5.0 out of 5 stars Bic Venturi DV62SI
I was looking to replace my Boston Acoustics a60 pair after about 20 years of use. I read as many reviews as I could find on the internet and also looked at Consumers Report. I kind of narrowed it down to the JBL S26,Venturi DV62si and Polk r15. The DV62si won the competition. I auditioned each of the speakers and found the BIC pair to have a singularly beautiful sound...

3.0 out of 5 stars these are just ok. you get what you pay for.
listened to these for a few days with a HK3490 and vintage Marantz 2252. tried them on stands, no stands, etc. mediocre sound at best. my paradigm titans (v2) sound much more natural and open. much better bass too. polk rti38 also sounds much better. but those speakers cost 3-4 times as much. build quality seems good. nothing wrong with these speakers. but there's nothing...

5.0 out of 5 stars Bic Venturi DV62SI,
This review is from: BIC America DV62si Bookshelf Speakers (Pair, Black) (Electronics)I was looking to replace my Boston Acoustics a60 pair after about 20 years of use. I read as many reviews as I could find on the internet and also looked at Consumers Report. I kind of narrowed it down to the JBL S26,Venturi DV62si and Polk r15. The DV62si won the competition. I auditioned each of the speakers and found the BIC pair to have a singularly beautiful sound especially for classical and jazz (which are my mainstays). I was pleasantly surprised by the bass response since CR said they were a bit "bass shy". I recommend highly. (I have my speakers on 12 inch stands.) Bravo BIC.

5.0 out of 5 stars Accurate Audio's Best Value,
This review is from: BIC America DV62si Bookshelf Speakers (Pair, Black) (Electronics)I'm a bit picky about realistic sound; I did a bit of conducting in high school and college. So, it is little wonder that I'm still running a mint pair of ultra-clear ESS amt 1B floor standers in the audio room and Paradigm Mini-Monitors in the HT room.
I first bought a pair of DV62si's as a gift for my father because of two factors: they sound great not only for movies, but for music, too; and, they are a screaming deal, pricewise. Since putting together dear dad's system, I've recommended the DV62si's to four friends who use them in HT surround systems. Needless to say, they are the envy of their friends and families, and pains to their next door neighbors when they show movies and forget to close the windows.
I've been working in a home office for the past six months and needed tunes and NPR in the room. So, I picked up a bullet-proof Onkyo TX-8222 stereo receiver and another pair of DV62si's. An old Samsung DVD player plays CDs and a Sony portable Mini-disk player does the recording and playback tasks.
For years the leading consumer magazine has rated these speakers as one of the most accurate they've ever tested. Yes, they grumbled that there wasn't much extended low bass. However, these speakers were designed for HT applications, where the use of a subwoofer is presumed. So, extended low bass is really a non-issue. The build quality compared to audiophile exotics is utilitarian. However, it is strong and adequate considering the low price.
While many tweak-o-philes insist on sending the crossovers out to replace a cap or resistor or two so that they can claim "miraculous" sonic improvements, that really isn't necessary. The DV62si's in their native state are remarkably similar to Paradigm's Mini-Monitors, which means with their clarity and smooth transitions between low to high frequencies, they sound great with jazz, blues, new age and classical. If one wanted to use this set up for rock or hip hop, a big sub would be in order.
If you've outgrown the commonly available products from the "Joe Sixpack" brands and are searching for entry-level audiophile sound quality at a really low price, you've got to try these speakers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great price / crystal clear sound,
This review is from: BIC America DV62si Bookshelf Speakers (Pair, Black) (Electronics)I just hooked these up to a moderately priced A/V receiver from Pioneer; I'm guessing they will take a few days to break in, but they sound excellent already. For the money, they're the best speakers around. For their size, they make decent, low-end bass. I will not be needing a sub, they're that good.
Their looks are pleasing; fit-and-finish is good to very good, not too fake-wood looking. For the price, it's acceptable.
The packaging is poor; I really thought my speakers were damaged when I removed them, as the cardboard box and the foam inserts were flimsy -- very poor quality. But, except for one of the back corners that was slightly dinged, they were in great shape.
I am giving them 5 stars for the very low price.
Update 6/13/07: I am very happy with the speakers. It has been several weeks and I enjoy them more and more every day. I have discovered that music can be fun to listen to again as I am hearing a quality and clarity that was missing with my old setup.
I've integrated a small subwoofer into my setup that extends the low end down a bit more. I listen to old LPs, an IPOD, and the local radio stations -- all sound excellent. Best sound/value speakers I have ever owned.
UPDATE 7/27/13: Well, what can I say. It's been six years since I purchased these babies on Amazon, and they have not let me down. Workhorses, they are; they get used nearly every single day and have performed flawlessly during that whole time. I just want to comment on two things: 1) the woofers' rubber surrounds are still in perfect shape, and 2) the cabinets' fit and finish is still great; the dark grey vinyl wood grain coverings have not peeled away at all anywhere. Of course, I have not abused them any as they have both sat in the exact same spot for years. And, the dust covers too have held up perfectly.
That's it, and see you in six years for another update!

