4.0 out of 5 stars Dv-84's vs. DV-64's
After owning the DV-84 towers and DV-64 towers for over a year I'd like to say that the 64 is the way to go. I've been told that 8" drivers are too big to be accurate and I can now hear it. At first I liked the 84's because of the extra bass but last week I put the 64's side by side with the 84's again and realized the 64's have a much cleaner mid range. And besides,...

3.0 out of 5 stars If you can get it shipped without damage, you're good to go..
I originally purchased a pair of begin the process of replacing an old Bose 301/141/VSC10 surround setup I had just sold.

My plan was to mate these with a DV62CLR center channel and DV62si rears to create my new system.

I received the items promptly thanks to Amazon.com's 2 day shipping. However, when they arrived one speaker had been crushed in the...

At first I liked the 84's because of the extra bass but last week I put the 64's side by side with the 84's again and realized the 64's have a much cleaner mid range. And besides, they're cheaper. So, don't buy the 84's because you think they're going to sound better with bigger speakers. They don't.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Excellent Speakers, June 16, 2007

This review is from: BIC America Venturi DV84 2-Way Tower Speaker, Black (Single) (Electronics)
I've owned Klipsch, B&W and KEF speakers. My friend has PSB speakers, $700 for the pair . These speakers equal all of those or do better. I only paid $130 ea. for these but they are worth all of the retail price of $375 ea.

The thing you have to know about speakers is placement in the room is VERY VERY VERY important. You cannot just slap them on the floor and leave them there. Read the manual on these speakers. They suggest you put them 2-3 feet AWAY from the wall and it does make a difference. These are not a pair of speakers for a little room.

The presence and sound stage on these speakers is just breath taking. If you close your eyes you can see the muscians playing their instruments and the depth of sound is just amazing. I had my friend come over and do a blind sound test. He asked me after the first song I played if I was sure I didn't have a center channel speaker on because the music sounds like it's coming right in front of you.

I will give this information about the room I'm playing them in (the room makeup makes a HUGE diffence in how speakers sound). The living room is about 20 X 30 with tile floors, an area rug, and large vaulted ceilings (which really add to the sound stage). I have large leather furniture, paintings on the walls, and lots of large plants. I can't stress enough how much room compistion and placement of speakers effect the sound.

On any pair of speakers you get, make sure you try them in lots of different positions: point them up, point them in, point them out, and pull them away from the wall varying lengths. Hard flooring and uneven wall surfaces (meaning you have pictures or things hanging on the walls or plants in front of the walls) make a big difference in spreading the sound.

If you have a subwoofer please please don't crank it up. When you read reviews and people sometimes list them as 'boomy' I wonder if they just have the subwoofer turned up too high. You shouldn't HEAR a sub as much as you should feel it. You shouldn't hear boom boom boom and not much else, you should feel a nice tight thump that extends sound. I always like to say that a sub drops the bass from your knees to your feet. Also location IS important in a sub and make sure you move it around too A sub being too close to the wall will also lend it to being 'boomy'. I know this review is long, but I hope these tips help you out in making your system sound better.

I have a pair of these 84's as well as the 64's and love both of them. You'll be hard pressed to find a better speaker for the money esp. one with the clarity and imaging of these. Side by side the 84's and 64's are very similar and I can't decide which one I like more. You can't go wrong though for a pair of 64's for $240! I hear the crossover Ed Frias does is real popular, improving the warmth and clarity for pretty cheap. You can find out more about him in audio review websites.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes, buy it., October 27, 2009

I bought these to replace my Onkyo SKS-HT540 7.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System. I have Onkyo TX-SR605S 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver. So, based on weeks of research I have settled with 2 BIC America DV-84 front speakers and DV-62CLRS center speaker (I guess, it's good to have the same brand for tonality in the front). These DV-84 speakers produce clear, rich, and deep bass sound that I haven't heard in many other speakers that I have owned. The music was perfect. Also, I bought Infinity powered PS212 Subwoofer (400 Watt) to compliment this setup which produced very low, tight and undistorted bass.

The DV-84s are really huge speakers. So, proper placement of these speakers are very important. Amazon tried to ship this using FedEx and one of the speakers came broke. I have called the Amazon customer service, and they have arranged for the speaker pick-up, and shipped another one the very next day with no extra cost. This time it came by UPS in good condition. :-) East or West, Amazon is the best. :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Let The Low Price Fool You!!, December 30, 2010
This review is from: BIC America Venturi DV84 2-Way Tower Speaker, Black (Single) (Electronics)
I recently purchased the BIC Venturi DV84 Towers after several weeks of auditioning many speakers at different price points. I'll try to save you some shoe leather by saying IMHO that you will not find a better sounding "Floor Standing" speaker for the average price asked. In fact be prepared to spend several hundred dollars more before hearing any significant improvement. I'm sure there will be people who will totally disagree with such a bold statement. The fact is these speakers have excellent frequency response with very clean highs (not overly bright as some may suggest), strong mid range reproduction and the most definitive bass you'll find out of the box at this price. My first set of BIC speakers was the Formula 4 puchased in the 70's. Those were great speakers but these are much, much better.

