The filter was a little harder to fit into the plastic frame than I had thought. This is the first time I have replaced it however, so it will probably get easier.

This is the exact same filter my Trane dealer installed when I got my new heating/cooling system. Easy to install.

I have no problem with the filter medium. It works great. I did not expect to have to assemble it into my existing filter frame. That was still no big deal. The problem was that the number of accordian folds in the filter did not match the filter frame that I had although they are both "Trane" and matching part numbers. I just doubled some of the folds. The other problem is that the plastic clip which holds the filter medium in place on the filter frame did not match up exactly with the filter paper frame which should have some kind of metal reinforcement. This part of the design and the directions for assembly could be improved even if it added a little cost. It was still much cheaper than buying it locally from a HVAC dealer. I am about to buy them again and may have a beer or two before I begin the assembly process.

I was worried when I read other reviews that it would be difficult to insert into the plastic holder, but it wasn't very difficult at all. The directions were not super user friendly, so I would suggest looking at the old one before you take it apart and put in the new one to make sure you do it correctly. I still think it is kind of expensive for a filter, though.

Item perfect, was a little surprised when it came in a small skinny box, we thought we had ordered the wrong thing, but when we opened it realized that it expanded out.

Be sure to look at the old filter and see how it is mounted in the plastic frame before removing it. The two cardboard ends of the filter look similar, but there are definite differences. You need to make sure you mount it correctly in the plastic frame or it will be very difficult to close the tabs on the frame.

Fairly easy to install. One needs to punch a couple of new holes through the cardboard frame. Took about 15 minutes.

They seem to work fine and buying them via Amazon and the Internet makes the replacement project very fast and easy.

This is a whole house filter rather than a filter for every intake, so it's bigger than the normal filter (which is good). Most filters today are some form of accordian-style so they cover more area and therefore trap more dust particles. I had my Trane/American Standard system installed about 7 years ago with this whole house filter, and these filters have cut down on the dust tremendously. Yes, it is tedious to replace - try doing it hunched over in your attic when it's 100 degrees outside! But after doing this for several years now, it only takes me 5 minutes. For some strange reason, the filter is a little larger than the frame that came with my HVAC system, so I have extra folds in the filter. Because we run our system so much here in Houston, I find I have to change my filter more often than usual. However, considering I have 3 intakes, I was spending the same amount to change out 3 filters compared to this 1.

The filter is a bargain over getting an HVAC contractor to install for ridiculous rates. This filter was not the easiest to install but after a few failed attempts everything aligned and it was installed and working perfectly.
