5.0 out of 5 stars Unlock your x2 or x3 to x4 with this motherboard, January 16, 2010

This review is from: BIOSTAR AM3/AM2+/AM2 DDR2 AMD 785G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard TA785GE 128M (Personal Computers)
This is my 2nd Biostar Motherboard, my 1st was a basic Biostar that I brought in a bundle with an Athlon II x3 425 cpu, I tried overclocking but my system would crash once I tryed to clock my cpu above 2.9 GHz infact the highest stable OC was 2.833 GHz from 2.7. This was highly disappointing and I felt my cpu had more performance than the entry level Biostar could handle so I checked the net for something with a little more performance girth. I not only found a motherboard that could handle overclocking my cpu I got a motherboard that turned my Bruce Banner (Athlon II x3 425 ) into a raging HULK known as the Phenom II x4 B25 with an ultra stable clock of 3.2 GHz on factory cooler now with 4 cores instead of 3, this motherboard not only holds a stable OC it has AMD's ACC feature which activates or unlocks locked cores. Bottom line here is if your in the market for a low cost high performance system that will allow you to play new games in high to highest settings
or multi task or watch HD videos or whatever, get the Athlon II x3 425 and the Biostar TA785GE 128M, then flash the Bios to unlock the ACC feature, turn your x3 into a QUAD core! and for a little under $150 for both you have a solid foundation for a budget monster PC( updated bios is on [...] download it to a floppy or a USB flash drive press F12 at the boot menu and flash the bios....real simple).

My spec are Quad core Phenom II B25 at 3.2 GHz, 9800gt 1GB DDR3, 4GBs of 667MHz OC to 750 MHz (done by mobo when you OC your cpu) on XP sp3 my bench marks for 3Dmark06 is 13100. To get this performance with the other brand would cost over $150 just for ther cpu. My money was very well spent, in 2010 I am refusing to overpay the fatboys for any product and I am not taking any shorts in quality in the exchange and I've been able to do that with this combo....Thanks for reading ;)

Installation was a breeze. Only thing needed was manually raising the RAM voltage in the BIOS from standard 1.8V to 2.05V because the OCZ RAM I used is made for 2.2V
Because it already worked on 1.8V I concluded that there was no need to go to the full 2.2V maybe this way saving the RAM from some heat stress.
For the rest everything worked right out of the box and Windows 7 installed flawlessly with all the hardware supported.
I'm not a gamer and chose this board because of the price and HD playback capability with onboard video output.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best AMD Board for the $$$$, March 1, 2010

This review is from: BIOSTAR AM3/AM2+/AM2 DDR2 AMD 785G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard TA785GE 128M (Personal Computers)
This board is great and I can only think of one thing to liken it to .... The Swiss Army Knife of moatherboards !!!

This board works great with the On Board Graphics for a low power, silent and cool home theater PC as I am currently using it. I have this board running with an Athlon X2 240, 1TB Segate Drive and 4 Gig of DDR2 800 Corsair Ram with VIsta Home Prem 64 Bit !

I am using no case fan, only the power supply to vent the case and it runs between 19 and 32 Degreess Celsius from idele to full load !

The Vista scoring is as follows

Processor 5.7
Ram 5.9
Graphics (Aero) 4.9
Graphics (Gaming) 4.1
Disk 5.9

Keep in mind those numbers are with NO overclock....

This is the best part of this board as it not only works well the way I am using it but will also work great in building a High Perfromance Gaming set up, as the board FULLY SUPPORTS OVERCLOCKING of almost everything you can imagine or desire !!!

Simply add fans and turn up the heat !

Or use it with DDR2 1066, a Phenom Quad and a Dedicated Graphics card for a real gaming system !

I would buy this board again and I would reccomend it to my family and friends without hesitation !
