5.0 out of 5 stars I love these markers
I am a designer and use my expensive design markers sparingly, these guys pick up the slack for all the sketch work I do

However, they do not last near as long as Sharpies do. She makes a lot of hand done posters for her room. She wanted to use these since they would greatly expand the color choices from the Sharpie staples. But she goes through 2 complete Bic markers until they are used up to fill in the same space 1 Sharpie can do the job in.

They are perfect for scrap booking, drawing, and other light use, but not the heavy duty use some people need.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not nearly as good as the Sharpie, October 18, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased Bic permanent markers to replace my worn Sharpies that were a few years old. I only use them to write on my calendar so they do not get abused, and since I color code and have to write small, it is important to me that they work well. I should have spent the extra few dollars and purchased the Sharpie markers. A few of the markers were falling apart (when you opened the cap, the actual marker opened as well exposing the ink well or cushion). After writing with the markers a few times, the point did not stay sharp or write as fine point. Since I have to write small and legibly for all to be able to read in calendar boxes, this is important. Stay with Sharpies. They are a much better product.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sadly inconsistent, February 23, 2011

I was very hopeful for this marker set, and impressed with its presentation and packaging. It has great fold out packaging, making all colors easily accessible and organized.

That's where my good impression ended.

Perhaps it's because I have, for 20 years, worked with professional artists' mediums, but I am accustomed to consistency and accuracy in color swatching for my inks and paints. The color swatching for these pens is "off", to say the least. Do not trust the lid to equal the shade of the ink in the pen. For some colors, it was quite accurate; for others, not at all (and I was tempted to switch some of the lids to better match the colors inside). If you get these pens, create a test-sheet on pure white paper, so you can have a better color map for the pens.

As I tested each color, I found the consistency of the tips of the pens to be lacking. Some gave me a heavy, thick line, and others a very thin one. Some ebbed and flowed with the ink distribution. (With same angles and pressures applied.) This can be problematic while working on a project.

The ink levels/dryness also varied a LOT. Some pens gave a heavy consistent ink line, while others seemed dry right from the start. Others gave something in between, as the ink levels came and went. The lighter colors seemed to be lacking in ink distribution more than the darker, richer colors, but even that wasn't consistent. Again, if you end up with these, a test-sheet of paper will remind you which colors are heavier in distribution than others.

I ran these pens through the wringer, using them heavily to see how they lasted, and again, the life of each pen seemed to differ greatly from the others (but the dryer beginners did die faster, which I expected). None lasted as long as competitors' brands that I have used.

If you need some pens for a quick, disposable or of lesser-importance project, then these might be a good choice (if they are cheap enough). But if you're looking for quality pens for a project that holds any weight, then there are better choices.

I'm disappointed that I have to write this review as is. I was very hopeful that these would be a quality product. I would not purchase these, except maybe for a child who was doing a quick science fair poster or something along that line.

Markers work well for a variety of projects. Great color selection and nice storage container to keep markers all together. Price was right, too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great range of colors enclosed in a nifty little "case"! Good enough to compete with Sharpies!, May 2, 2011
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I decided to put BIC's Mark-It color collection of 36 fine point markers to the test with my latest display at my school, and so far, they've performed as well as my favored Sharpies do!

When I first got this nifty little set of markers, I made small color charts using scraps from adhesive mailing labels, and stuck the charts onto the plastic either above or below where the markers are held in place by the plastic "clips" molded into the case. The case itself, for the packaging that these come in, isn't going to last you longer than the markers will, as far as durability is concerned, but it is smartly designed so that it holds the markers in place without them shifting around on you. So, first star for BIC.

The markers themselves have a nice range of colors, and, cutesy names notwithstanding, each one does actually give you a different shade or hue from the others. There are no colors fully repeated here, just a nice, wide range of permanent colors. The caps give you an idea of what colors are enclosed within, but, being an artist myself, I've had way too many experiences where the encasing material just can't seem to be produced in a color close enough to give you a real idea of what the particular medium will produce, so a self-made color chart is always the safest way to go, in my opinion.

I've only just started using these markers, and the project I'm currently using them on doesn't necessarily require the use of permanent ink, but in order to not have to worry about the ink running, I decided to use these markers in lieu of standard water-based markers, which makes me feel secure that the art that I'm creating won't be destroyed by drips of water. The colors in this set are really beautiful, and have reliably complemented every piece of craft or construction paper that I've applied them to to make my ocean scene.

So far, I couldn't be happier with the results that I've gotten from these markers. The fine tip gives me a fine enough line for small details, while I'm able to get an adequately wide fill area by using the side of the same tip to color in larger, wider swaths of my work. I thought for sure that Sharpie was going to be the only brand that I gave my heart to, but BIC is stepping up to the plate here as a more than adequate competitor! If you're looking for a brand that will compare and compete with Sharpie with no regrets on your part for giving them a chance, BIC is worth a try! So far, so great!

3.0 out of 5 stars good medium weight tip, great bold color, not for delicate work, May 26, 2011

Great markers at a much better price than any of the stores I looked in. Amazing selection of beautiful bold colors. "Fine point" is good for some writing and drawing, but still a bit too broad and bleedy for delicate projects. Because of this and the absence of any really light colors (even the light colors come out pretty dark on paper), I am still searching for a set with finer points and some paler colors. Still, I feel this is a good set to round out a larger marker collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars WAY better then Sharpie!!!!!, December 8, 2010
First I must say Bic Mark-It's fine tip markers are far superior to Sharpies. While I love Sharpies range of colors, I HATE using them because of their lack of archivalness, within a couple of years they begin fading and often get a ugly hue effect around the colors. Whereas Bic Mark-Its have an almost identical color scheme but are made with an acid free formula. I use these in my visual journals. If archivalness is important to you go with Bic. I must say though I do not like Bic Mark-It's Extra fine point. I bought two six packs and there were two dried out. On the other hand I have recent bought two 36 counts and one 24 count of the fine points and have had no issues with dried out markers with the fine points. I stocked up during a deal and opened each pack and tested each marker. I LOVE THIS PRODUCT and truly hope they are around for a long time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great markers for inking in color as well as labelling, August 14, 2009
By
I bought these because we needed some permanent markers for labelling some things. In fact I think I might use them more for inking in some of my drawing projects. I create finely detailed "doodles" and normally keep them in must the black ink from my .005 pen. I tried filling in one of them with these markers and it blends in beautifully. It's a little tricky filling in small areas with them and I have to barely touch the spot I want but it blends in nicely, no lines, streaking, etc. As someone who cannot afford the Prismacolor inks these will do well in my small artwork.

5.0 out of 5 stars US Made color amaze, February 3, 2012
By
OK I'm a Sharpie nut. LOVE THEM, but boy the price has really been creeping up there. I needed a huge color pallete to work with some plastic films I need to color (just trying to make guitar picks). Man the sharpies were just way to much money for a trial project. Then I stumbled across these. Hmmm more colors, less money, US made. Well I went for it and I'm really glad I did. The colors are vibrant, the tips are well made and not mushy. The case actually holds them and is reusable, reclosable, and functional. I can't attest to the lifespan as I'm only using them to color small guitar picks, but I suspect that I will get a very satisfying lifespan out of them. Only downside is I got to keep them hidden as the rest of the family likes them too and they seem to walk off with them and then "forget" to put them back.
