Loaded the light with fresh batteries and turned it on. At full zoom the light was a square the shape of the LED. After a minute the light had dimmed down to a slight glow. Another round of fresh batteries and a dark room, same thing, very weak. Grabbed a Streamlight 27 lumen headlamp and compared. The 27 lumen light outshines the Barska 140 lumen. Returned.

I picked this up as a holiday lightning deal for my AR-15, and found it on arrival to be acceptable as a focusing flashlight, with a very uniform beam (which I appreciated), and am looking forward to taking it out in the field. The strobing function is a joke unless you plan on running a disco in the woods, need some special effects like an old film projector, or get on some super cop power trip. I'd be inclined to buy several more of these for around the house, but the product is overpriced when not on special, and right-priced when it is. The flashlight space is so crowded nowadays that there should be better competition.

That said, like many Chinese-made products, this one came with a part broken, which isn't a good omen in my book. The waterproofing gasket on the tailcap had a defect that caused it to be broken, and it fell off when I opened the light up to put in batteries. The gasket appeared to be uneven in construction and very thin, so methinks I'll go through a couple when changing batteries.

I wish these had been made in the USA, as the design appears basically good.

UPDATE: Barska's Customer Service has been an Epic FAIL in regards to addressing the broken gasket. I thought they'd get right on it and send a replacement, but the rep completely dropped the ball, and now won't respond at all. ALl over a cheap Chinese gasket. Can't recommend their stuff as a result. Star rating revised from 3 to 1.

I got this as a gift to replace some of the SureFire lights that had burnt out bulbs, etc. While it's not a SureFire, being able to use normal (aka not CR123 batteries) is a major plus. The other advantage over the SureFire is that the light does not heat up to the point of starting a fire as it's using LEDs rather than the Xenon bulb. I have a couple nylon belt holders with large melted holes from where the surefire (or generic surefire) turned on while on my belt and the next thing I noticed was a burning smell.

Pros: Good light at a good price, well built, uses AAA batteries

Cons: does not come with a belt holder, but rather a gun rail mount, The preset focus is for the short range and you cannot lock the focus adjustment to the range you want.

I saw this flashlight for a good price and thought that I would buy it for it's good description. Sure enough it's a nice light. Aluminum case is sturdy with a nice button and a good focus adjustment. The beam of light is excellent too. I like everything about this style of flashlight except the 3 AAA batteries that it runs on but I knew that when I bought it, it's the price that you pay for this nice size.

Not much to say so far about this flashlight as I haven't field tested it yet, but I can say that is feels well contructed. The housing is very solid and the "zoom" works, though it zooms into a square; I would have preferred a circle, but that's no biggie.

My AR doesn't have the rail on it I would like (I haven't ordered one yet), but I did try to mount it on the mini-quad that is currently on it. The problem is that the mount the light comes with is not very well made and would not secure tight enough. Even to get it to mount at all I had to remove the broomstick handle I had mounted. Once mounted it seemed secure at first, but when practicing in bringing the weapon up and turning it on, or turning it on and bringing the AR up for readiness the mount would wiggle a little and loosen. With the present mount I don't foresee this even staying on the rifle past one shot.

I will update this review once I install a rifle length free float and see if the mount holds tighter on a better rail. Also, the mount that this light comes with should not deter you from purchasing this light as weapons light mounts are super cheap and better mounts can be had for no more than $5.

The light itself is very bright and the on/off button seems quite reliable, you also have the option of installing a pressure switch, though that will have to be purchased seperate. Again, the housing is very solid and I believe this will be a durable light in the long run.

This flashlight is surprisingly small and lightweight, but it's very, very bright. You can also make the spotlight larger or smaller. It would especially be ideal to keep in your car in case of emergencies.

I got this light on a Flash Deal so I figured that even if the bad reviews were true I could still use it as an extra flashlight around the house. Thats exactly what it will be used for. Its not that bright, for comparison I have a cheap LED light from lowes and it is much brighter. As for the zoom, well thats just useless. The narrow beam projects a small square on the wall that is more distracting than useful. The quality of the materials is less than stellar, it just feels cheap. The biggest reason it doesnt work as a tactical light is that you cannot choose between low, high, and strobe; instead it just cycles through them each time you press the button. The included tactical mount is mostly a joke, its so cheap I wouldnt attach it to a 22.

UPDATE, So I have done some more comparison and it is now evident that brightness is not an issue, It is brighter than I had thought. The reason it still sucks is that you can not choose between bright, dim, and strobe. The more I thought about this the more I wondered why even have the strobe? I can't imagine meeting a bad guy in the hallway in the dark I squeeze my thumb and I get a low power light... "hold on MR. Bad Guy while I cycle through to my strobe..." I guess you could use the stobe to signal someone but if you want a strobe you can trust to momentarily disorient or incapacitate a bad guy just buy a streamlight.