Some will ask, why so cheap? The answer is staring right at you. They don't look very fancy or aggresive. They're designed in the USA but unfortunately assembled in China. There not found in fancy stores like Best Buy so there's no sales commission to be made. That's why you can buy them at a value price. Their website leaves much to be desired. If you factor in these points and BIC did all that I mentioned their speakers would cost much more. If you visit their website you will quickly learn that they share a pedigree with some very well known speaker builders. I purposely did not mention the speakers auditioned not to offend anyone. I will mention that I did audition their BIC Acoustech surround system. They are exceptional, but I find the sound of horn speakers to loud for my taste. Comparing the two is like listening to a bird tweeting vs a traffic cop blowing his whistle. But for music the entire Venturi line particularly the bigger speakers are untouchable. Again their not the prettiest speakers to look at but I hear with my ears not my eyes.

4.0 out of 5 stars BIC America DV84 Speakers, July 10, 2010
This review is from: BIC America Venturi DV84 2-Way Tower Speaker, Black (Single) (Electronics)
I have recently upgraded from an older 5.1 Sony receiver STRDE425 and Cerwin Vega E315's (12" 3 way),JBL tiny rear m50's, Sony powered sub (cheapo SAwm40 12") to the BIC DV84's, a Marantz SR6001 receiver, NAD 2200 power amp, some older B&W DM580 small towers for the rear and a Polk PSW505 12" sub. I have the same Cerwin center speaker (which I can't wait to replace). I didn't realize what I was missing. I placed the BICs next to the Cerwins with just the Marantz and couldn't believe the difference in clarity. The BICs blew them away. I must say the tweeters on the BICs are way too much. I have the parametric eq set at -8 on the highest freq. and it's still too bright. I'm just getting into the entry level audiophile stuff (it's addicting) so I'm not an expert but I know a bit about it. Like everyone says... great bang for the buck. I think I'm going to have to spend a lot more to get a significant increase in quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Speaker's sound does the talking, April 2, 2010
This review is from: BIC America Venturi DV84 2-Way Tower Speaker, Black (Single) (Electronics)
One thing I can say about this speaker is WOW..... I have owned many Yamaha and other brand speakers but sound that came out of Bic Venturi DV84 was something else. When I ordered these speakers I had not heard or tested these speakers. I bought it after reading the good reviews on amazon.

The sound clarity on these speakers are astounding. The high notes it hits are amazing. With the passive radiators the bass is just out of this world. I played Shine on you crazy diamond by Pink floyd to test out the speaker on 2 channel mode just playing these two speakers. This song has never sounded better. No subwoofer needed and no other speakers needed, these two will just sing.

You will be amazed how beautiful the sound is for this price point. You cannot get better speakers for this price range period. I can bet that many thousand dollar speakers will envy the sound quality these bad boys produce.

Jazz and acoustic music sound so clear that feels like I am playing it. To test out home theater system, I played Nature's most amazing events blu ray. Wow sound clarity is just amazing.

For the center channel I have Sony CN5000. Which I will be replacing with Bic DV62clrs. Don't hesistate to buy these speakers at all. Also comes with 7 years of warranty. I am not sure why Bic America is not sold in most of the electronic stores is beyond me. No need to think. If you need great floorstanding speakers then add these puppies to your shopping cart.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT speakers! better than paradigm or wharfedale, January 19, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: BIC America Venturi DV84 2-Way Tower Speaker, Black (Single) (Electronics)
I own bose redline cubes, bose bookshelf speakers, wharfedale speakers (Kevlar), and the bic acoustech tower speakers. Out of all those I like the bic venturi towers the best (dv84). I auditioned paradigm monitor 7 ($800) against these and although they sounded very good I liked the dv84's better. The paradigm speakers had a great balanced sound, but in comparison to the dv84s they lacked crisp highs and low base. It was very apparent that the dv84's have a much wider range of sound and can produce very high and very low frequencies. I like the clear sound of the acoustech speakers, but the horns play so loud that it doesnt sound right without a subwoofer. I would highly recommend the dv84 speakers to anyone that is looking for speakers in the $1000 price range. I paid $300pair for mine and so far I have yet to listen to any speakers under $1000 that sound better. The connector(plastic) and cabinet(laminate/particle board) quality is definitely not as good as some of the other brands, but its hard to pay 3 times as much money for a speaker that is built out of better materials when doesnt sound as good. These are a really fun speaker to listen to!
