The list author says: "***Note: Kris' new movie (Dec 2013)ANGELS SING is a gem. Limited theatrical release but it's already on DVD. Waiting now for the soundtrack to be available.Latest CD FEELING MORTAL disappointing. Kris is my favorite musical performer, barely edging out Willie Nelson. Sadly, all collections of what is called his best are compiled as if his career ended in the 70's. Though movie roles (and for awhile semi-retired family life in Hawaii) slowed his later musical output.Lately he's recording and touring more again. Since the 80's, each album always contained a few gems which have unfortunately never been collected in a "BEST OF...Volume 2" So we have to compile our own. Country music's Rhodes Scholar, he's our best songwriter and his ability to communicate lyrics rivals Sinatra. One producer said: "Kris has a voice like a frog, but a frog that communicates." (Kris' latest CD is at the bottom of this list only because it's the most recent). Kristofferson is also a devotee of the poetry of William Blake, whose poetry is full of Christian theology and allusions to God's grace and blessings, much like some of Kris' writing. Shocking and breathtakingly stupid is the fact that CMT left Kris off their 'Greatest 40 Men of Country' list. People can differ about some of those on the list, but leaving Kris off is INSANE!!!(especially when you look at the list!) Did someone have a grudge, amnesia or what?"
"Disc 1 has most of his 70's gems, missing WHEN I LOVED HER. And if you could also sub THE LAST TIME and WHY ME LORD? from Disc 2 for Billy Dee and Darby's Castle on Disc 1, disc 1 would be perfect. Disc two, as Borat would say, 'not so much' with some disposables but also some goodies that are on better discs elsewhere."
"All of the songs here are included in the bigger and superior anthology above. But the plus here is that ALL the songs are outstanding so there are no boring parts.(But then there are only 10 songs!) Plus it's a bargain price!"
"Good bio. I'll use this space to list the Christian-themed songs from Kris: Why Me, Lord?, Burden Of Freedom, One Day At A Time, They Killed Him, Anthem 84, Living Legend, Slow Down, Magdalene, Sunday Morning Comin' Down,Shipwrecked In The 80's, Maybe You Heard, Help Me(written by Larry Gatlin),Love of Money. Christian lingo flavors many other songs too."
"Taking the opp to mention my fave Kris movie. Settler Kris' wife explains the good news of Jesus Christ to their Indian aptors, rekindling Kris in the process. Poetic gripping adventure. Incidently Kris credits his own 'spiritual awakening' to accepting an invitation to a Nashville Baptist church by Connie Smith, Marty Stuart's wife."
"3 clips from superb album FULL MOON (duets with ex-husband Kris). LOVIN'ARMS, my favorite of all Kris' recordings, but NOT written by Kris), You can hear the whole song on Youtube. Two more here: A SONG I'D LIKE TO SING and PLEASE DON'T TELL ME HOW THE STORY ENDS."
"This 2nd album by Kris&Rita is actually also Kris' second best album with NINE really good songs. Only two weak ones, DAKOTA and I'VE GOT TO HAVE YOU. Thing is, Kris' fondly remembered early classic albums really only have a few masterpieces each, surrounded by filler which is at best mediocre.(Not an insult...it's true of EVERY artist)"
"Fantastic concert by supergroup, the Mt Rushmore of 'outlaw' country icons (Kris, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash. Apparently recently on 'all regions'DVD. Be careful. Much, not all is on Youtube."
"MOMENT OF FOREVER, THE PROMISE, SHIPWRECKED IN THE 80's. (a song longing for lost faith, which rivals Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down).BETWEEN HEAVEN AND HERE(super duet with Jonell Mosser). MP3 clips for all."
"THEY KILLED HIM, tribute to Gandhi,M.L.King and above all, Jesus Christ.(Only onYoutube), EL COYOTE, SHIPWRECKED IN THE EIGHTIES, EL GALIVAN(The Hawk). EAGLE AND THE BEAR. LOVE OF MONEY (based on 1 Tim:6 from Bible)"
"THE LAST TIME.(a deceptively simple song which grows in power to become the most heartbreaking song I know...it's on youtube). BLESSING IN DISGUISE, STAR-CROSSED( a good rock'n'roll song for aging rockers)and lesserly: MAYBE YOU HEARD, and MAGDALENE. MP3 clips for all."
