Review

"What I adore about Bertha is how free she helps me feel. I read her words of wisdom and I grin, then I look out at the world with more spunk, hope and a hell yes I can! attitude. Let Bertha do the same for you. I promise, you'll thank me."
Jennifer Louden, best-selling author, The Woman's Comfort Book and The Life Organizer

From the Author

Writing Bertha-Size Your Life! was one of the most delightful things I have ever done. Originally, I was going to write a somewhat typical book incorporating Law of Attraction principles for women experiencing empty nest but Bertha had other ideas...she wanted a book of her own...and that's exactly what she got!

Bertha is one of those characters who get in your head and your heart. From zany outfits to downhome advice--she has it all.

I'm currently working on a sequel...and there has never been any doubt as to whose book it it will be.

If I used one word to describe this book it would be, F-U-N. But then again, there's another; "revelations." And yet another; "perspective." My list goes on and on. I enjoyed this read so much that I finished in two days.

Jane Carroll opens her story with the "Empty Nest" blues as her last child leaves via the altar, but she quickly turns the theme around into a wonderful adventure of enlightenment, encouragement, and self-love. One that helps the reader in sorting out the past, the present, and the next fifty years. She shows us how to really live. That's life...with a capital "L."

As the story begins, she's jogging in the park and meets a woman named Bertha. After friendly exchanges, the two decide the role of room-mates fits them well. As soon as Bertha moves in, life changes and might I say, all for the better. It truly gives new meaning to the phrase, "When the student is ready, ..." Bertha's lifestyle is all about taking time to smell the roses, literally on some days. She's offers how life is meant to be embraced, cherish, lived in the "now," and how drifting is not an option. There's no room for "woe is me" in this book.

Each day (and Chapter) begins with a new adventure, and a flashy new wardrobe, I might add, by the simple question being asked, "Bertha, what are you doing?" I quickly learned that once these lines were read, Bertha would emerge; sometimes climbing on her soapbox and delivering "aha" moments, and other times using life-altering analogies coated with wisdom that couldn't be denied, no matter how far one's head is buried in the sand.

While each Bertha-sized adventure was fun, this book gives the reader much more than chuckles. In the end, you fully understand.

This is a light-hearted read through one woman's life as she tries to deal with the empty-nest syndrome as well as her doubts and fears that tag along with it. Laced with humor throughout, I quickly realized Bertha was her alter-ego pushing herself to see beyond her self-ascribed limitations. In the end she realizes her horizons are endless so why not enjoy it while she can. Filled with metaphors and humor, it is a quick read or it can be savored a little at a time with advice for all women in how to deal with their life. Both inspirational and funny at the same time, enjoy this don't-take-yourself-seriously read and take it for what it is: a fun and positive way to deal with emotional and mental obstacles that might stop you from enjoying life.

Have you ever picked up a book and could not put it down? "Bertha-size Your Life" by Jane Carroll is one of those books. Author Jane Carroll captures your attention from the very first word. She will make you laugh out loud, smile and then make you stop and think about things in your very own life. The study of the Law of Attraction can be a complicated issue, however, Author Jane Carroll explains the laws in every day language you can understand. The illustrations by Cynthia Collins are amazing and lets your picture yourself right there with Bertha and Jane.

Author Jane Carroll speaks to every woman and inspires them to change things they may be doing wrong in their lives. Such as focusing on things you do not want in your life instead of the good things you do want in your life. Her examples show you how to correct your thinking in easy to follow ideas that will change negative thoughts to positive thoughts in no time at all.

"Bertha-size Your Life" is the "plan" for every woman who firmly believes life is meant to be enjoyed to the fullest. This book is a must read book for any woman at any age. Thank you Jane Carroll for inspiring me to be the very best person I can be. Bertha meet Bella Lynch. :-)

This book was an awesome book for women of any age. Even though the target market is empty nesters, it has lessons that even marketers can learn from. I love all of the positive thinking reminders that are in this book. I loved watching Bertha fight with the cat. It was actually the highlight of my evening when I got to settle down and see what Bertha was up to next. If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would, but Amazon only allows me 5. Great job!

I loved this book from start to finish. I caught on from early in the story that Bertha was a metaphor for a woman changing her ways and starting her life again. I loved that she was a person with faults, who had a past, but who constantly reminded herself...and everybody else...that there is always a choice between the positive and the negative and that the positive is always there, even if you have to step out of the box sometimes to find it. Jane Carroll has a light, musical writing style with quick jabs of humor and colorful descriptions. When you sink into her rhythm, the stories just flow one after the other. I might suggest that Bertha-Size Your Life! would be best read a chapter or two at a time, first thing in the morning, over a steaming cup of coffee. Take your time with this book. Go slow, let it sink in. Let it inspire you. And, maybe, Bertha can be that positive change in your day. If you let her, maybe even in your life.
