5.0 out of 5 stars Stain Solver!

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly made and breaks easily
Unfortunately the "Made in the U.S.A." product has been in the repair shop twice in 3 years. The plastic which holds the hose is of poor quality and broke almost immediately. The dial for switching between floor and hand tool has come partly off and it is hard to tell if the setting has changed. The pedal in the back after going down a 4 inch step broke so the...

My husband and I recently bought a house with carpet that looked like it had never been cleaned. We didn't have the money to replace the carpet, so we decided to buy a cleaner and do it ourselves. After careful consideration, we decided to purchase this Bissell Proheat. What a fantastic machine. The carpet almost looks new and the house smells great. It is very easy to use and you can even clean your couch or chair with the tools. I would recommend this machine to anyone who is not happy with the cleanliness or appearance of their carpets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Glad I decided on this carpet cleaner!, April 28, 2002

Let me say for many years I have used my trusty Hoover SteamVac and have had to return once because the water was not squirting out properly and now the brushes are not turning. After doing a little research and shopping I decided on this model Bissell Proheat 1699. I used the cleaner today and I love it! It does not require hook up to any sink. It's easy to put together and it's easy to use. Since my Hoover had been on the blink for a while my carpets were definitely ready to be cleaned. My carpets look great and not only are they clean and spot free but my carpet looks fluffier. I would recommend this cleaner and am very pleased with the results.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, August 12, 2002

I used the Bissell on my 10 year old couch and loveseat. Although they had barely been used they still had collected 10 years worth of dirt and dust. The Bissell 1699 worked great they came out looking brand new. I can't wait to try it on my carpet. I checked around at the different product's on the market, before I decided on this model. It is made of plastic so of course you have to be careful but, then all of them on the market are. It was very easy to use. The bag in the tank keeps the clean water separated from the dirty water, and the cleanup is a snap. I've already ordered more tools to use with it, which is priced very reasonable from the Bissell website.

The dial for switching between floor and hand tool has come partly off and it is hard to tell if the setting has changed. The pedal in the back after going down a 4 inch step broke so the handle will not stay up. There were other problems including the floor mode will automatically stop suctioning, etc, etc. Think twice before buying it. For the 3 times a year I use it I believe I can rent a more powerful unit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Awesome!, May 23, 2002

This review is from: BISSELL 1699 ProHeat Clearview Upright Deep Carpet Cleaner (Kitchen)
Bought it because I got sick of the landlord refusing to clean the carpets and if we did it to pay so much, since we have three kids and 2 cats and the carpets need cleaning often. This one does an awesome job in pulling out deep down dirt as well as in removing cat hair you didn't even know was there!!
Didn't get my kids juicy juice and cool aid spot out,but hey...they are OLD!On fresh ones it worked wonders.
I love how easy it moves and how convinient the water tank is.Its using the cleaning solution a bit fast for my taste, but I've found a cheaper alternative to Bissels own at Sears, which works just as good, smells the same but cost half.

1.0 out of 5 stars Leaks When Stationary!!, December 29, 2002

No matter what good thing I can say about this item
I cannot recommend it. When stationary the water
leaks back out somewhat and does the same thing when
you carry it or push it from room to room. My
investigation shows that most all carpet cleaners that
are upright do this and the companies know it!
Cleans great but if you store it and it is not totally
dry you will have a stain where the liquid leaks out.
So store it in a place you don't care about! I will
seek out a cannister kind or rent... but this problem
is a serious one and contact with Bissell shows they
are aware of this. Buy it only if you want to use it
to clean up after itself!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great machine, wonder how I did without it!!, February 20, 2003

We bought this carpet cleaner because it was necessary for out warranty on our 1 year old carpet. Either clean with this cleaner once a year, or have it professionally done every two years. I had used the Hoover deep cleaner before, so was a little leary about buying this one. Assembly was easy, 4 screws and that was it. How's that for simple?? Did my 3 younger kids bedroom first, ages 4, 3, and 9 mths. It was a breeze. Not having to "measure" the cleaning solution was great, pour it in the reservoir, and your done. Did my stairs next with the hand attachment. Really easy, flip the switch for the hand tools, and it prevents it from running the roller bar. I next used it on my living room. I was going to wait until the kids went to bed that night, but my 3 year old took his ravioli in the living room, and the 9mth old ground it into the carpet. Used a little pretreatment solution, let it sit for 5 minutes, and whalla, it was gone. I was hesitant that the floors would be wet for quite a while. This machine is great with sucking the water out of the carpet. It was dry in less that 2 hours!! WOW. I also liked the water only feature. If you do happen to get to much foaming in the carpet, just switch to the water only, to dilute it, and suck it up. You do have to empty the cleaning solution from the reservoir and replace with water to use that feature, but over all very very simple and fast to use. Did all these rooms in less that 2 1/2 hours!! One little con, it does leave a little puddle of water if left on the floor not being used, and full of water, but I haven't seen a deep carpet cleaner that doesn't do this yet. Wish I would have bought this one sooner!!

I just took this item in for repair, est repair cost: $[money]!! I have only used it seven times and now it's useless. Broken floor switch, blown motor, rusted bearings and no spray. What a waste of my money..save yours.

... After only two years my Pro Heat Bissell's water pump just stopped pumping the water/cleaner solution. I would expect more from a model this expensive. We only have a few carpeted rooms in the house, most are hardwood, and we did not use the cleaner THAT much. I would look at other brands for better reliability. Also: When it DID work, it leaked on the floor when not in use! Steer clear of this lemon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good, March 12, 2011
By
This review is from: BISSELL 1699 ProHeat Clearview Upright Deep Carpet Cleaner (Kitchen)
I bought the cleaner 9 years ago and use it about three times yearly. Have had a few problems, but minor. I am having a problem now, that I caused by not cleaning the flow indicator filter. Cannot believe I have not since I do clean it after every use. I cannot get the flow indicator rotor to move, however I took it outside and ran it and everything was working except the rotor. Is there anyone with an idea to see if the line is plugged.
