I've lived in Chicago and Atlanta and find the machine a good addition to block urban noise. My dog even seems to sleep sound under the "white noise" option. I primarily use the sound options but have a couple of complaints, although none would stop me from buying another machine. The first is the lack of more sound options. The other is the short cycle on some modes. For instance, on the "Summer Night" mode you can easily hear the program recycle, which quickly becomes annoying. The Aroma Spa is pleasant and adequate for small areas, such as bathrooms. Don't expect much in larger bedrooms. The aroma fan seems to drone and vibrate, overpowering the sound program at lower volume levels. Even with the complaints, I still believe that the Envira-Spa is the best on the market for the price.

I read some of the reviews, and I swear some people complain so much about tiny details! This machine is a wonderful little thing! Lets say if you work at night, and you have to sleep during the day, you can turn this on and it will drown out the noises of every day living. The aromatherapy is subtle- not too strong, yet strong enough. If you are trying to use it like a house freshener, don't- it's not going to work on the whole house! Some of the reviewers' noses must be stopped up because if you can't smell the aromatherapy beads, something is wrong. The scents are righteous! I think the sounds are pretty acurate as well. Very relaxing. It has volume control, and you can leave it on all night just by not choosing any of the time options. People were complaining about not being able to listen all night. Just don't light up any of the time options and it will stay on. Don't hesitate to buy this, you will love it, unless you like to complain about minor details.

I LOVE this machine! First of all, it is incredibly easy to use and there is NO mess...as there is with some other aromatherapy machines. Secondly, the sounds of nature are an added bonus...and make relaxing and sleeping a whole new experience! Finally, the price is INCREDIBLE for all you get- the machine with aromatherapy & relaxation sounds, the A/C adapter plug in, PLUS the 4 scent bead sensation set. You cannot beat that! I ordered my first machine for my daughter's bedroom, and for the first time, she woke up with clear nasal passages and a relaxed night of sleep. I quickly ordered three more machines- for our bedroom, the bathroom, and the kitchen/dining area!! I have tried other aromatherapy machines and none can compare to options, price, and quality of the Homedic EnviroSpa -Sound and Aromatherapy Machine!!

On some of sound options, it's easy to hear the track recycle itself; on the brook and summer night settings, I began to notice a pattern. It was very annoying and I couldn't fall asleep because I would always be anticipating the next sound in the pattern.

On the white noise setting and ocean, it's different. I haven't heard a pattern in either, and they help me sleep. I absolutely cannot sleep in complete silence. I think that since I bought it about a year ago I've been sleeping deeper and better.

The aromatherapy isn't bad either.

The idea sounded good, but the machine doesn't. First of all, the sounds are poorly done in that they repeat on a very short loop and do not sound natural, especially: brook and spring rain. The ocean is a recording of one wave that repeats with a drip at the end which is more annoying than relaxing. The white noise option sounds like a TV that has been left on while the station went off the air.

Secondly, the machine will only run for either 15, 30 or 60 minutes then shuts off automaticly. For someone who needs to have the noise run the entire time they sleep, this machine is useless.

Thirdly, the aroma option is noisy to run and drowns out the selected sounds. The basket where you put the aroma beads vibrates and rattles which is another annoyance when trying to fall asleep. The scent is barely detectable unless you have the machine right under your nose. I even tried soaking a pad with essential oil, that works better than the scent beads that comes with the machine.

I did give this two stars because if someone only wants the machine to run for 1 hour, and only wants to listen to white noise then this will work as long as you don't want the scent to go along with the noise. It does have volume adjustment, but I prefer just to leave the thing turned off. It was not expensive, but I do feel I wasted my money.

My suggestion is to get a CD of ocean waves or nature sounds instead and to soak a cotton ball in essential oil and place it in a dish. It would be cheaper and would work better.

I received this great little device as a gift. I found the sounds provided to be very relaxing and there is always one that fits my mood/need. I like the use of aroma therapy but was disappointed that when I turned on this feature the machine nearly drowned out the relaxing sounds. I found myself turning up the "peaceful" sounds to drown out the machine. Having a babbling brook going at top speed tends to sound more like a dam has broke then being relaxing. Now I tend to just use the sound part of the machine. If I want an aroma I will turn the machine on, using the timer, and leave my room. When I return my room is smelling nice and then I can relax to the sounds.

I ordered this after reading the reviews here on Amazon. I was truly disappointed at the quality of this product. The "sounds" sound like they are coming over a cell phone - a lot of static noise rather than sounding like nature. The scents are very mild and you need to be on top of the machine to smell anything. This is not my idea of an aromatherapy experience. Would not recommend this to anyone.

I got one of these as a gift over 5 years ago and it has been going strong ever since. We use it every night and take it with us when we travel. I even used while in labor to help relax me! We don't use the aromatherapy function very often, but it does do a pretty nice job of refreshing a room.
The best thing about it is that it seems to help induce sleep. Like the Pavlov dog effect. We know when it's on it's time to sleep and have gotten used to this. We hear the sound and react by falling asleep. When it's on--we're out! It's fabulous!

This is a nice way to keep a small room smelling pleasant, even if you don't subscribe to the whole aromatherapy thing. The sound generator is just marginal, with some sounds less than relaxing and the lack of a functional volume control a problem.
I think scented candles and an environmental CD that you like would be better, though as a package deal and at this price, it's not too shabby.

Everyone close to me has experienced the gift of relaxation since I discovered this spa. I bought this envira spa for myself. I loved it. My husband loved it so much, he took it. I bought another for myself. My daughter loved it so much, she took it. I bought another for myself. My son-- you guessed it, ran off with it! This time I bought another for myself, my best friend, and my mother, since those were the next two people I could forsee taking mine!! Now we all have one and love them. The sounds are soothing. The scent is soothing. The price is unbeatable for what you get. The negative reviewers are expecting too much from a machine. Any machine can only give a person manufactured sounds of nature, and this machine does it well. "Real" nature sounds can only be gotten in nature. The only way to get "real" ocean wave sounds are to live by the ocean. However, if you are like me and live in Iowa, nowhere near to an ocean, this machine will do very nicely! For the price, it does all it says it will and more! You won't be disappointed if you don't elevate your expectations above what a machine can actually do for you.
