As a middle school student, I used to read these books over and over again. They were my favorites. Judy Blume had a way of writing so realistically that even though I was reading the stories 15 years after they were published, I felt like they completely described my thoughts about life.

Flash forward 7 or 8 years and I found this collection of both books on Amazon. I had never had copies of these books as a child. I would always borrow them from my best friend or from the local library.

I purchased this collection without knowing anything about it and I was very pleased with it. The font used in this book is the same font that was used in the original copies which made it seem very homey.

My only problem with this collection is the dust jacket. Honestly, it's very ugly. But what's nice is that since it's a hard covered book, you can throw that part away and just enjoy the stories inside.

Who would I recommend this book to? Mothers, daughters, and any Judy Blume fans.

My daughter just finished the classic "Are You There God, it's Me, Margaret" and loved it, so I bought this for her. She loved this just as much. It's great that both novels are together in one book, perfect for JN fans. I just wish they would update the cover to make it more visually appealing for the tween or teen reader. This cover looks very juvenile, and I probably would have never bought it if I didn't know the novels were geared for a tween/teen audience. It looks more elementary school level.

More Than One BFF
REVIEWED BY: SAPNA SHARMA
Has your friendship with someone ever slowly faded away? If so, you have a lot in common with Rachel and Stephanie in "Just As Long As We're Together" by Judy Blume. In colonial decorated Palfrey's Pond, it is just two weeks before school starts and Rachel and Steph's friendship is tested when a popular French girl, Alison, moves in. I myself have had a similar experience in elementary school where my friendship slowly drifted away. Considering the thousands of other writers who wrote this same topic, Judy Blume does a descent job on keeping it unique. "Just As Long As We're Friends" hit a rough start, but slowly progressed throughout the book.
So in this book, Rachel and Steph are best friends. They've always been there with each other through good and bad times. Then, their friendship is challenged when Alison, the adopted French girl, moves in the area. Stephanie then begins to ask herself: Is it possible to have two best friends? At first, it is not, because she and Rachel had trouble telling secrets to two different people. Later, she realizes that with all the twists and turns in her life, she needs Rachel and Alison. The setting could have been better described, but Stephanie's thoughts are shown the entire time.
I would say that middle schoolers would enjoy this book the most. The characters are all in middle school (7th grade) and deal with the problems that teens deal with on a daily basis. The author does a good job on keeping the audience in mind. The book has a strong realistic fiction genre. They show Stephanie going through the difficulties and perks of being as American teen. From family, to friends, to boys, they show Stephanie trying to master it all.

More About the Author

Judy Blume spent her childhood in Elizabeth, NJ, making up stories inside her head. She has spent her adult years in many places, doing the same thing, only now she writes her stories down on paper. Adults as well as children will recognize such Blume titles as: Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret; Superfudge; Blubber; Just As Long As We're Together; and Forever. She has also written the best-selling novels Wifey; Smart Women; and, Summer Sisters. More than 75 million copies of her books have been sold, and her work has been translated into twenty-six languages.
She receives thousands of letters each month from readers of all ages who share their feelings and
concerns with her.
Judy received a B.S. in education from New York University in 1961, which named her a Distinguished Alumna in 1996, the same year that American Library Association honored her with the Margaret A. Edwards Award for Lifetime Achievement. She has won more than ninety awards, none more important than those coming directly from her youngest readers.
She serves on the boards of the Author's Guild, currently as Vice President; the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, where she sponsors an award for contemporary fiction; and the National Coalition Against Censorship, working to protect intellectual freedom. In Spring 2002, Judy was a spokesperson for the Cheerios "A Book for Every Child" literacy campaign which benefited Reading is Fundamental, America's largest literacy organization. She is also the founder and trustee of The Kids Fund, a charitable and educational foundation.
Judy's first book in the Fudge series, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, was published in 1972. She is thrilled to be celebrating its 30th Anniversary with the publication of Double Fudge. Just as generations of fans have loved the Fudge books, generations of Judy's family have inspired them. Thirty years ago, Fudge was inspired by her son, Larry, and now Double Fudge was written at the request of her grandson, Elliot.
Judy lives on islands up and down the East Coast with her husband George Cooper. They have three grown children and one grandchild.
