Great deal for the $$,

This review is from: BBE MAX-X3 2 Way Stereo or 3 Way Mono Crossover with Full Featured Sonic Maximizer (Electronics)
Im using this with a MAckie 808S head with a mod to the board so I can route the preamp signals out thru effects b4 entering the power section. I ran this in MONO mode and broke out the sub signal to some amps and bass bins-then the regular signal back into the 808. It worked GREAT!
for the price its a steal, the Sonic Maximizer portion is good for the main mix but almost not noticable in the lows which is fine. I reccomend this for outside the studio in live situations-not sure how the noise is in a studio situation as the maximizers tend to have a noisegate to release on a note then you hear the hiss-not noticeable in a live mix though.

This was purchased to be used as a reliable analog stereo crossover in live applications. I use this to seperate the subwoofer signals from the top signals before I connect to 2 amplifiers in stereo.
If you didn't know, BBE produces various pro-audio components, but in almost all of them they add an insert for their 'BBE sound maximising DSP.' If you buy anything, including this, you generally also get the option of their BBE processing which has the most dramatic effect on sounds/music 4khz and up. You may be familiar with the effect it has if your television has a BBE chip in it (including some Sony, JVC, Panasonic...) Even if you don't need that effect, this is a pretty stout 2/3 crossover, imo. Thick faceplate, chunky knobs...Mine is red, but they're made with black plates now. Been using on the road for about 3 years now, no problems. |
