5.0 out of 5 stars This is what you didn't learn in school....., May 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The BATTLE FOR SAIGON (Hardcover)
Mr. Nolan is an incredible and invaluable cronicler of the Vietnam War. My father was at the Ton Son Nhut Airbase during the Tet. I now truly understand that battle; this is what you didn't learn in school. Since I read The Battle Of Saigon I have gone on to read The Magnificent Bastards and am in the proocess of reading Operation Buffalo. I strongly recomend reading Keith Nolan's books so you can learn what really happened in Vietnam. The Battle of Saigon is a must read. With respect, Kimberly E. Monahan

5.0 out of 5 stars Personal experience in Widow's Village, April 13, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: The BATTLE FOR SAIGON (Hardcover)
I was a member of the first platoon, Bravo company, 2/47th Infantry of the 9th Infantry Division. I participated in the battle of Widow's Village under the command of Lt. Jezik. Our platoon of 22 men was the first unit of troopers to meet the battalion of VC/NVA. Nolan's account of that battle is fairly accurate and as they say, "on the money." It makes me proud that we are finally recognized even if it is close to 30 years. The 2/47th took part in some very tough battles in '68 and I am proud to have been part of it

5.0 out of 5 stars Should be read by all small-unit leaders, November 20, 2005

This book gives an excellent tactical description of the fighting in and around Saigon during Tet. While many, many other books give a larger strategic sense to the whole Offensive, this book is very specific and useful to understanding what happened in SVN's capital. This book has another strength, too, in that its accounts of small-unit leaders in combat provide great lessons for future junior military leaders--especially for company command level and below. The one big drawback is that it has no tactical maps, just one big map of Saigon at the beginning of the book. Detailed maps would have been a great help while trying to decipher the textual descriptions of the fight. The author should take note of this for future revisions of this book.
