A Cheesy Rip-Off DVD from Janie Hendrix,

Like many, I've just bought "BBC Sessions" again for the bonus DVD, after the hype build-up led us to believe that the DVD would include Hendrix's 3-song T.V. performance from the Lulu Show, but all we get are brief snippets, interrupted by interviews with BBC D.J.'s.....so the 3-song performance will continue to appear on bootleg DVD's.
And the closing credits, which thank Experience Hendrix's previous label distributor(MCA) suggest that this piece of crap video program has been sitting on the shelf(and with good reason) for a few years. If you've got the previous 2-CD edition of "BBC Sessions", stick with it. The bonus audio track on the new edition is a soundtrack from a T.V. appearance where Hendrix sang live over the backing track from the studio version of "Burning of The Midnight Lamp". Hardly essential. Janie Hendrix would sell ice in the winter if she could get away with it. She owes the public an apology for the worthless, disappointing DVD included with this 2-CD set.

I preordered this deluxe edition and was very excited to finally have the Lulu performance on video from an official release. What a disappointment to find that the footage is chopped up with interviews mixed in. That would be fine if I also had the option to see the complete performance uninterrupted. The complete performance is less than 10 minutes long and would easily fit on the dvd. Guess I'll have to keep my "bootleg" version. Since the complete performance is not on this deluxe version, chances are it will never be released. This would have been the perfect place for it.

With All the millions of dollars and marketeering and sheer vomit-pulling greed
fueling the Hendrix Machine, one would hope that at least occassionally the ESTATE held and lorded by Christian-Censor and Pig-Head Janie, and the Supreme Collector-Scum John McDermont (a hold over from the anal-retentive August Angerame Empire taking white-hot delight in waving around unreleased material then hoarding it endlessly) could for at least once get the mixes right, release what JIMI's FANS WANT, at least once a year. New Versions? Balenced Midrange? Uncut Jams? Forget it. It's another glittering scam, and of course there is no excuse for cutting up Jimi's LULU video performance with talk talk talk: Jimi would hate that. Yep I know. So do about 3 million fatally angry fans, but so much for "market-demand" and cherished democracy when you can have slime-slippin,' moralizing-sippin' BLOB-ocracy & a woman who has no possible, natural right to decide one thing about her (half-)brother's truly sacred music. "Too Bad Our Brother Can't Be With US Today." Long live the Jimi Key-Chain, Coffee-Mug, Carpet, Jock Strap----you vile hucksters. What happened to Scotland Yard's look into what any doctor knows to be a murder? Make yrselves useful. But those new to Jimi must buy this as it DOES contain some of his best "live-in-studio" work and proves his supremacy as early as 1967 over ever musician ever to live. Will Eric Clapton PLEASE PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT ALL THIS?

As stated in the other reviews, I also owned the previous BBC release and ONLY bought this for a perfect complete copy of the LuLu show. I was stunned and angry when almost immediately into VooDoo Child did some guy Id never heard of, began to talk over the song. This also happened during Hey Joe/Sunshine. Very maddening!!

I already had this CD set from the previous release, I also have the RYKO DISC issue from the 1980s.
The ONLY reason I ordered this CD re-re-issue was because it stated that there was a complete performance of Jimi at the Lulu show from 1969. Having finally receiving this this week I was so angry to find that the DVD contains a 25 min documentry about Jimi at the BBC with a few minutes of his performance only. The bonus track included on CD2 is the worst sounding track on the set and this track also is not 100% live. There is nothing new in the booklet apart from the info on the bonus track. Overall if you already have this as most Jimi Hendrix fans would, don't consider buying this unless your happy to watch a DVD that runs 25 min and won't be watched again.

Oh, mama! Ever wonder what Hendrix would sound like if he played in your favorite joint some weekend? Well, you might want to pick up this baby then.Back in the day, the BBC used to bring in various bands and musicians into small, intimate studios they had in various locations and record them in a LIVE broadcast. There was no 'studio sweetening' involved in this process at all, but it did have the traditional attention to detail and engineering and production quality that are hallmarks of most BBC A/V recordings of the 1960s especially. Here is Jimi Hendrix ascendant and captured at the height of his powers. Not every cut is my cup of tea, but I'll let you decide what you like and don't like. I'm betting there's a lot more here to like than dislike however. It provides some insights into Hendrix' personal make-up as well in the interview segments they provide. If you loved Jimi Hendrix and his music, you will surely love these examples of his work. The sound quality here is top notch and it feels like you're close to the source. Very good stuff indeed.

Finally a very good Remastered version of the BBC sessions,
By
This review is from: BBC Sessions (2 CD/ 1 DVD Deluxe Edition) (Audio CD)
Yes, this edition( 2010 remaster) sounds relly good, I had the previous edition (1998) and the sound felt like a very old recording, no dynamic range, hiss, and low fidelity, this new version really shines when compared with the previous version, Volumen and dynamic range are excellent, equalization is really good, the bass sound really good and Jimi's voice is excellent the same to his guitar and Mitch's drums. even the last tracks on CD2 from the Lulu's TV show sound very good. I love Live recording and this one was one that I wanted to sound great and now it is.
The DVD, who cares? is the music in these 2 Cds what really matters. If you own the previos version, like I did, it is worhwhile to purchase this one, this new version show how The Experience really sounded at that time, all the songs have a different ( and nice ) flavor, that the studio versions don't,, if you are a hendrix fam like I am you should get this album with no hesitation.

Hendrix must be the only artist in the world whose discography postmortem (more than FIFTY) surpasses ten to one his discography while alive (just FIVE)!
Since the 90s I don't buy nothing more with the name "Jimi Hendrix", because I'm pretty sure I have it. |
