A couple years ago I put an Alpine 9845 and a set of 4, 6.5 inch, Boston Acoustics speakers in my Dodge Dakota. It is a regular cab, small pickup truck so there isn't much room to improve the sound system. The system I installed sounded pretty good but lacked low end. At the time, there were no good sub woofer solutions that would fit in the cab and allow the seats to adjust to a comfortable position.
I found this unit on while looking to see if anything new was available and small enough. This and the Kenwood unit seemed like they would fit but this one is smaller with a larger driver. The very small housing will rob a lot of the bass volume produced by the 8" driver but an 8" will always produce a deeper bass than the 6.5" found in the Kenwood. The install was easy and typical. Run the power, ground, remote on signal and a pair of RCA's to the amp/sub combo. There are a good selection of controls on the unit to tailor the sound to your system. The remote gain is not needed unless you need it. My head unit has an adjustable output for sub signal so I tossed it out. A little bit of adjustment and I had it balanced nicely with the 6.5's. It has a little more power than I needed but not much. I wasn't looking for mind numbing bass. I listen to rock mainly and wanted something that would fill out the bottom end. It does add a nice kick and rumble you can feel. With the 45 watts x 4 channel output of the head unit, it works quite well with a little power to spare. It is a good unit if you are looking to balance the sound in the small cab of a Dodge Dakota. The sub/amp combo it is so small I could fit two more behind the seats. I only gave it 4 stars because the stated 600 Watts is a little deceptive if you don't know what you are buying.

best bang for the buck in powered subs,
This review is from: Boss Audio BASS600 8-Inch Low-Profile Amplified Subwoofer (Single) (Electronics)
Put one of these in a 1990 Corvette, I was amazed at how many features the Boss unit had, and how easy it was to install. That said, this was the perfect choice for me, sure I've had the serious 4-12" sub type setups in the past when I could still hear, and thats not what your going to get from this. If your looking to add some bass, and to fill out tones all the way down to 20Hz for just a great sounding system I would recommend this unit. I have had experience with other powered subs, this by far is the best for the price. You won't have the plunk sound from cranking the system up that you get from most units like this, my other speakers give out before this does. And yes I did say that this will get you response all the way down to 20Hz! Amazing performance from a package this size. my opinion is that Boss hit a home run with this one.

I ordered this sub after reading all the various reviews here and on the web. Most reviews were about the amp's performance and design. Item arrived well packaged, install was very easy (I've done more than thirty installs over the years), and I was nominally pleased with the sub's performance. Enough bass to fill out the low end of the range but not over the top trunk rattle.
Less than three months of ordering the amp began to fail, intermittently cutting out and popping back on. I checked all the wiring, used the troubleshooting chart to double check things. No change. The symptoms grew worse until the amp no longer worked at all. Dead. I looked for warranty info and Boss wants me to pay shipping to their repair facility. I can understand that however they also specify that I'm to include a $15 money order to cover shipping BACK to me. So that ends up being more than $25 out of pocket-- a full $25% of the original selling price-- to address a faulty product. Boo on Boss. With this illustrated lack of customer concern, I will never buy another Boss product and will dissuade anyone else from doing so as well. Boo on Boss!

After reading all the great reviews I thought this would be a perfect fit for my 2009 F-150 super cab. It fit perfect under the back seat. That was the only good thing I can say. The first unit I got worked for about 2 minutes then went into protect mode and shut down. After about an hour I tried it again and the green light came on but NO SOUND. I should mention that the installation was done by a friend of mine who installs audio equipment in car for a living. We checked everything and still no sound, so back to Amazon it went. I figured ok, every once in a while someone is going to get a bad unit. I notified Amazon and had a new one in 2 days( great service). So now I'm on my second one. We connected everything and it worked great. I was very happy with this unit and it did what I wanted it to. Three days later it totally quit. No protection light, no green light, no power, nothing. I had my friend check all the connections with a volt meter and everything showed 12 volts. So guess what? This one is going back and I won't be getting anything from Boss Audio again !!!!

