3.0 out of 5 stars Good for short runs
I bought the NB 1063 to replace my Ascic GT 2100 which I loved. My initial impression of the 1063's was very favorable. They are very light weight and comfortable and seemed to have a lot of room in the toe area. For shorter runs, 6 miles or less, I am satisfied with the shoe. The problems I have are in longer runs. The shoes rub a raw spot under my right ankle during...

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect for people with orthotics, September 7, 2009
By
Another example of less is more. For years I wore NB top of the line running shoes figuring that's what gives the most support and therefore must be best for my feet. Except that I learned all that support was negating what my orthotics were supposed to do. These NB 1063's are neutral so they let the orthotics do the work and what a difference. So much more comfortable running...my feet don't hurt anymore.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing shoes for walking with my knee osteoarthritis, September 13, 2010

Finding an exercise shoe that is right for you can be one of the hardest things ever and sometimes seem impossible. I actually went thru a trial run with 8 different sneakers before ending up with this one. Of course what activity you shall be doing often matters with the type of exercise shoe you get but sometimes what is recommended will surprise you. The New Balance 1063 are a running shoe but I needed a shoe for walking. I have bad knee osteoarthritis as well as plantar fasciitis. I just finished physical therapy for knee trouble. I am 49, 6'1" and weigh 287. I started out at 315 but started walking for exercise. But due to walking incorrectly and having very old deteriorated footware I developed severe problems with my knees.

Good news is I am now back to walking but it has been over 2 weeks as I tried to find the correct footwear. I went with New Balance for almost all sites online as well as my physical therapist recommend New Balance for any person who has any physical issues. And surprise, surprise - yes, they make walking shoes but for extensive walking running shoes are recommended. And for knee osteoarthritis it is very important that a shoe be flexible, have cushioning and not be a stability shoe. Most walking shoes are very stiff. But I ended up here with the New Balance 1063 and they are a dream. They do have deep cushioning and it is a little high in the heel but if you are a power walker as I am you need it the same as a runner does.

I also have foot irritation and take a size 15D. These shoes have a very roomy toe box and an n-lock lacing system that keeps the shoes secure. When you get into the details of quality shoes you run into terms like underpronator, overpronator, neutral gait etc. It can get very confusing. And just because a shoe is recommended for your activity or condition does not mean it will work for you. It can vary person to person. The 1063s are made for neutral pronators to underpronators. I thought I was an overpronator but tried these for regular pronators and they are perfect. I have very fussy feet and some serious medical conditions. I walk an average of 3 miles a day at least so what I wear on my feet is of the utmost importance. The research is necessary and must be done. I am in no way settling with these running shoes. I thank New Balance for providing a running shoes that allows me to power walk with the utmost cushioning and comfort. They are very well made as well and the mesh allows your feet to always breath.

Bottom line is I am ready for the next step in improving my health with extensive power walking and these shoes make it possible. Highly recommend but remember, you must find the perfect pair for you. I can't see any neutral walker or runner finding fault with these though so feel confidence in giving them a shot. And if they help me so much with walking I can only imagine the cushioned dream they provide for the serious runner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Shoes!, August 15, 2010
I am on my third pair of these shoes! I love them! Once I found the right shoe for my body and feet I have not experienced any problem with shin splints since. I bought a pair of Asics that were supposed to be similar after my first pair but realized I'd made a mistake. At this point, I will never buy anything but New Balance for running.

4.0 out of 5 stars So far, so good, April 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
After 8 years of asics I had to switch to something else because asic doesn't make em like they used to. I have had these shoes for a month and put maybe 70 mi on them and so far they are great! The runs have been 3-9 mi and the shoes have yet to give me any cause for concern. The thing I love about them (compared to my asic cumulus) is that they are responsive. I am bout 6' 180 lbs so I need a rugged shoe that doesn't feel like I'm running on cardboard. The 1063 is also extremely breathable, which is refreshing.

cons: the only negative I have so far is that the back of the shoe rubs my achilles tendon and can be very uncomfortable. I just had to switch to 1/4" socks or those ones with the comfort flap on the back...no biggie.

I have owned these shoes for years. I like this model the best although I have also owned the 1064's. The 1063's are out of production so I bought these to have in reserve.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best shoes I have run in. Road huggers., January 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I tend to put a lot of miles into long runs and I have been thru a few pair of shoes. Each pair is different but I usually had some kind of sore on a toe or some part of my foot and I have even lost a few toe nails. This is usually due to some part of the shoe rubbing some part of your foot the wrong way. I had gotten used it and figured that was a natural side effect of running so many miles. It was easy to think that no shoe could fit your foot well enough to eliminate something from hurting.

Then I found a pair of these at a local shoe store when I wasn't really looking for running shoes. I have not had any issues with my feet since I started using these guys for my runs. The area they call the foot pan is really comfortable. Somehow it seems to fit firm yet does not constrain the foot which is the most frequent cause of foot issues for me. They have a more firm sole than many are used to but I am kind of liking being in touch with the road more. This might make them NOT such a good choice if you are trying to minimize the impact of running. But if you are an avid runner at any level, and like to get out and run until something else breaks besides your feet then you should give these puppies a try.

I am grateful I bought these shoes, and so are my knees and feet. I am glad the width accommodates my hobbit feet. I workout and run in these shoes and to date are the best shoes I have ever bought. Highly recommend these for runners and Hobbits taking a jaunt through the Shire.
