Not an AGP Video Card,
By
This review is from: BFG Tech NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT 512 MB DDR2 (Personal Computers)
Amazon says this card is an AGP video card, which it definitely is not. It is a PCI Express card, which is really frustrating considering the week I spent waiting for this for it to turn out to be the wrong card and I've needed a new AGP video card for 2 weeks now.

Many reports of fan housing melting,

This review is from: BFG Tech NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT 512 MB DDR2 (Personal Computers)
This card lasted less than 4 months for me. It started making fan noises after 2 months, and finally caused my computer to spontaneously reboot. When the card was removed from the computer it was obvious why it failed, the plastic housing over the fan has MELTED! This caused the fan to quit working, and the system overheated, causing the computer to reboot. When I took the card out of the computer I nearly burned my hand, it was so hot.
A web search showed that this problem is by no means unusual, there are many reports of the same problems. So now I get the privilege of paying my own money to return the card, only to get another which will probably fail in the same manner after a few months.

Great buy,

I bought this for a slim desktop which, unfortunately, can only use certain cards. This one came with the wider bracket shown already attached, but includes two slim brackets--you need to use both and use two slots in the computer. In my case it eliminates using a 3x PCI slot, but I wasn't using it anyway. The instructions are good for installing the card and getting it up and running, but there are no instructions for changing the bracket, but it is pretty straight-forward.
The card works well, improved the speed of my computer (which had integrated graphics), and is a good buy. Not the best out there but good for the price. The box says it is 2x better performance than the comparable 8 series 8400 GS.

Cheap for a reason,

This is a reasonable video card for the price, but it is cheap for a few reasons. The performance is middling at best - no gamer card, that's for sure, but seems to be more than up to the task of handling common stuff like web, video, email, etc.
The big dislike I have is with the fan and it's tendency to make odd noises. Sounds like a chirping cricket at times, with various squeaks and rhythmic groans coming from it. The noises are grating after a bit, and I'm sure it's only a matter of time before the fan fails on it. I wouldn't purchase this again if I knew about the noise.

Great card for the price,

This is a great card for the price. Fairly easy to install- the directions could have been better for removal of old card, otherwise, it was up and running in 30 min. It's a quiet card, and I've been able to run MS Flight Sim X at High settings with no drag. Ultra High gives some jumpiness, but I think that's more a memory issue than the card. All-in-all, I'm happy with the buy.

I had this video card for awhile now and it was pretty awesome up until the fan went. Just as others had said, the plastic melted. As an IT Technician though, I am good with making things work so I had to take a cool master fan from an old AMD heat sink and use that. Well the thing itself had a base with clips. All I did was clip the hard plastic on and then screw the fan in and its a really good fit. I plugged it up to the motherboard and now it works great. I cannot say anything bad about this graphics card besides the fan and even the heat that the card produces. The fan in itself was not made for the graphics card. Thats why a lot of people have problems with it, but if you have an old AMD heat sink lying around that your not using of the right size, then you can use the fan off of it. Just don't forget the base to it since even the original fan for this card uses clips.

On the plus side, it does run World of Warcraft and City of Heroes with ease. It doesn't cost much money and it's alot better than my onbroad card, but after about a month it makes alot of noise. Mostly just loud humming, but sometimes clicking and revving sounds. I fully expect the fan to fail eventually. Also it does come with a warrenty, but you have to register it with a proof of purchase within a month of buying it or the warrenty is void.

Using in HDTV DVR system,

I bought this a few months ago to use to convert our HP PC into a DVR.
It plays HD content well, but we do get some graininess, I'm not sure if it's due to just being a 60 HZ TV or if it's a PC or card issue. It flashes on and off a few times at startup, then works fine. The fan noise is practically nil, and I've had no issues with overheating or fan noises. I don't use it for games, just surfing and watching HD TV. The install was easy, and the setup is also easy. It has a nice feature to fit the screen size to match the TV, so I get the maximum resolution. I'm using it in an HP PC with a Intel Core Duo 2.0 GHz processor, and 4 GB of RAM. It also doesn't have a HDMI output slot, but I used a DVI to HDMI adaptor which works fine, but does not carry audio.

This card has been running in my HP desktop for over a month now and I have had no problems at all with it. The instalation was easy and took less time than to take the cover off the tower! The computer has been running various games and internet based games as well and I have noticed the color representation is really beautiful and sharp. Would recomend. The life time warranty is pretty nice too.
