Exceeded expectations, December 6, 2008
This review is from: BBC Radio Theatre: London June 27, 2000 (Audio CD)
A few of these performances from this BBC Radio Theatre concert have been posted on YouTube, and honestly I was not terribly impressed by those uploaded songs. Did I really want a live version of "Absolute Beginners" which sounded so similar to the original?
Thankfully, I took the plunge and ordered a used copy at a reasonable price. The cd was well worth its purchase price. Bowie's Reality Tour DVD has similar -- though slightly different -- versions of several of these songs, but this BBC Theatre recording of "Always Crashing in the Same Car" displays his later interpretation of this classic, an interpretation not available in any other commercially available cd or dvd, as far as I am aware.
Also worth noting is the BBC Theatre album's version of "Cracked Actor." It's refreshing to hear this dark song sung with strong female backup vocalists. On the whole, the performances offer some new twists to some familiar songs, and Bowie is in top form when delivering the lead lyrics.
I find myself reaching for this album over and over again.

An Excellent Bowie Performance, September 1, 2008
This review is from: BBC Radio Theatre: London June 27, 2000 (Audio CD)
This June 2000 concert remains an impressive overview of David Bowie's career - sparked by memorable versions of "Wild Is the Wind," "Ashes to Ashes" and "Seven." The reinvented "Let's Dance" makes for a stunning finish. Available only as a bonus disc on "Bowie at the Beeb," the 69-minute "BBC Radio Theatre" should be released as a separate entity. More satisfying than "David Live" and "Stage."

Truly the Best of Bowie, July 1, 2010
This review is from: BBC Radio Theatre: London June 27, 2000 (Audio CD)
Unlike the other Bowie compilation albums and live performance which are either just average or poorly curated, this one really delivers.
I saw the original concert of this on television on June 27 2000 and was blown away. The reinterpretations he does on several songs are as good as the classic originals. And Bowie is in stunning voice for the whole show. A must hear....and buy.
