My only negative points and the only reason I did not give it 5 stars: The plastic lock (which holds the top and bottom together for easier moving/storage) is difficult to latch and does not stay put. The plastic drip tray is a bit flimsy. And so far, in my experience, the heating light does not work properly. It stays on all of the time instead of indicating "ready". But that is not really a problem for me as I can tell when its hot (only takes a few minutes).
I admit, this is my first panini maker. I read alot of reviews here on Amazon before choosing this one based soley on its size. And I seem to be the first to review this one. It was between this one and a George Foreman grill. And once I touched the GF grill in person at a store, I didn't like it. Trust me, this is a much better quality appliance and well worth the money! So overall, I would highly recommend it!
The good news:
The inside gets hot! Hot enough to fry an egg inside a full sandwich, inside two slices of bread (or two tortillas, if that is what you are into). The non-stick part appears to work great, but only time (and a complete lack of scratching) will tell. It successfully makes hot sandwiches! Wee!!
The bad news:
The top of the machine gets super-hot. I am willing to bet you could fry an egg on the top of the machine when it is on MAX if you wanted to. This is not helpful. Often you have a sandwich cooking and would like to adjust the angle of the top plate. Don't even think about pressing the top with your hand! Well, maybe try it once, just to make sure... it is HOT. I use a pot-holder and that works fine. Oh, like the other users said, the drip catcher is a little flimsy. Oh well.
I would never leave this thing plugged in for more than the time I was using it. I would never leave it plugged in and unattended. Maybe that's just me, but this thing is basically a controlled short-circut, and I really enjoy living in my wooden house. So the rules are:
1) take from cupboard
2) plug in/heat up/cook/unplug
3) clean and return to cupboard
Also, sometimes I do need to flip my sandwich or quesadilla to cook evenly on both sides; I do not know if this offends the gods of panini, but it appears to be the way things work.
This morning, the unit heated up so much that it charred my sandwich and melted the top knob and finish completely. It was on for less than 10 minutes and the sandwich was in the press for about 30 seconds when it burned it black.
Summary - Panani press was good while it lasted. I am trying to return it for a replacement now.

I got this on a deal and boy am i glad i did! i love that it's small and doesn't take up too much space in my small cabinet. It's just the right size to make 2 sandwiches. Read morePublished 2 months ago by Alexus Johnson
The only reason I bought this is because you can set the temperature. I liked it but the downside is it is small. You cannot put two large sandwiches in at the same timePublished 2 months ago by THY2596
I love this panini maker. I actually use tortillas in it to make "quesadillas" and it works the exact same. It heats up pretty quickly and does what its meant to. Read morePublished 3 months ago by Andy H
