Let me preface this by saying I've given a great review to my Fantom vacuum (which just died by the way) and must say, this vacuum is flat out great.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as great as everyone makes it out to be
This review is actually for the 3594-1, but don't worry, the 3594-1 is basically the same as the 3594. According to Bissell's web site, the 3594-1 has just a few minor differences: it has an "easy belt change" (no screwdriver required) and a solid bottom instead of a windowed bottom. The web site also says that the 3594-1 has a deluxe hose (which requires a screwdriver)...

Let me preface this by saying I've given a great review to my Fantom vacuum (which just died by the way) and must say, this vacuum is flat out great.

One sweep over carpet in our room and even I was amazed at what this thing pulled out! The bin was full after cleaning just one small room and the carpet definitely looked like it had been cleaned. I'm saying this after looking at our 4 year old builder grade carpet that is pretty matted down. Yet, the Bissell was able to pull up the fibers and make the carpet look really, really nice.

I agree with the attachments, they should be easier to get to. Another feature that would be nice would be a bigger collection bin. It's not much bigger than a sauce pot so be ready to do a lot of dumping if you vacuum large areas.

All in all, we got this vacuum for under $90 and would do it again in a heartbeat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome vacuum!!, October 31, 2004

I think this vacuum is awesome! I had a canister vac with bags for many years and thought it did an ok job but once I got this vacuum, I couldn't believe the difference. I read many reviews and then went to my local Kohl's (they were having a great sale) and got this vacuum for $97.00!! (I had a coupon also) I came home and vacuumed my living room with my old vacuum first and then vacuumed with the Bissell 3594. The red light stayed on for quite awhile (we have 2 cats and a 15 month old son) and I couldn't believe what was still in our carpet! I vacuumed the whole house and couldn't believe how much dirt and cat hair this vacuum picked up. The clean/dirty feature is the best! I will never buy another vacuum without it! I had always just vacuumed back and forth but the light shows where I need to spend a little bit of extra time. The onboard tools are also a very nice feature. The clean/dirty light works with these also and it's nice for cleaning under items to show when you can move on to the next spot. I was actually having fun cleaning! I moved into our bathroom and started to vacuum the throw rugs (my old canister did these with no problem) but the Bissell didn't like these rugs. One corner got sucked up and oops, the belt broke (my old vac would just shut off if this happened). I got on Bissell's website and ordered a couple of new belts and while I was at it, I ordered a new light and a new crevice tool and they arrived in no time so now I am back to happily vacuuming my house. The only feature that I wish this had that my old vac had was a retractable cord but I didn't see this feature with any of the uprights so I just have to learn to wind up the cord. Overall, this is a GREAT vacuum and I highly recommend it. Please feel free to email me if you have any other questions - shortypa@comcast.net. Happy vacuuming!

5.0 out of 5 stars Think your carpet is clean.....THINK AGAIN!!!!!!, November 6, 2004
This review is from: BISSELL 3594 Cleanview PowerTrak Deluxe Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
I'm a single guy with 2 cats and I'm also a smoker(which adds a lot more dust through flying ash). Vacuuming never was one of my favorite tasks. The other day my old vacuum died and I borrowed my neighbors Bissell powertrak deluxe..........Today I went already and got my own one, because I knew it's the best buy I can ever do!!!!

That thing is soooo strong that it sucked up a whole container of cathair and half container of dust, which my old vacuum never was able to get out of the carpet. And the best thing is the "clean sensor". I love it, that it tells me when I'm done cleaning. Seeing the green light continously, is like an approvel which says:"you did a great Job cleaning" Also I have ADD and keeping track of the light until it finally stays on green, helps me stay focused without getting bored!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm impressed, October 6, 2004