"FOREVER IN YOUR LOVE,BIGGER FOOL HARDER FALL...and LIVING LEGEND (but superior version on CD Highwaymen2 and better still on VHS concert Highwaymen LIVE' (below). All of these songs are on Youtube. MP3 clips here."
"BORN AND RAISED IN BLACK AND WHITE, SILVER STALLION, LIVING LEGEND(Kris compo) and ANTHEM 84 ( Kris compo and his earlier recording, but this version featuring Johnny Cash is much better). TWO STORIES WIDE is great but features only Willie who wrote it."
"Kris' best version of ME AND BOBBY McGEE( duet with then wife Rita Coolidge) and a good rendition of Larry Gatlin's Christian song HELP ME, trio with Rita and Larry. Nothing much else of interest in this concert. Even his classics are done better on other albums."
"Met Kris at 1994 Toronto simulcast of Julio Chavez-Pernell Whittaker fight. Told him this was his only movie I missed. Finally saw it 1914 on youtube. First 10 hrs interesting, last 2 fizzle. Kris good in his role and Mariel Hemingway is so appealing."
"While I'm motormouthing(actually motorfingering)here's another anecdote related to boxing. I once went to Ali's training camp in PA. Weeks later, I went to a Kris concert in Toronto and he came out wearing an Ali Training Camp T-shirt. He'd just finished filming this TV movie with Ali. I NEVER GOT A SHIRT !!!!!!"
"First release in years but disappointing. Reworking of old songs, less effective than the originals, except for WHY ME LORD?, as good as original, but, to quote Willie and Waylon, "ain't wrong, just different".I liked Johnny Cash's joke at the beginning."
"Not much here. OUT OF MIND, OUT OF SIGHT......and WHY ME(Lord)? which is available on many 'Best of' collections. Space here to mention vinyl LP Border Lord, noteworthy only for KISS THE WORLD GOODBYE and SOMEBODY NOBODY KNOWS."
"Just BANDITS OF BEVERLY HILLS, another amusing satire like Rocket to Stardom above. Space here to mention two MP3 recordings by Kris in tribute to buddy Waylon Jennings (despite their political bickering). Jennings songs 'I DO BELIEVE' and AIN'T GOT'EM ALL."
"Most of the westerns with Kris, Willie,Waylon and Cash are mediocre, but this one is surprisingly good, even among my top 40 all-time westerns (See my BEST WESTERNS...not omelettes, sandwiches or hotels)"
"Kris does 2 classics: LOVIN' HER WAS EASIER THAN ANYTHING I'LL EVER DO AGAIN.(I've stumped Charades players with that one!)and SUNDAY MORNIN' COMIN' DOWN. Other good performers. Crystal Gayle does one of my favorite love songs, Rodney Crowell's TILL I GAIN CONTROL AGAIN."
"Kris does a couple of good numbers here: PROMISE and PILGRIM'S PROGRESS. Other good guest appearances: Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kimmie Rhodes. Another good video of Kris alone: KRISTOFFERSON-LIVE FROM AUSTIN TX"
"2006. Like his previous two CDs, still borrows from previously recorded material. Best cuts are the title track(better than the former version) and Pilgrim's Progress. His redo of Burden of Freedom not nearly as good as ex-wife Rita's mentioned above. He did much of this in Toronto last fall with guitar only. I prefer more variety of instrumentation (a backup band)."
"2009. Aging voice. I'd still rather listen to him than 99% of other singers.(Not an exaggeration). But that's because I'm a 4-decade fan. Those whose first exposure is Kris' latest CD 'Feeling Mortal' will think he's starting to SOUND like Gabby Hayes, even though still an attractive guy at 76. Clips only on MP3. Best cuts here are 1,2,6,11."
"Jen Aniston/Kris. Just using it to rep Youtube short: 'Room 10'(full version)with Kris, directed by Aniston. Those thinking Kris not much of an actor should watch. Good, but only 20 mins. Kris stretched in BLUME IN LOVE, AMERIKA and CHELSEA WALLS too."
