John Taylor was a Baptist preacher for many years. He traveled west with the pioneers that settled the Kentucky hills. He shares his experiences on the frontier in those rugged days from the American Revolution to the 1830's. He writes in the dialect of those times and deals with many of the issues that trouble us today. I had a great time reading this account. This is a book I'll read again and again.

Format: Hardcover
The biography of Pioneer Baptist preacher, John Taylor (1752-1835, Virginia-Kentucky) was superbly researched and written by Chester Raymond Young, the editor. His annotation of John's pithy, and sometimes rambling discourse, on his 10 Baptist Churches in the Bluegrass and Ohio R. region of early Kentucky, really helps one to understand the history of the pioneer settlers. By reading the biography first, one gains a much deeper appreciation of who the people and family members are, whom John Taylor mentions in his book. This is a treasure trove for both geneologists and students of religion.

Book only covered a few individual preachers, not Baptist preachers in general or the historical circumstances that drew them into the frontier.

This book was put together from my (3rd) Great Grandfather, John Taylor's original set of books. It was wonderful learning about his hardships, his passions and his friends and family. I am so glad that this book exists.
