Our authentic V-TONE modeling technology recreates three of the most sought-after classic guitar amps, with three gain modes and three mic placements for a total of 27 possible configurations. You get a truckload of great amps in one convenient stomp box, allowing you to go from clean or crunch to super-fat distortion in a flash.

Extremely User-Friendly

Operation is simple; just choose the type of amp, from the smooth Calif (Californian), the bright, punchy TWED (Tweed), or the BRIT (British) with its incredible sustain and aggressive mids. Then select the gain mode, CLN (clean), HOT or HI G (high gain). Lastly, choose the mic placement from the three available selections. This feature is a BEHRINGER exclusive, allowing you to place the "virtual mic" in any of three positions:

(OFF X) - At the edge of the speaker cone, producing a smoother, softer sound with less midrange content
(CNTR) - Positioned at the center of the cone, for more upper mids and beefy low-end
(CLSIC) - Slightly in front of the cabinet, for high midrange content with tons of definition

It's a Tone Thing

We've also included a dedicated Drive control, for adjusting the amount of gain. This control effectively mimics the amount of push applied to the output stage of a tube amplifier, from a gentle nudge to full-out, tube-melting overdrive. Further tone shaping is provided by a highly musical 2-band EQ.

Versatility

The GDI21 can be used for direct recording output, with speaker simulation or, when used in bypass mode, as a superb active DI box. A 1/4" output jack is provided for connecting to your amp and the gold-plated, balanced XLR connector will link you cleanly to the front of house console. Ground loop problems are nonexistent, thanks to the onboard ground lift switch.

Value

Whether you use it on the stage or for recording, the BEHRINGER V-Tone Guitar GDI21 is the ultimate choice for musicians seeking an extremely versatile array of time-tested, classic tones. With the GDI21, you get the sound of three classic guitar amps and a superb DI box, all for the price of a single stomp box! Try one at your local BEHRINGER dealer today.

When i bought it, i needed a preamp but it is more than a preamp, it is a very complete box. You can use like a guitar modeler with several sound options when changing the positions of the switches in the front panel (drive, treble, bass and level controls and amp, mod and mic switches, i dont use the ground switch) and create several sounds like Jazz, distortion, clean, rock, metal, blues. You can activate the effects with the foot switch that is the weak element of the box, it feels fragile. If you use the box like a recording box, connect it with a XLR female cable to a mixing console or a computer. When you need a preamp or effects pedal it is a suitable selection. I think that it is best for recording rather than a gig because of the foot switch.

I use this as a pre-amp to plug my guitar into garage band on my mac. I tend to keep the settings pretty neutral and use the effects in garage band. I like the price and the fact that I can use to jam through a PA if so desired. I think the effects will be more useful in that setting. I recommend getting the power adapter too, it drains batteries when not in use for long periods, so if you are an intermittent player like myself you end up having to take the battery out after each time you use it, which is a real pain.

I have a Behringer TM300, and the GDI21 sounds exactly like it. I use the Tweed amp setting, clean, with mic set to Classic, and with the other controls( drive, treble, bass, and level) set the same as on the TM300, the two are almost indistinguishable with only the slight difference that the GDI21 has a cleaner sound. I have yet to try recording directly into my digital recorder with it, but as I read in another very helpful review, this stomp box should be cleaner( less background hiss) than the TM300.
One noticeable difference is the battery compartment on the GDI21 is MUCH easier to access than on the TM300, where you have to remove the pedal from those spring-loaded pins. The other notable advantage of the GDI21 is that it acts like a signal splitter, so that the same input signal goes via a 1/4" phone jack to my amp, and there is another balanced XLR connector available that sends the input signal to the PA.
Now I have 2 of the same thing pretty much, I like redundancy at a gig so that I always have a backup. I like this box so much, I'm not going to bother with the Sansamp GT2.

This is my first analog distortion pedal and I think its great. Don't be sad if it doesn't work when you get it... just send it back in for free and get a new one- That's what I did!

For some more settings on this, search the internet for the "SansAmp GT2 Unofficial Homepage" to get some additional settings to tweak the sound. This box works basically just like the SansAmp, so the settings will work with this as well, though note that settings are in a different order than what you'll find, so adjust your settings accordingly.

Works quite well as a direct box for going into the church sound system without any extra buzz, so I haven't had to use the ground lift switch. Going to the official Behringer website will give you a small selection of sound samples, and there's the obvious to search YouTube to see what it sounds like.

I don't play electric guitar professionally, so this works well enough for not owning a guitar amp as long as you have somewhere to output like a computer (even if you're just going through the microphone in) or a PA system.

I would highly recommend finding some example settings to test out the amp modeler, as it is fairly easy to get some overly-distorted sounds (unless that's what you're going for).

This thing is frickin awesome!!! It's got a few amp modules on it, but the really cool feature is the ability to change the mic placement on your virtual amp!! You can place it close, far, to the sides, and it emulates really well. These are good amp sounds. I have this AND a V-Amp3 and I still use this one for certain sounds. It lives up to the behringer name pretty well. and it's inexpensive, so if you're on the fence just get it and give it a try, if you don't like it send it back within the 30 days or whatever!!

I am not a expert on these but from what I know this is a nice deal for the price. Lots of different choices and good directions. Preamp will give you a nice boost as well. Can connect to a mixer and connect to a interface for your computer as well. A preamp a effects pedal a DI (connect to mixer) that is sturdy and works fairly decent*****! Recommend getting the dc power supply at the same time.

I plug this into the clean channel of a Peavey. It only has channel pots, so there is no gain control on my amp. So this gives me something additional from the start. I'm sure it can't take a 4x12 cabinet falling on it. but it's built well enough short of that. I've not yet run it into a board to hear the cabinet simulation. I had a "Tubeman" and a live tube will better this. But I like this better than my Tube Screamer, or my favorite Boss Overdrive. As far as the modeling, can't compare it as I only have 1 little amp. I found the Tweed setting to be very low level. It's not like the clean channel has any level, and even the gain turned up doesn't bring you as much as the Brit or California settings. I wish the levels were a little more equal. If you set your volume in Tweed, and then go to the others, you'll blow your hair back. Maybe that is what they wanted to do to impress us with Overdrive. but I can't think they were that assuming. I am really bothered by the low level of that Tweed. I'm still thinking of buying the American box they make as that way I might get better level and all of that full Fender amp sound.
Okay, that's what I consider the down side.
It has great sensitivity, a good fry tone to either the Brit or California settings, and it's very versatile within either of those two. The tone controls are wide range enough, and it can pour on the gain. I'm thinking of putting a compresser in front of it, maybe see if it will fit in my Boss 6 pack. I couldn't afford the SansAmp Classic, and the used one on ebay was really beat. So I'm happy, and am asking myself why I need overdrive. but then the "palm muting" feeling comes on me again and I'm off up the neck. Worth the $s without a doubt. If you have 4X the price look for the tubeman, but they are hard to find. If you have 9x give the Teck 21 Sansamp classic a go. I truly do like this moe than my Ibanez TS5.
