I had bought this for my wife after a lengthy search on the internet and we've not been disappointed. The first occasion to use it came after one of our four legged pets had an accident on our beige rug. It loads easily and it's handy how the clean water and the waste water share space on the small, cartridge. It's surprisingly light weight too. We'd had a Bissell previously from about 10 years ago and that was a large, 4 wheeled item that you pulled behind you. As I recall that cleaned pretty well but all the water fittings leaked no matter how hard you tightened them. I'm glad to say that this Bissell cleans even better and there are no leaks to be seen.
This has been a good purchase for us!

I wanted a carpet cleaner that was easy to use, easy to clean, easy on the pocket book, and, of course, works! I found it in this Bissell. When I was shopping for a carpet cleaner, I admit I was leaning more towards the Bissell brand. I own a Little Green Machine and have always been pleased with its performance.

Like other reviewers have written, the PowerSteamer does leave "lint balls"...in my case, "fur balls" around the floor. But, personally, I don't see this as a problem. Yes, I did vacuum thoroughly, but with a cat and a dog that shed, there will always be pet fur. I would rather gather up those "fur balls" and throw them in the trash than have them sucked up in the tank and poured down the drain to clog the pipes.

Don't expect this machine to clean your carpet in one pass! It will do the job well if you take the time. In the high traffic areas of the carpet, I realized that this was going to take extra time and extra passes with the PowerSteamer. I took the time to do four passes on those areas and the black spots that were quite noticeable are gone.

You may find this machine cheaper at retail stores. I found mine for a bit cheaper than the Amazon listings by buying in store than on line.

Updated July 2, 2013: Well, the honeymoon is over, so to speak. I have knocked down my original 5-star review to a 2-star review. After the third use, I am having an odd issue. No cleaning solution comes out of the tank. I contacted Bissell and they sent me an email of several things to check. If those don't resolve the problem, then I need to take it to an authorized repair shop. And you guessed it...the checklist resolved nothing. I haven't taken the machine to a repair shop yet, and am fearing the cost to repair will be more than the price of the machine.

A lot of the previous reviewers' complaints were about leaving fuzzballs or other things after using this vacuum, but what they fail to mention is that with every wet vac, you're supposed to run a regular dry vacuum over the carpet before hand. This would have an effect on how much extra work the vacuum needs to do. While the vacuum did remove lodged-in dog hair, it would leave said hair in clumps on the ground. It was easy to pick up and throw away, but I agree the hair should have been sucked into the tank instead of deposited on the ground.

That being said, this vacuum is great at picking up embedded dirt and making sure the carpet is dry afterwards. After running the cleaner over the rug several times, the rug was still moist, but was relatively dry the next morning. Depending on how soiled your rug/carpet is, you may need to continue passing the cleaner over it to truly get it clean.

For the price (along with the rebate from bissell), I think this is one of the most cost effective cleaners you can get.

We had multiple stubborn stains on the carpetting in our son's room and this Bissell cleaner cleaned them all. There was dried koolaid and coke among other stains that came right up. I was shocked to read that it didn't work for others. We borrowed this from a friend and have determined to buy our own. $129 is well worth the price for having a clean carpet.

i have three big huge dogs that dig holes in the back yard then come running in side and track the dirt all over my light color rug. And for some reason the 1 year old female decided to start peeing on the rug past month. i bought the machine one of the cheapest one out there thinking its not going to do a to good of a job but i was wrong... a little patience and it made my rug look like i just laied it down. I WAS AMAZED like i said if u work it slow back n forth it cleans n dries it pretty damn good. before i used it i used this rug cleaner spray that does work magic Fortex carpet cleaner its cheap magic liquid in a bottle n pre spotted the rug first. Then ran the bissel n the rug looks and smells brand new NO PEE SMELL OR STAINS ANYWHERE.i used my $400 Dyson vacume before i ran the bissel n the bissel got up the left over hair the Dyson didnt get up. I was amazed!!!!! i have been renting carpet cleaners for 6 years now n a few months ago rented the new machine that Petsmart carries. it does work better than rug doctor thing.... but this time i figure a just go buy one.. glad i did the bissel worked better then any machine i have rented n saves me tons of money in the future. i read the 2 n 1 stars reviews n laugh i dont know what people want but if they want a magic machine u need to spend the money a $100 machine is not going to work magic but it will get it cleaner then any machine u can rent out there with a little patience... let the machine do its job n it wont let u down. i give it 5 stars easy to put together not bulky like some people say its is (its not a broom its a carpet cleaner lol) light weight even with water in, it seems well built, easy to clean, n easy to use....................... 2 THUMBS UP.... N THE PEOPLE THAT GAVE IT 2 AND 1 STAR ARE PEOPLE THAT WANT EVERYTHING FOR NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!! LIFE DOESNT WORK LIKE THAT RETARTS