5.0 out of 5 stars BIC DV62si - Great speaker/Better value,
This review is from: BIC America DV62si Bookshelf Speakers (Pair, Black) (Electronics)I took the plunge and bought a Panasonic 50PX60U plasma TV from Amazon this Christmas. To match the great visual experience of the plasma, I also decided to upgrade the sound output to something that would more approximate a home theater experience. For reasons of cost and space, I shyed away from buying a 5.1, 6.1, or 7.1 home surround receiver. Instead, I purchased a low cost stereo receiver for $75 on the internet. To go along with the whole consertative motiff, I researched a popular consumer magazine and found these low cost speakers near the top of the list.
At this point I would like to point out that I am no audio expert. I do however go by an old classmates advice that the most important part of an audio system are the speakers because these are what you listen to. If you buy good quality speakers, you will have good quality sound.
So after finding these speakers in a consumer magazine, I started surfing the internet to find out what real audio experts say about them. Everywhere I looked I found everyone raving about these BIC's. And best of all, the price of just over $100 a pair with free shipping at Amazon was impossible to pass up.
Well I now have my Panasonic plasma integrated with a basic stereo reveiver and these two fantastic speakers. The sound quality is unbeliveable. Even though I do not have a home theater surround system per se, I find that these speakers sound like I'm in a movie theater. They have an absolutely fantastic sound quality. And for $184 for two speakers and a receiver, I laugh to myself every time I use them (my wife is very polite about it but I think she has heard me say "how about that sound system for under 200 bucks?" a few times too many).
When it comes to playing just music with these BIC's, the sound quality is excellent. It sounds like the artist is right in the room with you.
So if you're considering buying new speakers to replace old ones or are buying them for the first time, I would highly recommend these great quality speakers. If you are considering constructing a do-it-yourself home surround system, these would do very nicely for the two front speakers in the system without chewing up much space in your viewing room. And even though their size is relatively small (approx 9"x9"x14" tall), they sound like giant size speakers with great clarity and accuracy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing,
This review is from: BIC America DV62si Bookshelf Speakers (Pair, Black) (Electronics)These speakers are far better that I would expect from and bookshelf speaker of this size ands price. I love the warmth of these little speakers. I listened to Bose 301's and these are better to me. I think for what you pay and the sound quality you get it is hard to justify the Bose at 3x the price!
Still a bookshelf speaker, and they do have limitations for the size, but I would recommend them to anyone looking for a bookshelf speaker that sounds great and has a real mans price sticker.

