The BBS construction kit; well written and informative., November 22, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The BBS Construction Kit: All the Software and Expert Advice You Need to Start Your Own BBS Today (Paperback)
The BBS construction kit by David Wolfe is an extremely well written book that describes the process of choosing and configuring BBS software. David explains the pros and the cons of various BBS engines while pushing the GAP BBS software. Though the book itself is quite out of date, it does describe basic modem commands and the legal ramifications involved when running a public system. David Wolfe explains how to use THEDRAW (an ANSI drawing program) and explains RIP protocols. Even though book is centered on GAP, the menu explanations and file manipulation explanations apply to BBS software in general. My copy (I am not sure about Amazon's stock) came with a 3.5" floppy that included Gap BBS software, THEDRAW, and old file utilities. I recommend this book because it is not only well written, but makes out to be an excellent reference source, to those who are new and old to BBSs. (His second book "Expanding your BBS" is even better and comes with a CD-ROM chock full of BBS utilities!)
