BISSELL Carpet Cleaners

The soft feeling of clean carpet between your toes can be hard to maintain with kids, pets, and everyday life tracking dirt in; and vacuuming alone isn't enough. Deep clean what vacuums leave behind and make sure dirt, spots, and stains are gone for good. We recommend cleaning your carpets at least twice a year—or more if you have pets, kids, or a smoker in the house. BISSELL offers both upright and canister carpet cleaners—for whole-room cleaning—and easy-to-use portable carpet cleaners for everyday spots and stains.

Don't Forget! Keep your carpets clean and odor-free with deep cleaning formulas from BISSELL. Most formulas are 2X concentrated so you use half as much. Plus, keep carpets looking newer, longer with our cleaning formulas complete with Scotchgard. And, to keep your carpets fresh and stain free in-between deep cleanings, have a BISSELL spot and stain remover on-hand.

With several cats in the house, I regularly shampoo the carpets. I try to do it every three months, and have found this much easier if I own a carpet cleaner rather than renting one each time. I’ve owned several different units and rented a couple as well, so I have some experience with them.

The Bissell ProHeat 2X Premier Full-Size Carpet Cleaner, Blue, 47A23 is the first I’ve had that employs a heat feature to keep the water hot while cleaning. I have to say that I really like the fact that the water doesn’t cool off significantly by the time I spray it on the carpet.

This cleaner also has another novel feature – there is only one tank for both clean and dirty water. The tank has a flexible bladder inside where the clean water and solution go. The dirty water is deposited into the reservoir surrounding the bladder. As you spray more areas, the bladder takes less space in the tank, which makes room for more dirty water to be suctioned up. The real advantage to this configuration for me is that only one tank needs to be taken to the sink every time you need to empty and refill – no more toting two tanks each time. Also, the tank seems to be bigger than my old Hoover cleaner, which means less trips to the sink to refill. The Hoover didn’t hold enough liquid to handle the entire living room – I always had to refill halfway through, but the Bissell was able to clean that entire area without refilling. The less I have to handle the tank, the faster this chore goes.

Bissell touts 10 rows of cleaning with dual rotating powerbrushes, and having seen the unit, there are indeed some pretty serious looking brushes in it. Having used it, I can attest to the effectiveness of these brushes.

For years, despite trying many different carpet cleaners, I have been a loyal Hoover girl. My favorite shampooer was a Hoover SpinBrush with Clean Surge. I thought it was the best .. until I tried this Bissell!

Putting this unit together takes about 3 minutes. Quick, easy and done. It feels solid enough, sturdy. My only concern is that sometimes when the water tank is totally full, making the unit heavy, you can feel some wiggle in the handle as you steer and use the shampooer. It is really only very slight and I really don't think it will be an issue, but it is something I noticed.

This is the first time I tried a cleaner that has the clean and dirty water area all in the same tank. To be honest, I didn't think I would like it. Turns out, I do like it - a lot. It is so much easier to empty and clean just one tank. One my Hoover, I had to empty the dirty tank and fill the clean tank and carry both tanks back and forth to the shamppoer for every fill and dump. With this Bissell, it's one tank to lug back and forth, so much easier and much less messy.

The tank has a sort of plastic bag in it that you fill with your clean/soap water. As you spray the clean/soap water onto the floor and then suck it up, it goes into the tank and basically surrounds the bag. The bag depletes as you use the water and therefore makes room for all of the dirty water to be sucked up into the tank. When you have sucked up all the dirty water, you dump the tank and refill and get back to work.

This unit is sort of heavy. The first time I used it, I could definitely tell a difference from when I use my Hoover. I do not mind the weight though and I can't even notice it anymore. The results of cleanliness of the carpets is well worth it regardless.

My first carpet cleaner was one of the original Bissell ProHeat units, I bought not one but two of them, as well as a SpotBot and a Pet SpotBot over the years.

With my most recent carpet cleaning purchase, however, I upgraded to the Hoover Max Extract Dual V All Terrain, F7452900PC, which cleaned my carpets even better.
How did this model clean in comparison to the carpet cleaning feature of the Hoover? VERY well, considering the reasonable price.

It is easy to assemble and operate. I used it on a pet stained carpet. My dogs are pad trained, and often miss the pad, or if using an economy pad, they can leak. This unit, when using a pre-treating spray and COLD water, does beautifully on pet stains.

Most people think that hot water is best to 'sanitize' the pet area, but nothing is further from the truth. Hot or even warm water will set the urine, feces, blood, or vomit stain (be it animal or human) and make the stain AND odor come back. As tempting as it is to use the heat feature, don't do it. And if you're tempted to fill it with boiling hot water, again, do NOT do it. I did with one of my Bissells, and it ruined the machine, as well as voided the warranty.
So, cold water for pet messes, warm for the rest...don't over-wet or over-soap, and this machine performs beautifully. The heat feature is perfect for high traffic areas and areas that are not soiled with protein based stains.

You'll be amazed at what it pulls out of your carpets. I's oddly rewarding to see the filthy water.
