Well, I must start out by saying that I have always preferred gel pens, and these BIC pens are among the best that I have used. They make a nice, bold line that looks bright and clear, and makes your writing more eye-catching. I really enjoy using them, and don't hesitate to recommend them. Do yourself a favor, and get yourself some really good pens, some BIC Triumph 537 gel pens!

Unlike other ballpoint pens that I've used this BIC has a very smooth flowing ink that makes the script look very much as if it had been done by a fountain pen. That's a plus for me as my preference for writing thank you notes is a fountain pen.

The easy grip made of rubber is also certainly an improvement over other pens. Seldom do I clip a pen into a shirt pocket, but nonetheless the addition of the silver clip does give the pen a rather sleek streamlined look.

As to whether or not I'll invest in a new cartridge I'm not sure - will have to wait and see just how long a cartridge lasts. Will add to these comments when that time comes.

BIC pretty much has left a "mark" (pun intended) in the writing utensil market. If it isn't razors then it is pens/pencils. This pen is a sleek gel pen with black ink. I am not sure what the real selling pitch of this pen is supposed to be. However, I have been using this pen at work for the past two weeks. The pen is very comfortable and ergonomically correct. I have used many pens that are awkward and vex the hand after a bit of use. I am pleased to say this pen is very comfortable to use.

In contrast, the ink is a bit erratic, since it is gel it at times dries quickly and other times takes a bit longer to dry. This can result in smudges on the paper, one's hands and in a few occasions' clothes. With regards to the clothes, I was writing and the cuff of my shirt touched the paper before the ink dried and a nice stain on my sleeve. Lovely. The ink will also bleed and at times doesn't write smoothly, yet it times it promotes beautiful penmanship. This boggles my mind.

I wouldn't go as far to say this pen is useless or that I won't continue to use it, I will, at least until the ink runs out. I cannot say I will be buying refills for this pen. I have never been a fan of gel pens just because they can be sloppy. This new pen by BIC hasn't worked all the quirks out, so my view of gel pens haven't changed too much, but the ergonomics of this pen are great. I suppose for the price for two pens it isn't terrible, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

BIC Triumph retractable is a good pen and I use them daily. I loose pens all the time and these balance well in the hand. It has a clip to hold in the pocket, I lost a very expensive pen and this one does the job I need.

The Triumph 537 comes in both capped roller ball and the newer retractable designs, and I'm happy to say that the retractable writes every bit as bold and smooth. It has a rubberized grip area and its plastic parts have a luxurious silky feel to them, which makes the pen a joy to hold. Writing with it is a joy as well, the .7mm width give a nice bold line without skipping on or digging into the paper.

This is a disposable pen so the style, while not bad, is not going to be mistaken for an expensive refillable pen. Not really con, but an observation since the photo of the package shows its classier clip side rather that the graphic coated clear sides which are useful for seeing the remaining ink levels, but does degrade its appearance somewhat.

While it may not be stolen from its looks alone, once someone feels and uses it, I'm sure they will fall in love with it... So you may be interested to know that it's sold in 4 and 12 packs as well, both of which have a cheaper per unit price.

I am picky about the pens I use and for many years now have preferred pens that use gel ink. Finding a good one can be a problem because some -- even those that are on the expensive end -- clog or emit blobs of ink or dry out too soon. Another issue is that many have separate caps, which I often lose or forget to put back on the pen, both of which shorten the pen's life. And most of these pens are disposable so I've recently begun to feel guilty because it seems wasteful to use a bit of plastic for a few weeks and then just toss it into a landfill.

That's why I was eager to try the BIC Triumph, which I have been using for several days now and like very much. So far it has exceeded expectations. It writes very smoothly and feels like it glides along the paper. It has a retractable tip so there is no cap to lose and its refillable so I won't be throwing it away in a couple of weeks.

