I would recommend to all diabetics using injectables.

We use a Sharps storage container to hold used syringes which actually still contain a very tiny piece of the needle.

Work perfect if you travel and don't want to be carrying around a big sharps container.

I bought two of these about a year ago and have only needed to use the first one - it probably has room for another year in it. While it's essential for travel, I use it daily for two reasons: if you snip the needle tip on a syringe or pen tip, you can throw away everything that is not the actual syringe tip (cap, inner cap, paper)anywhere, like your office trash. I still dispose of the actual syringe and pen tip more discretely.

Second, and it took me a while to discover this, after you snip the tip, you can move the needle head a bit to the side and press it against the metal on the side of the snipper. This pushes the tiny bit of needle that remains back into the syringe, so the tip is literally smooth and completely safe. Otherwise, there's a very small barb remaining. Once smooth, I can safely drop it in a pocket or bag to throw later.

This snip is such a simple thing, and yet it's been a great discovery.

The last time I traveled I took with me a small white plastic case (that I've reviewed) to drop pen needles into. (The case is actually for storing used syringes.) Although it was smaller than the standard red B-D sharps disposal case you could still stick yourself putting the pen needle into it because the needle cover wouldn't fit-you were stuck with unscrewing the needle and fitting it into the box's opening.

I now have this little jewel. It snips off the needle quickly and easily. Leaves a miniscule stub, maybe 1/64". Put the cap back on and you can toss what's left of the pen needle. Meanwhile the sharp end sits inside the disposable clipper. Very nice. Fits in a pocket - 3.5" long, 3/4" thick at its thickest point, and 1" wide. Very nice. Easy to use.

Added note: I should have mentioned the name of the plastic case I put the used pen needles in. It's the Medport on the Go Sharps Diabetic Supply Transport/disposal. Holds about 60 pen needles that have been clipped. Quite convenient.

If there is a need, someone will invent a product to fulfill it. No longer do I have to set the pen needle down on the sink and then pick it back up to put it in a sharps container, all the while risking being stuck. My wife and I are going on a cruise in the near future and this is going to take up far less space in my luggage than the container. I highly recommend this to anyone who uses syringes and needles. It produces a needle stub that can be safely handled and disposed of in any trash can and keeps the dangerous part in the handle of the clipper. The price was a big plus too.

Update: Nearly two years after purchasing this item, it finally filled up. I inject insulin once a day so it holds at least six or seven hundred needles. I quickly ordered a replacement which just arrived. Again, I highly recommend this as vastly superior to the standard sharps container.

My nurse showed me this in injection training. I couldn't wait to get one. It's so much better than having to worry about storing old needles!

I am familiar with BD Products and ordered this item because I could not find it in any drugstore. It is not legal to dispose of sharps in the garbage unless they are in an approved container. Trying to dispose of syringes in this type of container could be costly. Being able to remove the sharp from the syringe makes it possible to dispose of the syringes in a safe and legal manner.

This safe-clip needle clipping storage device is awesome. Extremely easy to use and eliminates any fear of being stuck by the used syringe. It allows me to dispose of my needle-free syringes more easily, storing the actual needle for appropriate disposal.

I used the old Sharp's container and didn't know this existed until a nurse recommended it. It's compact, convenient, inexpensive, and holds a multitude of needles. Great product!
