Great pen,

I first bought the pen at a pharmacy and simply loved it. I had difficulty finding it (the pharmacy discontinued it). I googled and found it on Amazon. Writes extremely well. The 0.7 is great but I prefer the 0.5 better. The only thing is - every now and then, the pen's ink would explode on my hand. It happened about 1 in every 6 pens used. I initially thought it was the pressure from the airplanes as I travel a lot, but it happened at work with the pens left at the desk.. A bad flaw. But it is the best pen I have used (other than the pricey Mont Blancs and Waterman...)

Writes quite well, but can leak very easily if cap comes off! Ruins clothing!,

This pen ruined my favorite pair of shorts! Seriously.
Yes, it writes nicely, although maybe a little too fluidly. But it has a tiny cap that doesn't snap on as easily as most gel pens I have used. I much prefer my old Pentel Engergel. I had only bought the bic z4+ because I was at a store that did not sell the Pentel brand. I have been using gel pens for my current job for over 6 years and the following has never happened until I used the bic z4+ : This Z4+ ended up destroying my favourite pair of shorts, because the cap had not snapped on properly. And even though the pen was not "leaking," per se (it was not broken), it still leaks if you have the cap off and it is pressing against something. In this case, that something was the bottom of my pocket. It ended up leaking all over my pocket. When I got home my leg was black underneath my shorts. I couldn't believe how much it leaked, especially considering the pen had not broken! I couldn't fully get the stain out with the two kinds of stain removers i tried in two seperate washes. And unfortunately the stain removers faded my shorts. Or one of them did. So I'm not too happy with Bic right now. Or Oxiclean & Spray n Wash Oxymax (the two stain removers i tried). Grr! I wonder if i can sue Bic over this? If you think you can be really careful to make sure the cap is always on, then by all means use this pen, but otherwise I would use the Pentel Energel. My company recieved these pens for advertising. I love the way it writes. It's very smooth. I keep a bunch in my desk drawer, but they always seem to go missing because everyone loves writing with these too.

Nice Aesthetics But...,

I love prowling the aisles of Home Depot and the stationery department of just about any store. These Bic Needle Point Rollers caught my attention when I caught them on sale for a tremendous price. For me the most important attribute here is the fine point. If one has to record information, whether numbers or letters, in small spaces this Bic might perform admirably. I'm old enough to remember using an ink fountain pen in parochial school and find the look of the Bic's writing reminiscent of those old fountain pens. Unfortunately there's that same scratchy feel also reminiscent of some of my less expensive pens. As I write with this pen, there's a sensation of scratching on the paper, not the smooth, roller glide I was expecting. On the positive side, the pen is attractive, and has a very comfortable grip. The ink supply is visible at the very top of the pen, but it's such a small window as to be marginally helpful. If a precise, narrow tip is more important to you than the sensation of writing with a feather quill or an actual needle, then the Bic Needle Point Roller may be for you.

This pen works great, the ink flows smoothly, the point isn't too thick and it doesn't bleed. It keeps up while writing fast as it doesn't skip. Good Product Overall.

I first got my hands on this pen when my sister came to work with me. We would steal one pen off each others desk to use it. It's the best pen I have ever used, and I order them by the dozen. I'm hoarding them for fear that Bic will discontinue them. I've let a few people "try" mine they are instantly hooked. Now I give packs of these away as gifts. They are VERY difficult to find at office supply stores and the big ones around me don't carry them, but it's easier to order them on Amazon anyway. Oh, and I don't like the .7mm at all- too fat, just not the same. The .5 is the only way to go!

I have to admit to not having tried a BIC pen for more than 20+ years. I think I got turned off with the stix pen way back when. I have been a dedicated fountain pen user and seldom use a roller, gel or ballpoint pen unless absolutely necessary. The one thing that I do find a gel or roller pen useful for is mixed media art journaling. I need a pen that writes smoothly over many textures and surfaces without skipping or clogging. I noticed the Z4 pen in our local drugstore one day and decided I'd see what it was like. I also bought a Uniball Signo 207 that day. The Z4 is the only one that made the cut. I think this is an excellent pen - smooth writing -over acrylics, watercolors and a variety of mixed media surfaces that would make any other pen skip and clog like crazy. Yippee Skippee - a pen that works well for me - other than my beloved fountain pens that is!

Writes smoothly even at extreme angles. Fast-drying ink. A pleasure to use.
Can't find them in any local stores so Amazon to the rescue.

My wife got me the Bic Z4 when I asked her to pick me up any old pen from the grocery. After using the Z4 I immediately realized that it was not just any old pen but wrote very boldly and very sharp. Not to mention the pen lasted forever. When it was finally time to get a new set the grocery was out of them so I turned to Amazon and got a great price on for what for me will likely be a couple years (at least) of pen usage. Love this pen.

Combines the dependability and smoothness of a gel ink with the advantages of a ballpoint. Always writes and doesn't bleed. Absolutely the perfect pen for me. Keep in mind that it requires a low pressure to write, so is not suitable for writing checks. Also, while it doesn't bleed, it IS free-flowing ink, and so there is a minimum write width. As such it does not write very very small.
There are flaws in any pen design, at least pens that are affordable. This is the perfect pen to keep around for most of your needs. It's a real joy. But keep a couple nicer ballpoints around for writing checks or fine pen work (but make sure they don't run dry on you!) |