Bought this cleaner, since it was the cheapest one I could find. Easy assembly and did clean the carpet fairly well. The carpet was wet for a good 5-6 hours afterwards and there were black wet fuzz balls all over the carpet from the cleaner. I can't even imagine how long the carpet would be wet if you used the rinse cycle on the carpet after cleaning it. As for the fuzz balls, I had to vacuum them up after I cleaned the carpet. I thought for the money i spent, I would get a better cleaner.

I have had this for two years, and now I'm looking for a different machine. It does not remove any stains, or spots, unless you get them right away while they're still wet. It makes my carpet shed and then spit out big hunks of wet dirty fibers all over my floor. I then have to wait for it to dry and then vaccuum up all the dirty fiber piles. Yuck!
Plus, after using it about 12-15 times, it started leaking. I've had it cleaned, and it still leaks. I was told "it's shot".
Its not worth the money, that's for sure, and I'll never buy another one.

The BISSELL PowerSteamer PowerBrush Select Upright Deep Cleaner, 1623 came when it was expected and we couldn't wait to use it. We cleared out all the furnature and used it on a high volume area where 2 dogs, 4 adults and 3 grandsons routinely walk through on white carpeting. It did a great job removing the stubborn stains. We did pre-treat the stains prior to using the machine, however we also were smart enough to know that the machine would need a boost just like clothing does when placing in a washing machine. It worked just as we expected and we are very satisfied with it! We highly recommend it and recommend that users use it just like any other appliance....if its a stubborn stain before you wash it, pre-treat it and work on it a few time to remove the stubborn stain. It does come out with a little persistance. Our white carpets look brand new after we shampoo'd and vaccumed.

This is the first deep cleaner I've purchased. I've only had experience with the ones you rent from the grocery, and I used my sister's a few times, which is another Bissell model. Compared to either of those, this one works pretty great. I have medium brown sorta shaggy carpet with 2 cats who shed a lot. I used it about 3 weeks after moving into my new apartment and it pulled up quite a bit of dirty water and hair. It does leave the clumps of hair along the way, but I've seen that on the reviews of several other brands/models, so I was expecting it. With fans, the carpet dried in a few hours. Today I used the hose attachment to clean my 6 year old enduro-suede couch, which hasn't been deep cleaned since I bought it. It did a pretty great job as far as I can tell. I like that it has a brush and it seemed to suck up most of the water. I like that it's fairly easy to clean after use, and I like the 2-in-1 tank. I did find that for my 650 sq ft of carpet, I have to dump & refill about 3-4 times, especially if I have to go over any sections more than once, which is sometimes necessary. This fits nicely in the closet next to my Bissell vacuum cleaner, but is much lighter in weight and is much quieter than the vacuum cleaner. My only aesthetic complaint is that I expected it to be a little closer in "red" color to that of my vacuum, but it is more of a brick red / burnt orange color. No biggy. My confusion with most of these "steam" cleaners is how they can have "steam" in the name despite never emitting steam. I feel like there's a big difference between cleaning with hot soapy tap water vs steam.

This Power Steamer is big bulky and heavy , It did not clean as well as I expected it to for the money . I went with this one because it was not the cheapest and had read other reviews on it and thought it would work for me but it didn't take out the stains and also it causes carpet to shed . The only thing good I can say about this steamer is it picks up the water good and you can see what dirt has came up through the clear view tank in back . If your carpet gets really dirty from kids than select another machine ! Don't waste your money as I did .
