From a true rider of BIC surfboard,
By EE "EE Man" (CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bic Sports 6'7 Surfboard (Misc.)
I can see that all other reviewers have never ridden this board before writing their review. They just assume this must be a beginner's board for this kind of price. The truth is, once you actually ride it, you will find this is a great board.
First, there is one reviewer said that this board has too much float and you could not duck dive with it. I bet he never rides this board, or he is very light weight. I weight 175lb and I found this board sinks into the water all the time. Duck dive is not a problem at all. Other reviewers said this board is only for kook. The reality is no matter what board you use, if you dare to compete with them for waves, you are a kook. They just don't want you to get in the water to compete with them for waves. They want you to pay lots of money for a custom board and get frustrated so you can quit surfing as soon as possible. The truth is, if you don't look closely at the board (in 5 ft), you can not tell it is not a custom board. In the water, it just performs as good as a custom board. I guss many of the other reviewers are surfboard shapers or surf shop owners. They want to make more money from you. Now, let me tell you why I think this board is great. I have another exopy surfboard. If you did enough study, you would know the epoxy board supposed to be durable. Well, it is not! The other day I and another two guys were surfing on a big wave toward the shore. After we dropped into the water, the next two big waves drove our boards to the rocks along the shore. All three board (two epoxy one fiber glass) were seriously damaged. If you ask around, you will find this kind of things happen a lot. The glass on the surfboard is very fragile! It break easily when hits a rock. What is good for this BIC board is that it really durable!! It is made by some kind of plastic. The material feel like the plastic pipe in your house but the surface is smooth to cut through the wave. When it hits to a rock, it just get a very small mark. It will not break. It is much more flexible than glass on epoxy or fiber glass board so it won't break that easily. During the big day, you don't have to worry that much about your surfboard. You can focus more on your own safety rather than the safety of your board. Another great thing for this board is the price. I got this board from Green Room Surf. They have very good prices for BIC surfboards. I picked it up from their store in Newport Beach to save the shipping. Talk to Greg. His service is really good and he won't push you to buy a more expensive surfboard like other surf shop. If I need to buy another surfboard again, I will buy BIC surfboard. It is cheap and maintenance free. You can ask other surfers how much money they have spent to fix their surfboard and you will appreciate the meaning of "maintenance free". Overall, I give this surfboard "five stars". It has the same performance as a fiber glass board without the maintenance problem. And the price is good!

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Bic Sports 6'7 Surfboard (Misc.)
i have surfed on this board to try it out for my shop. i would recomend it to begginers because it has alot of float but is still more manuverable than a longboard. i would not recomend this to anyone who is intermediate or above, because of the float. this board never goes underwater. you can not oduckdive or anything. i found it hard to get out in big waves because the thing floats like a lifejacket. this or any other bic board is good for begginers but noone else.

This as well as other BICs are extremely durable. Selling them as new or renting them, I've seen them withstand serious beatings. They're well worth the money if you plan on learning and passing it on to a friend or family member. These aren't high performance however, and slightly heavier than other boards.

Excellent beginner's board,

The Bic 6'7" is an excellent beginner's board. I learned how to surf about a month and a half ago on an 8'6" used custom board. I ended up beating up the board pretty badly by pearling it and having it hit random things while I was trying to fit in my sedan. So, for about the three weeks I had it, I became much more adept at repairing dings on the board than actually riding it. I grew pretty frustrated by the unwieldiness of the large board as well as the high-maintenance (which I wasn't used to as a beginner), so I decided to get a Bic surfboard. Like what others have said, this board floats very well and is fairly wide and voluminous for a shortboard. Weak paddlers and heavier riders should benefit from the extra float. However, the board does not have so much float that you cannot duckdive. I am a relatively weak 5'11" 160lb person, but I have no trouble duckdiving the board. The width of the board also provides greater stability when trying to stand up, compared to a "typical" shortboard of the same length.
The greatest benefit of the Bic surfboards are that they are extremely durable. I have dropped the board onto a curb from a height of 5ft on its rail and there is a small indentation. No leaks or anything close to a break in the plastic. I have also surfed it onto some pretty sharp rocks without any cracks or leaks. There are only long, shallow surface scratches. The only negative from the board is that it is somewhat slow and hard to turn, when compared to the few custom shortboards I've ridden. So, it seems somewhere between a mini-mal and a shortboard in terms of performance. However, that might have to do with my own poor surfing ability than the board itself. Regardless, I plan to use this board forever--for slow breaking waves, for surfing treacherous conditions for the first time, and as a future teaching tool.

Hello, growing up in So. Cal. I have been surfing for over twenty years. Surfing is just like alot of other sports, the quality of the equipment you buy really does define the performance, not to mention the learning curve. Also being a skateboarder from way back, nothing bothered me more than seeing good intentioned parents at Wal Mart around Christmas time looking for the skateboard that little Timmy has been asking for since last January. I would often times have to stop and say a few words on Timmy's behalf. I would say " They dont sell skateboards here, they sell toy skateboards." I know many of you reading this right now know exactly what I'm talking about. Have you ever tried to ride one of those pieces of crap? Next to impossible, inferier wheels, trucks that dont return to center, hell I've actually seen the trucks installed backwards before. I would politly ask the parents to visit a local skate shop and look at some well designed and built piece of sporting equipment which is a well made skateboard. Not only will it be easier to learn on , but it will last longer and work alot better. That is my analogy for these "Bic Surfb oards", these are toy surfboards, NOT highly tuned pieces of sporting equipment. Please take my advice and buy a real used surfboard to learn on. Once you get the surfing bug (and you will) you can invest in a new board, and hand down the old one to Timmy.
P.S. And besides you'll look like a major kook walking down to the water with one of these toys under your arm.

