5.0 out of 5 stars Darlene Love is one of the finest voices in popular music..., January 3, 2000
By
Tommy Mun (The People's Republic of the United States) - See all my reviews
although many of her songs were released under the names of other artists, her voice is the real signature!

WOW! What a singer! You've heard her singing back-up with everyone from Johnny Rivers, Jan and Dean, Dionne Warwick, the Rightous Brothers, and on and on and on....but to hear her sing solo is the biggest treat of all.

Darlene can sing all the sounds....r&b, rock and roll, gospel, and this list goes on and on too!

You've seen her as Danny Glover's wife in all the Lethal Weapon movies and you can read about her in her book "My Name Is Love : The Darlene Love Story" (available at Amazon.com)......but the biggest treat of all is to hear her sing.

Sadly, this collection doesn't have the best rock and roll Christmas song of all time.... "Christmas, Baby Please Come Home"....but that's available at Amazon.com also on the CD "A Christmas Gift to You...from Phil Spector".

If you are a fan of Rock and Roll or just great music...check out this or any CD by Darlene Love...

You're in for a big treat!

4.0 out of 5 stars tap218, December 24, 2002

i first heard darlene love in 1962 when she sang he's a rebel although the crystals received credit for the song i didn't realize that phil spector had darlene sing the song eventhough she wasn't a member of the group. i guess phil could do pretty much what he wanted back then! this alblum demonstrates not only the wonderful voice darlene possessed but the creativity of phil spector. his musical arrangements a perfect blend of guitars, saxaphones, percussion, backupsingers and the best studio drummer there was in hal blaine.i truly enjoy most of the songs on this alblum, but my favorite is zip a dee doo dah. this song is just a great off beat rendition of an old classic.once again the band and darlene simply compliment eachother.i just wish it was about 5 minutes longer! i rated this alblum 4 stars because there are some songs i just can't quite get into. i'm sure there are other people who would enjoy them and i do appreciate the effort put into them, but i'll listen to 11 out of 15 songs anytime!

5.0 out of 5 stars DARLENE LOVE WAS QUEEN OF "THE WALL OF SOUND", October 21, 2002
By
ernie garcia (LONG BEACH, CA.) - See all my reviews
DARLENE LOVE HAS A VOICE THAT REALLY STANDS OUT. WHETHER YOU HEAR HER AS BACK-UP TO ELVIS PRESLEY, DICK DALE AND THE DELTONES(LISTEN TO THE MAN WITH THE BOSS GUITAR)YOU CAN TELL IT'S HER. SHE SANG IN SO MANY GROUPS BUT HER VOICE STOOD OUT!SHE DID HOWEVER MANAGE, THROUGH PHIL SPECTOR, TO RELASE SOME SINGLES UNDER HER OWN NAME.HER BIGGEST AND FIRST SOLO HIT WAS "TODAY I MET THE BOY I'M GONNA MARRY".WHAT A SOUND THAT WAS!! I WENT OUT AND BOUGHT SEVERAL COPIES BECAUSE I KNEW I'D WEAR THEM OUT. HER VOICE HOWEVER STANDS OUT BIG- TIME IN "HE'S A REBEL" SINGING LEAD WITH THE CRYSTALS. EVERYBOY LOVED TO DANCE TO THAT ONE IN THE 60'S! DARLENE HAD ORIGINALLY STARTED OUT SINGING GOSPEL AND THE STRENGTH IS HEARD IN ALL HER SONGS. I'VE BOUGHT EVERYTHING SHE EVER PUT OUT. THERE ARE STILL CUTS OUT THERE THAT HAVEN'T BEEN RELEASED WITH THE BLOSSOMS . ALL IN ALL THIS C.D. IS EXCELLENT AND NOT TO BE MISSED!!!DARLEN LOVE WAS QUEEN OF PHIL SPECTOR'S "WALL OF SOUND".

5.0 out of 5 stars Love ya, Darlene!, September 24, 1998
By A Customer
Darlene's was the quintessential voice of the '60s, and anyone who's been lucky enough to see her perform in recent years knows that her emotional power and expressiveness have, if anything, grown even greater over the years. This CD is essential, as it collects much of her best-known work for the Philles label. If you're interested in her work with the Blossoms, check out "60s Girl Groups" (Warner) and "Playin' Hard to Get" (Ace/UK), both of which are worthwhile. And finally, Darlene's autobiography, "My Name is Love", has just been published by William Morrow.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST FEMALE ROCK N ROLL SINGER EVER, May 18, 2009
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Saying that Darlene Love is the best female rock/pop singer of all time is quite an easy thing to do.Here is the proof. There are many other great singers but no one can handle virtually every style from rock, R&B (and I mean real rhytum and blues not some bad rap) or any other type of music as well as Ms. Love. This CD covers her Phil Spector years with some great selections and is a must have. I suggest that you also pick up the CD "So Much Love" The Darlene Love Anthology for a broader sample of her work through the years (available at Amazon.com). Between these two CD's you get to hear the real Darlene Love both as a background singer with her group the Blossoms and as the main Diva on some great songs. Having seen Darlene perform at her annual Christmas show (2008) I can tell you that if anything, she gets better with age.

So what are you waiting for, get this CD now. It will have you asking the question: Why isn't she in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

5.0 out of 5 stars Darlene's amazing, everyone should hear her live!!, June 30, 1998
I've caught Darlene Love when she sang in the Broadway show "Leader of the Pack", and again when she was at NYC's "Bottom Line" performing her life story in songs. It was great! Now I have her CD to list to always....keep them coming Darlene!! GG

This review is from: THE BEST OF Darlene Love (Audio CD)
I love Darlene Love and this CD has so many of her best hits. You can't help singing along with her and moving around some too. She finally got inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, which deserved a long time ago. I LOVE this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing CD!, December 17, 2010
This CD is absolutely amazing. Darlene's voice brings back so many memories of my growing up years in the 60's and first starting to become a huge listener of the popular music of the day--starting with my own 2-transistor radio (received at age 6 for Christmas). Anyone who's a fan of the 'Girl Goups of the 60's' should have this CD in their collection. Her voice can be heard on so many of the huge hits, including songs where others are credited. A couple of Crystals songs come to mind, like the original recording of He's a Rebel.

Anyone curious to know why she was finally chosen as a 2011 Inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame should buy this CD. The richness of her voice is truly amazing. I got a chance to see her in person on Broadway in 2005 in Hairspray and her songs received the main standing ovations. Her voice just improves with age.

OK, so which one of you other reviewers has MY copy of this CD, that I loaned out to a friend 10 (?) years ago? Well, I can get (am getting) another. My collection is mostly jazz, but I grew up on r&b and have a few standouts: The Impressions, Ike & Tina Turner, etc., and Ms Love is right up there.
