4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly Surprised!
I admit that I was pleasantly surprised with the Ballas Hough Band. Who knew that these awesome dancers could also sing? And they wrote many of the songs themselves!

Many of their songs are about their own experiences with love and heartbreak (Fall, Devastated), but despite such emotional subjects, some of these songs just make you want to dance (Do You Love...

In listening to this cd for the first time I found myself thinking that it would be really good music for the beach or a pool party, when you have to be aware of those around you. There is absolutely nothing offensive in the lyrics, the music is upbeat and catchy, and is more N Sync in style than Hannah Montana or Jonas Brothers. I do think the entire record would have been much more enjoyable if the female backup vocals were heard more-her voice is lovely. Safe for the young and old, not as obnoxious as some for the parents.

I admit that I was pleasantly surprised with the Ballas Hough Band. Who knew that these awesome dancers could also sing? And they wrote many of the songs themselves!

Many of their songs are about their own experiences with love and heartbreak (Fall, Devastated), but despite such emotional subjects, some of these songs just make you want to dance (Do You Love Me, Birthday).

Their first single from the album, Do It For You, is one of my favorite tracks. It was co-written by new American Idol judge Kara Dioguardi, and it's just another one of those songs that I can't get out of my head. I also enjoy Together Faraway--a mellow song with a very catchy chorus, and Longing For--a sweet ballad.

The CD is also an interactive CD--just pop it into your computer to go directly to various Ballas Hough Band sites, such as their Facebook and MySpace pages.

I really enjoyed Ballas Hough Band's debut album, BHB, and I already can't wait for their sophomore album!

This CD is fantastic. It mixes sounds like Maroon 5, Justin Timberlake and other great pop artists, and they wrote the majority of their songs, which is phenomenal! Definitely check out this CD. It will be money well spent!

unfortunately, I can't stomach the Jo Bros, so I'm definitely not enthusiastic about the Ballas Hough Band. It sounds like these guys went into the studio on Synthesizer Revival Day, grabbed the first beat machine operator they could find - who happened to be hyped up on Red Bull - and decided to record the cheesiest lyrics they could come up with. Oddly enough, I found 'Longing For', 'Fall', and 'Break Through' to be somewhat listenable, but three tracks does not an album sell. All in all, it's hyper-active drivel that would fit in the background of any Disney Channel movie. Find a free album preview somewhere and listen before shelling out money for these guys.

4.0 out of 5 stars From Ballroom Dancers to Pop Stars, March 29, 2009
This review is from: bhb (Audio CD)
The Ballas Hough Band has a good, solid, upbeat sound for their debut album titled BHB. Anyone who's given ABC's hit show Dancing With the Stars even a passing glance knows the names Mark Ballas and Derek Hough. Growing up in musically inclined families heavily influenced their fresh sound very reminiscent of Maroon 5.

The Ballas Hough Band credits a diverse range of influences -- from Michael Jackson to Prince, Queen, and even Nirvana. Their first single "Do It For You" is the perfect introduction to the band's pop sensibilities especially having been co-written by the new American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi.

They are easy to listen to, my kids love them and so they are definitely added to our music repertoire. Give them a listen and you will find yourself singing along to "Do It For You" or "Closer."

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Car Music with your kids, March 23, 2009
This review is from: bhb (Audio CD)
Great easy-going music that both the kids and I like, perfect for carpooling! I like the lyrics, and different undertones in the music - it's pop, but I like the latin music influence, and I can totally see it coming from the dance background Mark Ballas and Derek Hough have!

"Do You Love Me" and "Closer" are my favorites.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ballas Hough Bad Rocks!, March 23, 2009
This review is from: bhb (Audio CD)
Mark Ballas and Derek Hough are two professional ballroom dancers. They are also the Ballas Hough Band and are on Dancing With the Stars. These two young men are truly amazing.

The two best friends have been playing and making music together for more than a decade. Their love of music is apparent when you listen to their album. They write their own music and it's obvious that they put their hear and soul into their music.

The first song on the CD, "Do It For You," was co-written by the new American Idol judge, Kira DioGuardi.

I find their music to be upbeat, fresh, unique and fresh. I also think that it appeals to people of all ages. I enjoy it and so does my 5 year old daughter. It's actually in her CD player right now.

When I first received my copy of their new CD from the One2One Network, I instantly thought their music was going to be the typical "boy band" music. I'll be the first to admit that I was wrong, I was pleasantly surprised.

All of their songs don't sounds the same either, they have a variety of music and sounds. That in itself is a wonderful attribute to their album. I want to know that I'm listening to a different song and be able to recognize that from the beginning!

The stars of "Dancing With the Stars" can sing and dance! I don't think it gets much better than that! :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great music!, March 22, 2009
This review is from: bhb (Audio CD)
From the very first time I listened to this CD, I was hooked. It's exactly the kind of music that I love - whether singing along in the car or playing on my laptop while I'm surfing the Internet. It's also newly installed on my iPod, and I'm looking forward to being able to listen while on-the-go, since my music-listening time is otherwise rather limited.

I can't think of a song on this album that I don't like - but my favorites, at least so far, are "Do It For You", "Break Through", "Do You Love Me" and "Closer". For me, what either makes or breaks a song is that it has to have a good beat, vocals that I can understand and that don't include a lot of curse words or other lyrics I don't want my kids hearing, and that it makes me want to sing along. Each and every song on the BHB CD fits those criteria. I've even managed to play it a few times in the kitchen after convincing my girls that Mommy needs a choice at least every now and then, lol. :)

4.0 out of 5 stars BHB - easy on the eyes and ears, March 22, 2009

Who knew the stars of Dancing with the Stars could sing? With BHB, I think Mark Ballas and Derek Hough could grow to be as popular behind the mike as they are on the dancefloor. I've left my pop music days way behind, but even I can find something to groove to on this album. "Fall" and "Do It For You" are great songs for working out or running to, and I think their ballads are great. I like "Underwater" and "Closer", with their guitar sounds and suave Latin feel. But my favorite song in the album is definitely "Longing For" -- the soulful, yearning harmony of Emily Grace and Mark Ballas' voices gives me goosebumps. Good work, BHB!
