Product Description

Do you occasionally need a DSLR camera bag, but don't want to spend $100 on a dedicated one? The DSLR Camera Paddy is for you. We designed this padded camera compartment to slip right into the main compartments of the Hauler Hybrid, Hamptons Hybrid or Industries High-Back Messenger. It easily converts one of our laptop bags into a full blown DSLR camera bag without spending a small fortune. Sorry, doesn't quite fit into our Expandit Messenger. Available in Orange, Blue, and Olive colors.

Padding is adequate and looks to be well built.

I bought this insert because I don't want to have an obvious camera bag while travelling, so I wanted to carry my DSLR in my own bag, SAFELY!!

I was even able to pack a small pouch of accessories on top of the insert once that insert's flap was closed over the top.

I went looking for something nice to protect my camera gear. I found the typical camera bags out there to be just ugly and very very expensive. Then I stumbled upon the Tenba Removable Photo Insert. If you are reading this review, you probably have already seen the Tenba model. I was amazed at the price point and that I could possibly fit it into my Timbuk2 Medium Messenger bag.

I found pictures on flickr: [...] and it looked like a nice setup. Discrete and still good looking.

Now it was a very good thing that when I was about to pull the gun, the Tenba was all sold out. Amazon, BH, etc, even Tenba's own website was out of stock. FYI, the newer version of the Tenba insert does not have the flaps. So I went looking again. Found the Domke inserts which were not very appealing.

Then I found this item on amazon and was sold. No review, no problem. Same price, same size, better features. It was exactly the same as the Tenba one in the flickr pictures, WITH the inner flaps so that if you have a huge camera, and store it in the middle, the flaps help prevent the weight of the camera from crushing and deforming the other vertical paddings.

I was able to fit a whole bunch of stuff in there on my recent trip. The trip I actually bought it for. I kept a Canon XSi DSLR with kit zoom lens, a m4/3 GF1 camera w/ 20mm lens, the 14-45mm lens, and the 14-140mm lens. Plus I fit my remote wireless timer, cables, chargers, and LVF. And a Logitech mouse and iPod 60GB on top left and right sides. All that and the flap that closes it all still closed as it should without a bump. It was like a protective yellow brick. But it is not heavy like a brick. The flap also has webbing divided into 5 for storing 3 SD cards (or more if you double up) with case and 2 filters.

Based on other Amazon reviews, I bought this insert hoping it would fit in one of my messenger bags. Bingo! Works like a charm and enough space for my SLR, a couple of lenses, flash, batteries, memories, and charger. This works well for me when I go on tours or day trips. If I need to travel, I just load up my camera backpack, collapse and fold this insert in my luggage, and I'm off. No need to buy an expensive pack or messenger bag just for photography stuff. It is well made and the folding top is an added plus for storing all those small things that seem to get lost. Not a brand name, but a hidden bargain gem waiting to be found.

I bought this insert because I don't want to have an obvious camera bag while travelling, so I wanted to carry my DSLR in my own bag, SAFELY!! This is exactly what I was looking for, its padded really well on all sides including the bottom. It fits my Canon 50D with long lense attached perfectly along with my smaller camera and an extra lense. The top flap is great to keep them all protected. I just love it, I ordered another one today to carry my other lenses and extra bits and pieces. One can sit on top of the other and the second one will keep everyting together in one place while Im travelling! I love it and it's great value. It shipped right away too so I was happy with that.

If you are like me you either have the a bag already and it is everything you need except for carrying your camera gear safely, or do not want to spend the extra money for a camera bag ($100-$300). Both of those are why I purchased this insert. I own a D90 Nikon D90 12.3MP DX-Format CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3.0-Inch LCD (Body Only), 28-70mm nikon Nikon 28-70mm f/2.8D ED-IF AF-S Zoom Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras (big lens), Tokina 11-16mmTokina 11-16mm f/2.8 Pro DX Digital Zoom Lens - Nikon (small lens, a couple accessories (lens caps, two filters, extra battery, card reader, two microfiber towels), and a small point a shoot Nikon AW100 underwater camera Nikon COOLPIX AW100 16 MP CMOS Waterproof Digital Camera with GPS and Full HD 1080p Video (Orange). All of these fit in with no problem.

The Build Quality:
- Initially the material reminded me of military back packs I have had that stood the tests of time and even Afghanistan. Moreover, this is an insert so I wouldn't worry about the material ripping or tearing. The stitches are strong: I was testing the strength and pulled on some of the weaker parts with 20-30lbs of force but nothing tore.

I bought this insert because I'm starting a new job next year that involves me doing a lot of traveling. While I'm traveling, I'll need my dslr camera and lens and kit. But since most camera bags are just specifically for the camera and accessories, and don't leave room for anything else, I decided to use the BBP Camera Insert in my regular backpack. I got it today, and my overall impression is good but not great.

The concept is great, because it allows you to take a backpack or messenger bag and organize your camera elements and accessories. However, I feel there could be several improvements. For starters, aside from the thick foam padding in the walls of the bag, there isn't any other material that really keeps the structure of the insert. I think I'm going to get some 1/4" Plastic paneling to insert into the walls to reinforce it.

The other issue is that there's no way to really close the top flap. I'm afraid that if somehow my bag gets jostled around and turned upside down, that my stuff could fall out. Perhaps a future build of this could include two simple velcro straps at the top.

Other than that, I like the velcro inside of it, and the customizable padding to make a lot of different options for bag setup. I'll be taking a vacation to Boston next weekend, so we'll see how it holds up for a few days of traveling and all.
