The first pair of these I received would clip/crash at moderate volume, and sounded totally blown if turned up. Amazon advanced-shipment replaced them and the new speakers sounded fine, not great, but worth the money. Don't think I'd recommend these unless you already have holes in your wall/ceiling the size of this speaker (Like I did), and fitment is the primary concern.

Fantastic speakers for the price. I have installed 5 pairs of these speakers now and I've yet to have a quality issue. As with any in-wall or in-ceiling installation, it is important that you cut the hole just large enough for the speaker to fit. I generally go a step further and apply a thin bead of sealant around the ring to provide a nice seal to the wall. Also make sure that any loose insulation doesn't jam between the driver and the backplate. This will force the coil to work twice as hard, creating excessive heat and ultimately destroying the driver--this is the case with any in-ceiling speaker. I will mention that these speakers with an under powered amp are just ok. Do yourself a favor and pair these with a high quality and clean signal source. With a minimum of 40 hours of break-in listening, I have not once experienced clipping or crashing in these speakers at "reference" volume. Not. Once. The mid-bass is great, very punchy. Highs are surprisingly well-rounded for a horn. Low-end is almost non-existent, but you shouldn't expect earth shattering bass from an in-ceiling speaker (buy a subwoofer for your home theater!!!). However, there's enough low-end to sound good as a distributed audio speaker. I will continue to buy BIC America/Acoustech products for my home as well as recommend them to my customers.