salty dog,
This review is from: Bic Sports 6'7 Surfboard (Misc.)
I have ridden, shaped, and owned many boards from 9 foot guns to 10 foot longboards and everything in between. I have owned two bic boards. the 6 10 and the 9 0. I would consider both of these boards excellent boards. bic has two styles of construction. half their boards are constructed with more performance in mind-lighter and more refined. the two boards i have are in this catagory. the 6 10 is a very versatal board. paddles well, is loose, lite, fast and durable. i would consider it an excellent travel board. i have ridden it from knee high to double overhead indonesia. the only complaint i have is that it doesn't handle too well in extremely steep bigger surf just like any wide tailed board with a lot of rail curve.
As for the longboard, It is probably one of my favorite boards and performs extremely well as a high performance longboard. it loves big playful surf and also performs well in smaller waves. it is not a cruiser longboard like their 10 0. both of these boards have refined rails, good bottom contours, are lightweight and extremely durable. My only complaint is that I buckled my longboard and they are hard to find in my area. One more complaint- i wish they made a gun for larger, hollow waves- i would buy one in a second. Body weight plays huge influnce on surfboard function. what performs well for one person could seem like a slug to someone lighter. and vise versa the same board in pumping conditions could perform even better for someone with more weight on them. I weight 170 and would recomend these to anyone 160 and higher. They would be good beginner and intermediate boards for lighter riders. just like any board, every board has it's function and these boards perform very well in a variety of conditions. I will always try and keep these boards in my quiver.

Recently surfed chest-head high surf in Eleuthera on a Bic 7'-6",
This review is from: Bic Sports 6'7 Surfboard (Misc.)
Hello All,
I just got back from a x-mas trip to Eleuthera in the Bahamas. The house we rented had two Bic 7'6" fun shapes available. I had never ridden a Bic before 12/26 but the waves were head high, wind was off-shore and I didn't care if anyone called me a kook for riding a Walmart special. I needed some waves! The board performed great for the wave at surfer's beach which is a long left reef and rock bottom break. I am 5'10" and 165lbs and the length of the board worked well for the outside section which is bigger and slower than the inside which breaks 2x as fast as the water is shallower. It turned well enough for a few cutbacks on the outside section and few up the face floaters on the inside. I imagine the 6'7" BIC would perform just as well if not better than the 7'6". I would reccomend this board for beginners to intermediates who want something that paddles well and catches a lot of waves.

Pool Toy,

This review is from: Bic Sports 6'7 Surfboard (Misc.)
This board looks like something you could buy at wal-mart for the kids to play with in the pool, I bought one as my first board for the cold waters of gloucester MA because i knew i'd hardly ever use it annd there are no surf shops in that area. when i did find a shop with boards they were upwards of $600
I now live in Huntington Beach CA, and I feel as if I'd get beat up if i dragged that board to the beach. HOWEVER....... I now call it the "unbreakable loaner board" and let my friends use it when they come here on vacation, it floats great, and is rather heavy which makes it super easy to stand up on, Its a great board to learn on if you dont mind being ridiculed by other surfers. its not worth 300 dollars though. ESPECIALLY not when you can get a used Merrick @ play it again sports for like 150 bucks

The Bic 7'3 to 6'7,
By Ldog (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bic Sports 6'7 Surfboard (Misc.)
I am a kook. I will always be a kook. I own about 7 surfboards mostly second-hand. Two, an ancient 6'0 fiberglass homemade job with a hand-painted dolphin on the bottom (to scare away the sharks), and a 7'10 Becker(sarcastically "Dude, awesome Becker!") are in various states of delam-delapidation which are waiting for me to repair. "Ride me, Biaatch!" they seem to say as I skillfully pull my 7'3" Bic from betwixt their dusty vertical graveyard.
Look here now, it's a great board. Well, because they can take some abuse. Probably right up to being run over by a truck. There's the magic, right there. The fins are a different attachment set-up, meaning I haven't yet strolled into a surf shop to look for replacements, and you do have to endure the taunts of some of our local "pros" who are looking for some "clean" (i.e. uncluttered, sparse, etc.) line-ups to "carve" some "gnarley" (really, the eighties?) turns and "lacerate with extreme prejudice" the backside of some "mossback" "tanning" in the impact zone. My bro has a 10' that he never takes out but is eminently rideable. But enough about me. These boards, as I will have you believe, are easier to ride than their fiberglass counterparts. A 7'3 Bic WILL! be easier to ride than it's cousin the 7'3 fragile (that's Italian) Stewart. That is, if you can ride at all. Believe it or not, if you're new to the sport don't feel ashamed to take it into the whitewater and surf the misty whiteness to get the feel of it. My surf tag was "Chef" because I was always master of the "soup". Obviously, don't take it out to the Hook or 1st. Peak Pleasure point on an overhead day. Get out there and have fun with your bouyant, well-nigh indestructible hunk of plastic heaven!

Ummm...did anyone bother to ride this board?,

Just my kooky two cents worth- it'd be good if reviewers felt connected enough to reality to actually try the products they are reviewing. I read through several reviews in order to get advice on retail philosophies (Juan Carlos seemed like a good dude to have a beer with) and the nuances of being a poser. Haven't seen this much love since I took up rock climbing all those years ago. As a recreational sports-person, I'd like a good quality product that I can afford to actually use. If anyone out there has actually ridden the BIC boards, other than BIC employees, please post a review so I can make an educated decision. Thanks!
