This classic two-person game is easy to play and teaches strategy and critical thinking skills. This version is much like the original i.e. hard plastic cases. Some of the newer versions are all cardboard and difficult for opposing players to maneuver the game board.

We bought a version of battleship that was unlike this one. It didn't resemble the classic two person game. rather it was cheaply made, played on a single board (prob to save the manufacturer money) and the pegs and shipS fell out all the time.

This toy is more like the classic, is well made, and is fun to play. I'm happy with this game.

My family loves this game, but this particular model is made so cheaply that the pieces fall out of the holes so easily, which makes the game unplayable. And the plastic broke after about two uses.

This version is awful for many reasons:
The flip top is very heavy causing you to have to hold it so that it doesn't fall over while you play
The pin bins are very small and can't really hold all the pins between the two players
The plastic is VERY thin and feels cheap
The classic version has five pin holes at the top to show how many ships of your opponent you have sunk, this version does not
The bottom is very thin and you can knock out your ships from underneath
Do not get this version.

I always loved battleship as a kid and now my kids do too. At first I was disappointed that there wasn't a fancy electronic version available. But then we got it home and I realized that its simplicity is why it's so easy to learn and so available to younger kids. They have enough flashing lights in their world, this is just real thinking fun. It's always a winner!

Thanks for keeping the classic styles around. Hate when they 'redo' things to fit a new movie. Especially when it's a really bad one that little kids ought not to see. That said, my 6 and 9 year olds love playing. That's why the old styles are so great. Simple fun, no batteries or electricity. Love it.

I ordered the basic Battleship game with no bells and whistles because it's what I had when I was a kid. I was looking forward teaching my teenage son how to play Christmas night. When never got to play. One of the clear plasic grids that comes in a player's case was missing.