This review is from: BISSELL 3594 Cleanview PowerTrak Deluxe Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
Last week I bought a Bissell Cleanview. I did research for about a week beforehand. I read all the reviews, talked to salesman. got thouroughly confused and then bought this vaccum. I liked this one because of the clean light indicator. I have a friend who has this feature on a different vaccum and I love it. I got the vaccum home and began the test run. First I vaccumed with my old cleaner to the point were I would usually stop thinking it's clean. Then I went back over it with the Bissell. I didn't know wether to cheer or throw up when I saw how much more dirt the Bissell picked up. About six months ago we let a Kirby salesman in to show us his system. He did the usual test were he scattered sand in our carpet. Had us use our vaccum to get it up and then went over it to show "how much more the Kirby picks up" Well, while I was vaccuming that spot with my new Bissell, guess what I picked up? Yup, more sand! So, my Bissell is at least as good as the Kirby, and they wanted $2,000 for it...I paid $130.00. Even if the Bissell loses power in a year, it is cheaper to get a new one of these every year than to buy a Kirby. Bottom line this vaccum has everything I wanted and works great for a great price. It's a smartbuy.

If I had to say anything negative about it it would be One: the attachments could be easier to get to...I had a Phantom before, terrible suction, but great accessory set-up. No one else has this set-up though, and the Bissell is better than any I came accross in my search. Two: It will take you longer to vaccum, because the clean carpet sensor let's you know your not done just because you know longer see dirt on your carpet. This means longer vaccum time, but noticeably cleaner, softer carpet.

5.0 out of 5 stars And I thought my carpet was clean..., September 17, 2004

My old vacuum was about 10 years old but still chugging along. I was tired of buying bags though, and the carpet just didn't look superclean anymore. I bought this Bissell based on all the reviews I read. WOW! What a difference it made. I thought my carpet was clean until I used this Cleanview on it. After vacuuming just one room, I had a container full of dust and lint. It is so powerful, and it tells you with a red/green light if your carpet is clean. The light comes in handy for seeing under beds and tables. The power cord is extra long. I love the "power brush" tool that makes my couch look like new. All in all, this is a great vacuum, and I never have to buy another bag again!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as great as everyone makes it out to be, February 21, 2005
This review is from: BISSELL 3594 Cleanview PowerTrak Deluxe Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
The web site also says that the 3594-1 has a deluxe hose (which requires a screwdriver) instead of a "twist n snap" hose, but when I took it out of the box, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the hose is actually a "twist n snap". The last difference is that the 3594-1 is a stylish bronze instead of an unappealing blue.

I had read all the glowing reviews about this vacuum, and since Amazon has been claiming that the 3594 would be "in stock soon" for a while, I decided to take advantage of a sale on the 3594-1 over at Best Buy.

So many people have said that you can take your old vacuum and vacuum your house, and then immediately take this Bissell vacuum and it would suck up a ton of dirt that your old vacuum missed. Since my old vacuum is an 18-year old Hoover, I figured the red light on the Bissell would be lit for several minutes as I vacuumed my house with it. (For those of you who don't know, the Bissell vacuum lets you know if your carpet is dirty or clean while you are vacuuming. If the red light is on, then your carpet is dirty; if the green light is on, then your carpet is clean.) I also thought that this Bissell vacuum would be a bit quieter than my 18-year old Hoover, which is quite loud.

After vacuuming my house with the Bissell, I have to say that it didn't live up to the expectations that I had formed after reading all the positive reviews here. The vacuum works, but I just don't think it's as good as people say it is. I thought that I would hear a lot of noise as it picked up stuff that my Hoover missed, but I didn't. The red light also hardly ever turned on. A few times it turned on for a split second, but for the most part, the green light stayed on. It also wasn't any quieter than my 18-year old Hoover.

