1.0 out of 5 stars LEMON, DONT BUY
Works great until it breaks and it will in short order. I have had it replaced 3 times and its in the shop now.

If you just have to buy this product get the warantee. Treat it very gently, use Bissell's cleaners (other brands seem to disolve the glue used on seals), clean it meticulously after every use.

i just got this cleaner today, slapped it together, proceded to break a plastic floater (used to shut off the suction when the tank waste tank is full). Very fragile and it looks like your are supposed to pull on it and discard it. Not so. Other than that the machine works OK. I have never used a carpet cleaner, but I just got my third dog and decided it was time. Decided I would just buy one and try to clean the carpets every three months.

I cleaned half of my carpet tonight and it looks noticably better. These carpets were old and filthy and they actually look good now.

Before going home from work today a coworker was knocking the machine saying how his neighbor bought one, returned it and got a nice Hoover (with rotating brushes). Almost sent mine back instead of opening it but I am too impatient and wanted to try it.

Things I like:
The bladder system
The heater
The soap feeder (adjustable)- though i think it uses more soap than it should.
Ease of assembly
Attachments

things I don't like:
that plastic thing I broke.
everything is plastic (but I think it would be hard to find one that isn't).

Things I would reconsider:
I have never used a steam cleaner, but the idea of rotating brushes seems like a good one to me. Therefore, I would consider a Hoover if I hadn't already bought this one. But I am happy with this machine and the attachments (especially the scrubber brush). It cleans well and is easy to use.

No complaints- hope it proves to be durable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!!!, June 10, 2002

The Bissell Pro-Tech carpet cleaner is WONDERFUL. The results are equal to that of a professional job!

I rent a house and the carpet had not been cleaned in over 5 years. I have two cats and for a while a roomate with 2 cats. Making my house a 4 cat household. Needless to say I had problems with cat odor and stains and thought for sure the carpet was ruined. Thanks to the Bissel Pro-Tech the carpet now looks fantastic. I used the Bissel Pet odor and soil removal formula and I can't smell a single pet odor!

The 12 amp motor removes water from the carpet extremely well. Within 1 hour my carpet was dry enough to walk on, though still damp in the spots where I used the heavy traffic setting. I was also nicely surprised at how quiet the Pro-Tech was, combined with the perfect pass speed sensor it was actually fun to clean my carpet.

I had purchased a less expensive carpet cleaner from Dirt Devil and found it to be useless. I cleaned my dining room twice with it and all it seemed to do was make the carpet damp with little improvement on odor and stains... I cleaned my dining room one time with the Bissel Pro-Tech and the carpet in there looks BRAND NEW!

The Turbo brush and accessories are great for hard to reach corners and for the steps and did an equally fine job cleaning the carpet.

Assembly was simple, I did it by myself while my husband was working. I followed the advice of other reviews here and read the instructions manual, everything worked like a charm and I would suggest taking the 5 minutes or so to read the manual as well. It mentions important things such as which setting to have the cleaner on when you are putting new solutions in, or draining dirty water. I would have never known this without reading the manual.

The only thing that concerned me with this Pro-tech was the lid on the water container. It has a handle for easy carrying, how ever the handle is attached to the lid, to remove the lid you just have to move the handle forward. I was concerned it would fall off while I was moving the container to and from the sink and spill dirty water all over the place. Just be careful and place a hand underneath the container when transporting it.

Don't make the same mistake I did, if you are looking for a carpet cleaner it is obvious you get what you pay for. Though this model is a little more expensive than others, it is a great machine with professional results, and its completely worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Decision, June 15, 2003

It was difficult to spend the money, but I am now glad that I did. I had previously spent quite a bit to have my carpet cleaned professionally, but I have discovered that this machine (which cost about half as much) does just as well. As someone else mentioned, you have more control over when, how (& by whom) the carpet is cleaned, too.

Pros: self-adjusting brush height, on-board heater, application options (regular, heavy traffic, rinse), choice of cleaners (for pet stains, allergens, regular cleaning), convenience, safety (not letting strangers in to your home), and EFFECTIVENESS! Your carpet looks and smells great! The Bissell cleaners contain Scotchguard and you can add a final "top spray" of Scotchguard for additional, "factory-new" stain protection.

