4.0 out of 5 stars Classic pen does everything it needs to do
My brother recently purchased this package of Bic Cristals (and I purchased the similar 12-pack set of Bic Shimmers) to share with me. I am a long-time Cristal user. It is very basic and simple but always works well, down to the last millimeter of ink. Whether you press very heavily or lightly when you write, it will be nothing but smooth writing. 3.0 out of 5 stars what happened to Bic?
I used to use these pens when I was in school and they were great (I used the blue and black ones, not red). But I just bought a pack of these and they don't seem to work well at all, ink not flowing that well and for some reason, the ink color is VERY light. I don't understand what happened to Bic, unless they've become one of the many companies today who outsource...

You don't need to "warm it up" by drawing doodling on another sheet of paper first. There is not that much more in the way of new things that I can say about this pen; other reviewers have done a great job discussing the quality of the pens.

My only gripe--and the reason why I give this bundle a 4 of 5 stars--is that Amazon has currently priced these at over $19 for a dozen packs of 10; that's about $1.60 per pack. I often purchase these same individual packs at Rite Aid and Wal-Mart for $0.85; they even retail at $1.39 or less on various web sites.

Bottom line: I can't say enough good things about all Bic Cristal pens, but be sure to look into the prices, as you may be paying a hefty premium for these pens on Amazon if they are not more discounted.

3.0 out of 5 stars what happened to Bic?, May 28, 2009
I used to use these pens when I was in school and they were great (I used the blue and black ones, not red). But I just bought a pack of these and they don't seem to work well at all, ink not flowing that well and for some reason, the ink color is VERY light. I don't understand what happened to Bic, unless they've become one of the many companies today who outsource their manufacturing and so make products of substantially reduced quality. My Paper Mate red pens are far better and the ink a proper red color. I don't think I'll be buying Bic pens again.

5.0 out of 5 stars The pen that no one steals!, June 27, 2011
This pen is what it is....cheap and it works! The best thing is that no one steals this pen. I don't think Bic knew years ago when they developed this pen that they were setting the standard.

I am a manager in an office; it is like any other office all over the world. We buy pens, then the workers steal the pens. I have tried all types but to no end. I have had mild success with the Bic Round Stick but again they stay around only slightly longer than other more expensive types of pens. However, upon trying this pen I have reached success; I cannot give these pens away! Don't get me wrong, they work great and don't leak. But when people come asking for pens I offer these. The typical response is a frown or a scowl like the smell of spoiled food and then they just walk away. I walk around the office like a Santa Claus of sorts putting handfuls of these in everyone's pen holders. Weeks later when all other types of pens have disappeared these pens remain.

If you are in a similar situation as me buy these pens!

5.0 out of 5 stars I've been using these since the '70s, November 16, 2010

These blue BIC pens go back a long way with me. We always had lots of these lying around the house in desk drawers, on counter tops, everywhere. Blue is my favorite color of ink. I use blue almost exclusively and these BIC pens are always my first choice. They seem to last a long time and they write cleanly and smoothly.

I've never been one to use fancy wancy pens. You know - the kind that come in a pen set and cost a lot of money. I don't care what a pen looks like, as long as it writes. For those of you who are conservative and always play it safe and by the book, go ahead and use that fancy pen you have at a job interview. No sense in taking even the smallest chance because, after all, the interviewer might judge you based on the type of pen you're using. Yes, it's true. Oh, and if you're a guy, never wear a red tie. It can cost you a job, even if that's the only time you ever wear red. Never wear red on the job, either. That's a no-no. Your boss will jump to the conclusion that you're a wild and flamboyant person. Oh, and NEVER eat alone on your lunch hour. It's bad for your career. Also...ALWAYS participate in those potluck lunches, even if your co-workers use ingredients you don't like. If you don't, it'll hurt you (lack of participation in company activities). ALWAYS eat those Dunkin Donuts that the apple polisher brought in. Oh, and the bagels too.

Now that I've scared you literally stiff with the nightmare that is stuffy corporate America, I highly recommend buying these highly reliable BIC pens and using them at your interview when you're going for that job in the healthcare field. Just using these pens will loosen you up, let alone the fact that you're guaranteed a job. I guarantee you that the interviewer won't care one bit what kind of pen you're using.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Old Favorite, October 11, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Everyone knows these pens.

I grew up using them, and the blue and black were always around the house. Remember when they were spelled Crystal instead of Cristal? A friend of mine used to carry a red one with her wherever she went. We always wanted green but they weren't sold around here. I always notice these pens when they show up in movies or tv shows, too. In Sixteen Candles, Samantha throws one at her brother, and also uses one to take a quiz.

Yes well the pens are still basically the same as always. They write the same. I noticed a long time ago that the more you use it, the better it seems to write. I'm not sure if that's true with the new pack I bought, because I've only just started using one of them. But that's how they used to be. As the ink gets near the middle part, the pen writes smoother. It was always fun to see the ink go down. Oh, the nerdy joys of pen collecting.

5.0 out of 5 stars an excellent pen, November 21, 2007

It seems as if I've always used these very good black ink pens by Bic; I remember writing many a paper for college using pens like these before computers came along. Bic calls these pens "medium point" but the writing is clear and easy to read on the page. The black ink lasts for at least a couple of months--unless you write a lot with these every day in which case they will obviously last a shorter amount of time.

The pens are compact and easy to carry with you because they are so lightweight. The pens are made of plastic with a see through ink tube inside them; and the plastic barrel is indeed a hexagon shape (meaning that it has six sides). The advantage of the see through ink tube is that you can tell when the pen is running low on ink--a great feature!

As nerdy as it sounds, gentlemen can easily carry one or two in their shirt pockets. I would keep the cap on, of course.

Actually, I would keep the cap on at all times when not using this pen. The ink, even though it's still inside the pen, can dry out rather quickly without the cap being on it. Moreover, you don't want ink to leak out of the pen and make ink stains.

Overall, if you want a very inexpensive pen that still gives you high quality writing ink, you really can't go wrong with these pens by Bic. I have used them literally for decades with great satisfaction.

I highly recommend these pens for anyone wanting an inexpensive but good quality black ink pen.

5.0 out of 5 stars BIC stiks, November 15, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
These are the BIC pens I grew up with. While these are not gel pens, it is these pens that were the original "write almost anywhere." These pens do not seem to have changed since my middle school years. This is a good thing, I mean how many times have you bought something only to find out that it has been "updated" from what you remember to some inferior product. These pens are not like that. Good job BIC.

4.0 out of 5 stars Only Pen I Use, January 24, 2012

This style pen is the best Bic makes. No wonder it has been around forever. Smooth, effortless flow is better than far more expensive pens, even those of Bic itself. The price is an added plus.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cheaper than the store, December 21, 2011

These are just what the doctor ordered on red pens. A great tack on gift or stuffer for a teacher, incredible value and saves $3 versus store price and/or quantity.