I also tested the vacuum after I finished vacuuming my house. I took some paper and used a hole puncher to punch a bunch of holes into the paper. Then I took all the paper "dots" and sprinkled them all over the floor. Then I turned the Bissell on and cleaned up the dots. One positive thing about the Bissell that I noticed was that it was able to suck up the dots that were sitting right at the edge of the carpet where it touched the wall. One negative thing that I noticed was that the Bissell actually blew a few of the dots AWAY from the vacuum, so I had to chase them down! Vacuums are supposed to suck things into them, so I don't know why the Bissell blew a few of the dots away from it. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that while I was vacuuming the dots, the red light worked very well. So I guess the dirt sensor only works if you are vacuuming large pieces of dirt.

Finally, I have to mention that after vacuuming my house, the Bissell has a fair amount of dirt on it near the bottom. I'm not sure why that is the case, because my 18-year old Hoover doesn't have that problem. A vacuum is supposed to make dirt go inside of it, not onto the outside of the vacuum.

UPDATE (March 14, 2005):

Last week I found the same Bissell vacuum on bestbuy.com at a cheaper price, so I ordered it and returned the one that I bought a few weeks ago. This second Bissell has a couple of problems that the first one did not:

1) The dirt sensor stays on forever, even if I go over an area of carpet several times so that I know it's clean.

2) When I was putting together the first Bissell vacuum, I found it very difficult to slide the Hose Wand into the Hose Wand Base. It was just extremely tight, and I thought I might actually break the handle on the Hose Wand trying to put it in all the way. I was happier with the second Bissell vacuum, as it was much easier to slide in the Hose Wand, and I figured that would make it easier to pull out when I wanted to use the attachment tools. But it turns out that tighter is better, because while I was using the second Bissell, the Hose Wand actually flew out of the base! This seems to be a poor design by Bissell, as they should really have a way to lock the Hose Wand into the base, instead of relying on it to be really tight, which can make it difficult to pull out to use the attachment tools.

I'm going to have to return it and get another one which I hope won't have those 2 problems.

I'd also like to address a couple of issues mentioned on other reviews:

a) Someone complained about being right handed and disliking the fact that the power cord comes out of the right side of the vacuum. This is an easy problem to solve. There is a cord hook near the bottom of the handle (just above the hose hook) which lets you wrap the power cord over to the left side, so that you can hold it in your left hand while vacuuming with your right hand.

b) Several people have complained about the dirt container being really messy to clean since there might be dirt above the container that you need to reach up and grab. Well, you can actually pull out the entire Upper Tank which sits above the dirt container. Just turn the knob on the back of the vacuum and pull it out. That should make it easier to clean.

4.0 out of 5 stars Got pets? This is the one..., June 30, 2005
This review is from: BISSELL 3594 Cleanview PowerTrak Deluxe Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
Short version: I've been using this vac for about a month now. Buy it.

Long version: This is my first "real" vacuum purchased to replace what I swear must have been the first vacuum ever invented. (It was a hand-me-down.) Wow what a difference! I purposly waited to use this unit for a month before writing the review. I have used it every other day.

We have two cats and live in a 1100 sq foot home w/ beige carpets. I always thought our house was clean....boy oh boy was I wrong. This thing picks up everything from dirt to cat hair to cat litter to cat food to carpet fuzz to leaves to geesh, you name it. I vacuum every other day now and, it is absolutely astonishing the amount of stuff that comes out of the carpet. This vac makes me WANT to clean!

Pros:

* Picks up what other vacs can't

* Onboard tools are effective and easy to use. I use the brush on my drapes (totally gets rid of the cat hair), the turbo brush for my furniture, and the crevice tool for everything else

* Wide cleaning path

* Easy to push/drive

* Leaves carpet lighter and fluffier

* Strong and effective filters - 2 are handwashable and dry quickly

* Easy to clean/empty filters and dust bin

* Dirty/Clean lights (I thought this was a cheesy gimick until I realized that I actually use them to clean efficiently)

* Extra long cord. One plug-in does our whole house.