Cons: None. Regarding other comments: I disagree with the people who stated that the parts were "..." - after all, several people pulled them off deliberately or broke them without even knowing what they were! Whose fault was that? If you read the manual and treat the machine with respect it seems to do fine. But you do need to read the instructions. Really - it does not take that long to do! Also, you are supposed to put one dial in a certain position when you change the water - if you do that, it does not leak at all! So much for wet carpet. And (also in the manual), you are supposed to vacuum well BEFORE using the Bissell. If you do that you will NOT have a problem with pet hair (I have a long-haired cat and a puppy - no problems with pet hair after vacuuming). Finally - about the "bits of fluff" when you are done - that is the stuff that was too embedded for your vacuum cleaner to be able to pull out. Would you really rather it was left in the carpet? It took about 22 seconds to pick up.

Overall, this was a good purchase. I recommend it to anyone who is interested in a healthy, clean home environment and extended carpet life. (No, I have NO connection with the Bissell company. This is my first carpet cleaning machine. I am NOT a clean-freak - on the contrary, I struggle to keep up with things around the house [can you say "FlyBaby"? - see "Sink Reflections" for sale here on ... for more info on that!] ! I like this machine because it makes your carpet look so great and really takes very little effort!!)

4.0 out of 5 stars Well, I do like this cleaner., December 27, 2001
This review is from: BISSELL 7920 ProHeat Pro-Tech Carpet Cleaner (Kitchen)
I have have this cleaner and it has worked great for me! It cleaned my VERY DIRTY CARPETS (2 toddlers, pets and a husband! :-) ) to almost a profesional clean! I found it easy to operate and the attachments easy to use as well. Reguardless of what the other people have said, It is really easy to fill the water and cleaning fluid. Perhaps they should make sure they are operating it right?

The one complaint I have is that if you take off the attachments really fast, and IMMIDIATELY after use, it does drip a little water.

I would recommend for future owners, read the ENTIRE MANUAL prior to plugging it in! Make sure you are using it right!!

I love this and will recommed!

Other than 4 or 5 stars for this machine must reflect the user's inability to read. Follow the manual and you will be amazed! It is so multi-faceted in its capabilities. It got up dirt and dog hair my vacuum missed in the pre-sweep--gobs of it! The self adjusting brush was the best upgrade from previous models. And to think I almost bought the Hoover. Bissell rocks!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for pet owners and households with people who spill !, May 5, 2002

This review is from: BISSELL 7920 ProHeat Pro-Tech Carpet Cleaner (Kitchen)
I replaced an old style carpet cleaner that hooked to the faucet with this and WOW! It cleaned my carpets and made 10 year old ones look new by cleaning them and raising the nap! I have a dog and he has had accidents on the carpet and it cleaned all but one place( it was a nasty old one) I haven't given up yet going to try to clean it one more time. My house smells great and the dust level has dropped.
The machine is a bit heavy and you MUST operate it slowly-as the lights indicate but when you do it does the job!
I'm glad I spent the money and the next time the dog has a nasty accident or the kids spill cola I think I have a machine that will keep it from turning into a permanent stain.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great machine to own if you have light carpet and kids!, September 2, 2003

This review is from: BISSELL 7920 ProHeat Pro-Tech Carpet Cleaner (Kitchen)
We recently built our first home, and the only carpet color I liked was a very light beige color. Everyone told me I would be sorry because it would be trashed (we have 6 kids). But now whenever someone comes to our door they say, "How do you keep your carpet so clean?" I open the closet and show them the Bissell. It is a very good cleaner. I like the hose attachment for cleaning up small, localized messes when the whole room doesn't need cleaning. The turbo brush is very good at lifting out many different spills, drips and shoeprints. I like the carpet protectant applicator option, too. It protects the carpet and makes it clean up better the next time. Some of the other reviews talk about how they broke little parts off of the cleaner. I avoided this by reaading the instructions before I used it. It seems to be very durable to me. The cleaner fluid is easy to find at any store.

I have only had a chance to use this product a few times, but it does a very good job. I have berber carpet, two dogs, two cats, and an eight month old, this thing really get the dirt out of the carpet. The best part is that it doesnt leak and is very straightforward to use.The speed meter is more fluf than anything, you really dont need it. The seperate container for the water and cleaning solution is really nice. The bladder system for keeping the clean and dirty water seperate but in the same container is really quite novel, it looks odd but works well.

If your in the market for one of these, it is definitely worth picking one up.
