5.0 out of 5 stars very nice
This pail is very attractive. It blends right in on my counters and I have actually had several people ask me what it is for! The plastic insert is dishwasher-safe, which is a plus and it holds enough scraps for our family of three that we only need to take it out twice a week. Great product!

1.0 out of 5 stars It's pretty...and pretty useless
I'd venture to guess that anyone giving this product a 5-star review hasn't owned it for very long. I'd venture to guess that anyone giving this product a 5-star review hasn't owned it for very long. While it is beautiful to look at, and bamboo is one of Earth's most renewable natural resources, this pail is a waste of money. It is composed of narrow strips of bamboo glued together, meaning there are plenty of seams just waiting to burst. For my pail, that took about two months of light use. Suddenly, one of the seams separated, and it's extremely difficult to glue back together properly. Also, the plastic holding the charcoal filter against the bottom of the lid broke free after about two or three weeks, so every time I lift the lid, the filter falls out.

In this instance, bamboo is not the better choice. Do yourself a favor and buy stainless steel. What good is a renewable resource if it winds up in the landfill after minimal use?

1.0 out of 5 stars Nice looking but broke right away nothing worked but inner plastic pail, January 4, 2010

Liked the way this looked and so I bought it but within a short time the bamboo around the inner container split apart, the bamboo bottom separated and the top, as other reviewers have stated, comes apart and doesn't fit back together again.

In the end all that works is the inner plastic pail....worth a dollar - not $41.94 with tax. Great concept very poor execution. I asked for a refund in less than a year and the company refused. Don't buy this pail unless you want to end up with the inner plastic pail only.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greens the Kitchen!, December 24, 2008
This review is from: BAMBOO ecological COMPOST kitchen pail ORGANIC mulch NU (Kitchen)
Since ordering our compost pail, my husband & I find it to be nearly a game of how much we can recycle into our compost. Initially doubtful, my husband was afraid of the smell that a counterop keeper would entail. But this pail's aesthetics are very pleasing & the charcoal filter keeps the odors from permeating the air in our kitchen keeping the kitchen fresh. The container is large enough that we can go a few days w/o emptying it into our outdoor compost bin. & It makes us feel really good about what we're doing for the environment in lieu of throwing all our waste into the garbage to take up space in a landfill.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Worlds Best Self-destructing Compost Pot, March 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: BAMBOO ecological COMPOST kitchen pail ORGANIC mulch NU (Kitchen)
Hi ,
Do not waste your money and time on this product, you might as well just throw forty bucks in the compost pile. I have come to the conclusion that this (albeit beautiful-looking, and perhaps well-intentioned) compost pot was actually constructed to self-destruct upon use. The bamboo glue is the main culprit, but also of note is the flimsy plastic "bucket" insert that actually holds the compost. As someone who generally likes to spend their money once and put in a little upkeep maintenance if necessary, I gave this product two months of faithful use: the bamboo top split after two weeks, a week later the thin plastic container cracked along the entire side, two weeks after that the bamboo side split, and finally this evening I lifted the pot up and lo and behold the pot went up but its bamboo base remained on the counter. I'm going for stainless steel this time.
Good luck!

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed, June 27, 2009

I bought this for my kitchen and was initially pleased with it's appearance. I was soon greatly disappointed. The filter area wouldn't stay on the lid so I was trying to hold it together upon opening and closing. I was dealing with this then because of the lid issues it wasn't thoroughly closing. This resulted in a fruit fly infestation in my house. I am now keeping it in my garage so I can use it but not have bugs in my house, but this completely defeats the purpose of this purchase...

1.0 out of 5 stars Nice idea, poor execution, what a cheat!, June 11, 2011

Boy, I wish I'd read the reviews here before ordering!

We bought two at the same time.

They are very nice to look at.
But they are ridiculously poorly made.
The lid-plate that holds the charcoal filter began dropping out when the lid was picked up in the first week, and when we opened the second one, we found it had no handle.

Now that I have read the reviews, I'm really, really sorry to have bought them.

:(

2.0 out of 5 stars Trying to be eco-friendly, but it's not food friendly, April 7, 2011

I bought this because I wanted an aesthetically pleasing container for the food scraps we're required to put into our food and yard waste every week. For awhile, it seemed to work fine, but then it started falling apart, starting with the carbon filter top. Now the smell every time I open it is overwhelming. No amount of dishwasher cleaning will get out the gunk that's built the pail. I am ready to throw it out.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pretty but poor quality, May 31, 2009
This review is from: BAMBOO ecological COMPOST kitchen pail ORGANIC mulch NU (Kitchen)
I received the compost bucket and the outside of the lid was chipped off. I used it anyway to see if I liked it. I love the looks of it on the counter, but the inner side of the lid did not stay on well at all. I sent it back...not worth the money I paid for it!

At first, this is a beautiful product. The bamboo exterior is attractive and it doesn't look entirely out of place on a countertop. After a month or two of use though, everything starts to fall apart, literally.

First, the cheap plastic holding the filter onto the lid came undone. Every time we took the lid off, the filter and plastic holding it in place stayed on the bin. Next, the bamboo siding split from top to bottom. After that, the bamboo exterior fell apart so we just threw it away. Now, we just have the plastic interior bucket with the wooden lid on top sitting on our counter looking terrible.

After I write this review, I'll begin searching for a new compost bucket.

Don't waste your money on this.
