Biography

It's up for debate whether the title of best British Invasion band never to really make it stateside belongs to the Zombies or the Small Faces, but Steve Marriott, Ronnie Lane, Kenney Jones, and Jimmy Winston (later replaced by Ian McLagan)--whose band name combines a reference to their short stature with Mod slang for "trendsetter"--certainly enjoy a critical reputation and lasting influence far… Read more in Amazon's The Small Faces Store

Stunning! Marriot never sounded so powerful. Mac's keyboards are clean and clear and Ronnie and Kenney are tight and the recording is impeccable . Amazing version of Lazy Sunday.

5.0 out of 5 stars A glimpse into the secret history of the Small Faces, December 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The BBC Sessions 1965-1968 (Audio CD)
This disc gathers BBC performances from 1965 to 1968 in exceptional sound quality. Singer-guitarist Steve Marriott is easily the finest British soul vocalist ever. The band's Hammond organ-fueled/guitar-stoked classics embrace a number of musical styles, from pop to r&b to psychedelia to music hall(!), and the musicianship is first rate. Included is The Small Faces take on Muddy Water's "You Need Love" which Led Zeppelin later rechristened as "Whole Lotta Love". Also, the disc features two numbers never officially released, "Jump Back" and "Every Little Bit Hurts". One quibble, however: interviews conducted during the sessions are edited out of the musical context and placed at the end of the disc, which creates a somewhat disjointed effect. All in all, a fine collection from one of the most superb groups of the sixties, and an essential purchase for any fan of the mod era.