Great Sound,

I have a 2001 Toyota Corolla, and space is very limited. I had reviewed sub woofers and powered sub woofers for months here on Amazon and other web sites.
In January 2009 I installed an aftermarket Sony stereo and Alpine speakers in car, but there was no low end sound. It was good, but not great. One day in May, while reading reviews here on Amazon, I decided to order the Boss Audio Bass600. I also ordered the wiring kit 2 for this model. Did the installation myself, which took 3 hours. It was my first sub woofer install. It went pretty smooth. Most of the time is spent hiding wires and hooking RCA cables to back of stereo. I put the sub under the front passenger seat of the car, and it fit with room to spare. Wiring kit 2 is made very cheap. I used it, and it worked, but I would not use it again. 8 gauge hot wire, is made with fine copper strands, and and is to light in my opinion. It comes with 18 gauge wire for the amplifier remote, but manual calls for 16 gauge. I used the speaker wire that comes with the sub woofer, and cut it in half. It is 16 gauge. Worked great. Turned the stereo on and WoW!!!!!!!!! Great deep bass. Just what it needed. I made different adjustments on the sub, and listened for a day at a time, before readjusting. Ended up with the gain at 1:00 O'Clock, bass boast set at 9:00 O'Clock, no subsonic volume, and low pass filter set at 12:00 O'Clock position, for more midrange. The sub balanced the sound very nicely. I listen to mostly low bit rate mp3's, (country and older rock), and some songs have more bass than others. I didn't want hard pounding bass, just good bottom end. That's what this sub gives. Rich sounding bass. It sounds very good, and I could not be happier. I wish I'd bought this years ago. If you have a smaller vehicle, or truck with limited space, buy one. You won't be disappointed.

I bought this product in hopes of rejuvenating my system in my 79 300D Mercedes Benz. If you own a similar type of vehicle, you'll understand that audio wasn't the most important feature on any vehicle back then. My speakers had great highs and mids, but could never obtain that "bump" that could round out the system all together.
On first receiving this package, you'll be dumbfounded on how shiny and sturdy this sub woofer really is. Weighing in around 9lbs, it can accommodate easily under the seat, or if that isn't an option, you can install it in the passenger floorboard area with plenty of legroom left over. And trust me, you'll think this thing is not capable of the power it really has, just wait. After installing it and finally testing it out... I WAS BLOWN AWAY!!! This had so much more power than I expected. It literally sounds like I have an entirely new sound system. Though there isn't enough bass to rattle your neighbors windows, you can easily achieve that "rumble" in your chest that resonates throughout the car easily. Before, I'd have to turn up the volume on the stereo to still be able to listen to music on the freeway, now I notice myself TURNING IT DOWN just so I can still listen to the outside world! Even the guys who installed it at a local chain were blown away. The guy had to literally bring in the audio crew and check out how good this TINY sub actually sounded! Even one of the guys asked if I had one of the "tester" subs installed... After listening to a range of indie music: iron & wine, sufjan stevens, fleet foxes, wilco, ugress, found sound orchestra and etc... & pop & hiphop, I couldn't be happier, it hits so 'clean' without distortion, even cranked up. The adjustable knobs to accentuate the sound definitely help out, so make sure you do listen to some of your favorite stuff and adjust until satisfied. Now for those who want to rattle their skulls numb, this probably won't do you any justice, but for those who want to bring the "home theater system" feel to your vehicle, this is ABSOLUTELY THE BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK, literally!

Great for the price!,
This review is from: Boss Audio BASS600 8-Inch Low-Profile Amplified Subwoofer (Single) (Electronics)
I own a 2002 Toyota Tacoma base cab and there is VERY LITTLE space in this truck. I wanted to find a subwoofer really small that came with an amp and box already built in. The Boss Audio Bass600 was perfect in meeting all my needs. It fits right under the driver's seat and sounds GREAT! The bass sounds loud with no distortion. I can literally feel the power of this sub underneath me as a drive. All my friends thought I had two ten-inch subwoofers when they sat in my truck. For its size, it sounds amazing. It will not set your neighbors' alarms off, but it definitely will give you some "boom." I highly recommend this product to people with small vehicles. For $100, this sub/amp cannot be beat.

Decent bass in a stealth package,

The Boss Audio BASS600 is a good solution for my pickup. It was a tight fit, but it fits under the seat and is hidden from view. I used to have a 10-inch sub-box behind my seat, but after my truck was broken into and my sub stolen, I wanted to try this stealth subwoofer.
It isn't as loud as a sub-box setup that you can hear 50-feet away from the vehicle. I don't need or want that kind of bass. I just need it to play loud inside my vehicle, and with its internal amp, the Boss compact sub suits my needs. It plays as loud as I need it to. Loud enough that you can't talk to a passenger when it's turned up, even if you yell. ;-) At first, I tried a JVC CS-BB2 compact subwoofer, but that had some dropoff at the lowest frequencies. You would expect to hear a low note in a song, but it just wasn't there. The BOSS subwoofer does produce all the low notes, but it's a little peaky. It doesn't have a flat response. That is, you might expect to hear a song with one real low note like, "low low LOOOOW." But that one real low note, you'll hear it, but it won't have the punch that you're expecting. All in all, if you want bass that's hidden from view, this is a winner.

I wasn't looking for anything to rattle the neighbors' windows down the street, but this little unit just lacked the reflex to really deliver bass even sitting on top of it. It did fit nicely under my driver's seat, and it did warm up the low end of the stock stereo in my 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder at low volumes. But it got distorted and rattled at the volumes I usually listen to music, especially with the windows or top down. 3" of woofer height just isn't enough to let that bass drum kick.