As I write this I realize that some people may think it silly to be so interested in the performance of a pen because it seems insignificant. In my defense, however, I will say that I do a great deal of writing and so what may be a minor matter to some is a pretty big deal to me. If you also do a lot of writing and enjoy using a pen that feels good in your hand and glides smoothly across the paper, I think you will agree with me that this pen is worth talking about.

I am giving this overwise average pen four instead of three stars because it flows smoothly, has a protective plastic bead over the point that protects the ink from drying out before you get a chance to use the pen, but most of all, because, at $2.99 for a pkg of two, it is a great bargain.

Yes, the ink flows quite smoothly, making a wonderful sketching tool, able to record images as quickly as you want to, and I like to draw FAST. However, don't try to do a watercolor or other wash over it, since it is not waterfast--use a waterproof pen. Otherwise, it is good as a utility pen to take "on the road" with your pads of paper. It's not only good for writing notes, but doodle-icious when you are on hold or waiting. (BUT, I am really upset that, unlike another reviewer, the pen does NOT allow me to draw tattoos on my skin. Pffft!)

As mentioned, the gel ink flows easily, therefore it is perfect to keep next to your phone so you don't have to say, "just a minute while I find a pen that works"! Maybe it flows TOO fast for my writing, it's not a pen that helps my writing legibily. My handwriting isn't terrific, but there are a few types of pens that actually make it look better. My sister and I both tried the pen and it like how light it feels in my hand, but she likes a bigger barrel because she "uses a death grip".

Good pen overall. Except for the tattoo thing. I hope this review is helpful to you.

Wonder if I received a defective package of pens. I took the pens out of their package and attempted to write on a pad of paper. The ball of the pen skips and looks like it is dragging a piece of lint, but there is no lint. I wiped the ball of the pen with a clean cloth, but it made no difference. The pen continues to skip, and then after awhile will make haphazard marks.
I tried the second pen and had the same experience.

I have always had a good product with Bic pens and have bought and used them for years. I particularly love the gel pens I have used in the past. I have tried everything I can think of to make these pens work, and if anyone has a suggestion, please let me know. As they are, I cannot use them.

DO NOT BUY - BUY BIC VELOCITY GEL PENS INSTEAD. I just got a package in the mail from Bic. In it were replacements for the Bic Triumph 537 0.7mm black gel-ink pens I returned to Bic just a few days ago because they skipped terribly. Now, please understand that I'm a big fan of Bic pens. I bought 500 Bic Clic pens for our Club with our name and web address imprinted on them. Bic makes great products. So, when my old cache of Pilot Gel Ink pens was getting low, I thought confident in buying a dozen of these 537's.

I tried six of the pens from the box I bought here on Amazon. All six skipped, and they also felt like there was a defect in the nib - either that, or the ink had contaminants. They were not smooth writing at all - that is, they were very un-Bic-like. But, kudos to Bic for replacing my dozen pens quickly.

So, I have to assume that there is a defect in these pens. I'm not sure if that statement applies to the 0.5mm fine point or the blue-ink 537's. All I know is that the black 0.7mm medium point 537 pens were bad. Also, I was surprised when Bic didn't send back the same exact pen. They sent back their Velocity Gel pens instead as replacements (same medium point and black gel ink). So, I assume that the 537's are either defective (and off the shelf at Bic) or they're discontinued. Regardless, if you're considering the purchase of these Bic Triumph 537 pens, please buy the Bic Velocity Gel pens instead. That's right, I'm recommending a different Bic product. I still have faith in Bic products - every company makes mistakes. I applaud Bic for doing the right thing. Thanks for reading my review.

I use a special (another brand) gel type pen to write checks with that are not washable by check washers but it is not good to really write with in your checkbook or letters, etc. because it is not neat. That is why I like this new pen by Bic. It writes nice and clearly and does not smear or leave straggly like marks like some gel type pens I mentioned above. I do not know if you can use it for check writing (you can -- but can the check washers wash it?) but for everything else it is a pleasure to use. I don't know what else to say about a pen -- it is comfortable to use as well.