* There is nothing in my house that this vac hasn't been able to clean

Cons:

* It gets hot - this thing really cranks out the heat, but that is to be expected for all that it's doing

* The handle could be made of a more comfortable plastic - this one is kinda hard

* Cat hair gets "stuck" in the Turbo Brush - not a huge deduction from the vac as a whole though

* If you don't want to get near the dirt and debris you'll be disappointed with this unit. Two of the three filters are handwashable. I find it ok because in cleaning them myself, I know that they are clean.

* It's not a quiet vacuum.

* Don't purchase with the strict intent on using it on your hard floors. I use the hard floor setting to go over a little bit of tile by the front door, and honestly, my swiffer does better.

This was my first Amazon purchase, and my first Bissell. Neither will be my last!

I was totally impressed with the job this vacuum did. The suction was so strong I had trouble vacuuming the small area rugs around the house. It picked them right up! I seriously considered buying the $500 Dyson vacuum, but after a fair amount of research, I found no compelling evidence that the Dyson performed any better than others of the same type. This vacuum did not disappoint and it was a fraction of the cost. I absolutely love the dirty/clean indicator which readily tells you if it is still picking up dirt. There is also a suction indicator which tells you when you are losing suction and it's time to empty the cup. A word of warning, however - I wasn't paying attention and the cup filled up (mostly with carpet fibers!) past the "full line" without ever losing suction. This resulted in my having to clean the filter out (which is fortunately very easy).

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Vacuum Cleaner!, December 23, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: BISSELL 3594 Cleanview PowerTrak Deluxe Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
I bought this vacuum cleaner to replace a 9 year Eurkea Boss which was dying a slow, painful, bag-eating, dusty death. I received my new vacuum cleaner today. I have my house professionally cleaned once a week. I just picked up two-three cups of dust/dirt vacuuming two rooms and a hallway! This vacuum cleaner GLIDES. It requires almost no effort to push! The headlight is extremely helpful in illuminating corners, cracks and carpet close to the wall. I love the bagless feature and the fact that I can SEE the canister as it is filling up. The accessories clip on in a tight and efficient manner. My last vacuum cleaner attachments kept falling off in the most unhelpful manner and moments. It cleans, it tells me when it's full, it tell me when the filters need changing, and it is effortless to push. What more could a person want? Buy it. It's a great value. I used the $25.00 off coupon w/free shipping. $105.00 from Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Live in filth no more!, January 30, 2005
By
This review is from: BISSELL 3594 Cleanview PowerTrak Deluxe Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
About a year ago, we purchased a Hoover Windtunnel because we thought it was the best out there at the time. It was SO loud, the kids went running every time we turned it on. The attachments fell off and the cord got in the way of the attachments, and the filter kept getting clogged up, having to be washed and dried before you could attempt to vacuum again. Finally, it died yesterday and we bought this Bissell.

We had *just* vacuumed yesterday, but we of course wanted to try out the new one. In just a 3'x3' square of carpet, we sucked up about 2" of DIRT and 2 more of lint and fluff. We were *shocked*.

The next thing we noticed was the cool red light/green light feature. It will actually tell you when you've sucked all the dirt and hair up when the light changes from red to green. It took a long time to turn in some parts of our carpet but eventually, we got the green light.

After finishing our small living room (probably about 9'x9') we had at least *4 INCHES* of dirt and more lint and hair. We just stared at the cup not believing that was in our carpets.

We also loved how quiet it was. Compared to the Hoover, it's heaven. We can actually still talk to each other, hear the phone ringing or someone knocking on the door, yet we haven't exchanged the quiet for lack of power or suction. It is simply amazing!

Another great feature is the powered attachment to do your couches and drapes with a rotating brush attached to the hose. In addition, the cord wraps around the side, so it doesn't interfere with the onboard attachments and the hose from the base to the dirt cup is clear, so if anything gets clogged, you can see it right away.

I cannot say enough about this vacuum. Why pay $300+ for a vacuum that wasn't even rated that highly in Consumer Reports (the Dyson) when you can get this for half that, and be REALLY clean??!!
