Best mechanical pencil I have ever used.

Bic makes the best writing utensils and they are the only brand I will turn to when in need of a quality pencil.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best mechanical pencil I've ever owned, March 27, 2011

This review is from: BIC Atlantis Mechanical Pencil, Refillable, Medium Point (0.7 mm), 12 Pencils (Office Product)
I have been using the BIC Atlantic Pencil 0.7 for the last few years in school. I am about to purchase more of them. After years of use the rubber pencil grip is feeling loose around the pencil. It doesn't affect the usage, but I have been picking at it and I know I'll destroy it eventually. I like the shape and size of the pencil. Bulkier shapes are awkward and ridges in the pencil are uncomfortable. This has a smooth, cylindrical shape. The rubber grip is comfortable. The eraser works well, which is why I use a separate eraser for bigger jobs so I don't waste the good one. I like that I can refill lead without prying the eraser out of the end, I only have to unscrew the top half or remove the entire eraser compartment. I find this makes it truly refillable. I love the refill tubes that come with lead and erasers. I also like the eraser cap that comes on the pencils, but those are easy to lose if you don't put them back on right away. I keep a backup in my bag and the cap protects the eraser and separates the backup from my everyday pencil. If I run out of lead during class I switch to my backup. I have had some small pieces of lead from breakage in the reservoir tube, but it is not a big deal for me. If I am in class and it prevents me from getting lead out quickly, I will just switch to my backup. Unless you don't move your pencil at all, I don't see how this would be avoidable.

UPDATE: They have changed the design of the pencil since the last time I bought one. It is now a darker grey, almost black. Also the pencil grip has some new plastic designs imprinted which I hope means the pencil grip won't start to peel away like my last one. The pencil and eraser are still working the same and I like the new color and pencil grip.