5.0 out of 5 stars Big sound, little package,
This review is from: BIC America DV62si Bookshelf Speakers (Pair, Black) (Electronics)I just wrote a review of the the Dv-62CLRS speaker, which is a top of the line center speaker. When I bought the DV-62CLRS I also got a pair of the DV-62si's. I paired them together with the DV-62CLRS speaker as my front speakers for my sourond sound system matched to a Rotel Processor and Parasound Amp. After close to a 100 hour burn in these speaker started to come to life. All I can say is that for the price they just can not be beaten. It is a shame that most stereo stores do not stock these so as to compare them to their high dollar speakers. Could be there is some logic to this as they would have a hard time selling those other brand name speakers(at two to three times the cost). when compaired to the B.I.C.s

5.0 out of 5 stars great bang for the buck,
This review is from: BIC America DV62si Bookshelf Speakers (Pair, Black) (Electronics)I am an electrical contractor and find my self doing custom audio installations more often now. Many clients ask for recomendations or
have me purchase the equipment for them( with a tidy mark up of
course). These speakers were purchased for the listening room of a
world famous composer. His only practical choice for the room was
bookshelf speakers beause the layout made floor speakers
obstructive. Coupled with a self amplified subwoofer these speakers
pleased my client immensely. The next pair are for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Speakers,
This review is from: BIC America DV62si Bookshelf Speakers (Pair, Black) (Electronics)These speakers are fantastic. The imaging that the create when combined with the DV-62CLR center channel is amazing. They blend so smoothly that it is very difficult to determine what speaker the sound is coming from. Typically with most systems, you can pick out when the dialogue is focused through the center channel, but this makes very smooth transitions between all of the speakers. I am currently using them as my front speakers in a surround set-up that also works well for music, if not better. The sound does take a little time to warm up, but all good speakers do require break-in time. For me I listened to various types of music for about two days before the sound began to mellow and develop a richer sound. At first, the sound was kind of hollow and timid, but over time developed a very lively, open sound. I listened to B&W speakers that were highly recommended, but thought that they lacked the true live sound, they sounded boxy, but very accurate. I prefer the sound of Energy, Paradigm, or even Boston Acoustics for a warmer feel, but these bookshelfs are much cheaper. I will hopefully get the DV 64 towers to replace these as my front speakers and move these to the back as surrounds. The only reason they get four stars is because nothing is perfect, but they do sound like speakers costing upwards of five hundred dollars plus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bic america dv62si,
This review is from: BIC America DV62si Bookshelf Speakers (Pair, Black) (Electronics)Hi there. I got the pair about 2 weeks ago. I decided to wait on for the review because I wanted a full break-in period for these. I will agree with other customers that they were a-bit bright at first with not enough bass. After about a week of somewhat continuous playing, I find the warmth and bass really coming in fully! They are a true pleasure to listen to.
the build quality on these is great. Has some dampening material inside, its sufficient
For around 55 dollars each speaker (I am on an extremely tight budget) There is absolutely nothing of this price and probably even double that could beat the quality and sound of these.
UPDATE: ---> 7/6/11......I just noticed that every time I listen to these, I smile. I have a more recent harman/kardon amplifier/receiver and as a setup, the sound is just superb. I just noticed that one of the customers put them next to their computer screen like 2 feet apart from each other. As I understand, many people have insufficient room for these speakers, but jeez, not 1 or 2 feet apart! You guys, these speakers need their space! I have them about 8-9 feet apart from each other. Placed about 9 inches from a wooden wall and they just sound amazing. APROX. room size: 18 by 32. Pretty large room for such small drivers (6 inch woofer) but as I said, the sound is just astonishing at this price point. Just listened to Steve Winwood's: Valerie and I was completely amazed. 5/5 star or 10/10 or 100/100 what ever you rate it on. but these just surpassed my expectations. They really did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Forget the Overpriced Bose,
This review is from: BIC America DV62si Bookshelf Speakers (Pair, Black) (Electronics)Awesome sound out of these little gems! Don't let Amazon's great price and free shipping fool you, these are all you'll need for completely satisfying sound. No doubt you can spend 5 or 10 times the money for furniture speakers or the popular audiophile names and that's fine. However, if you just want great, clear sound reproduction from low bass to undistorted highs, you can save a lot of money right here with BIC America. I love mine, sometimes loud, but always clear. Enjoy the music and save your money.
