I had high hopes for this product for pain relief on my arthritic knees and shoulder, but it did not relieve the pain, just created a new discomfort-an OMG, my skin is on fire feeling. When it first went on it felt cool, but quickly it started feeling like my skin had been lit on fire and it took quite some time for that feeling to go away. I guess in that sense it did take my mind off the pain, but it did not relieve the pain. I will give it to my BIL-he likes it!

The Biofreeze was highly recommended by my physical therapist and by another friend. I was skeptical because the active ingredient (menthol) is the same thats in Ben Gay and Tiger Balm. I found the rolling ball applicator to be inconsistent and hard to apply evenly to the small of my back. The results were not different from Ben-Gay or Tiger balm. Since Biofreeze is much more expensive than the former products, I give it a low rating. Notably, BenGAY Ultra strength has 10% menthol, 4% Camphor, and 30% methyl salivate, while Biofreeze has only 3.5% menthol as an active ingredient. I advise saving your money and buying something cheaper like BenGAy, Tiger Balm or a generic at your local store with more active ingredients.

I don't notice a discernible or minute decrease in pain. Anywhere. All this stuff does is make me smell like a 90 year old man for the rest of the day.

This is right off the Biofreeze 4 oz tube... Active Ingredients; Menthol UPS 4%. That's it! That's the only active ingredient! ......... Here's Bengay's Active Ingrediants; Methyl Salicylate 15%, Menthol 10%. .......Go with the Bengay.

This is a great product but it's one of those cases where you want to still keep shopping around. It only has 3.5% of the active ingredient menthol where Cryoderm has 10% (and you can feel the difference both in intensity and duration). If you read the label Biofreeze has parabens, blue dye #1 & yellow dye #5 (both banned in some other countries) and nothing for pain or skin beyond the menthol yet Cryoderm has MSM (good for skin), arnica (also helps with pain and swelling), some folk remedy herb I had never heard of and no bad chemicals like parabens. The price is about identical. I also tried two other brands: SubZero was about as effective as Biofreeze (only it had no parabens) and Tiger Balm was so weak it was worthless. I probably would never have written a review for a mediocre product that works but I got an annoying spam email from the seller asking for a review, so here it is.

Can't tell that it does anything. Bought it to help deal with muscle aches before and after long runs. Do not recommend.

I suffer from sciatica and have for over a year now. Since my back surgery, I have had sciatic nerve issues that are persistent; sometimes much worse than others. I hate taking pills, albeit on rare occasion I need to. I also perform daily stretches to help relax the muscles around the sciatic nerve in my lower back and down both of my legs. Previously, I attempted to use Ben-Gay as well as Icy Hot, but both products left me wondering if my flesh was melting off, in turn causing me to scream while running for the shower in hopes of not seeing my skin fall off of me (I am sensitive to these products).

A co-worker recommended I try BioFreeze so I did. Since I have been using this product, BioFreeze has not once felt like a burning feeling and has always been very cool on the skin, especially when standing in front of a fan (euphoric feeling and total relief from any sciatic nerve pain). It is an outstanding product for my sciatica. I no longer have to take any daily pills unless absolute necessary (at best, once per week). I will state that it does not take much of the roll-on to get the effects. If you use too much, your roll-on bottle will run out since it is only 3 oz, but I truly believe it is well worth every penny!

Also, you roll it on your skin in a back and forth motion or up and down motion and do not actually roll it on in a circular motion. You can hold the bottle upside down and it does not leak so you can apply the product anywhere you can physically reach. I will also state that you can expect some of the (green) product to get on the rim of the bottle (where the cap goes on), but it is very easy to clean. Although the product goes on your skin green, again, it dries quickly and becomes colorless. Also, it has a menthol smell to it. For me, it is not a problem, but it could be for someone who is ultra sensitive to certain smells. It never drips when I put it on my skin and dries rather quickly (again, I stand in front of the fan to help the process and get the extra cooling sensation). I am curious about the BioFreeze spray too, so I purchased a bottle and will try it when it arrives. Worst case scenario, I know I can always rely on the roll-on if the spray is not as effective.

For those suffering from any type of pain, whether it be nerve, arthritis, or muscle related, I highly recommend trying this product. I cannot believe the results and I am truly happy that there is a product for my sensitive skin that will not melt my flesh and actually heal the pain for at least 8 hours after use (long-lasting).

Like other reviewers that rated the roll-on, I felt no sensation when I used it for my lower back. I've used the cream/gel Biofreeze before and loved it and thought I'd use the roll-on to save my hands from getting gooey. I'm throwing this bottle away and sticking with the gel.
