It is what it is - it cannot be anything else,

I read the other review where the reviewer complained that the bristles were't firm enough. The problem with that comment is these are standard cotton pipe cleaners, they do not and are not supposed to have bristles.
If you want firm bristle pipe cleaners buy bristled pipe cleaners. If you want standard soft cleaners for daily pipe cleaning and other similar applications buy standard cotton cleaners like these. If you want extra thick for larger stems buy jumbo thick or extra thick cleaners.

WELL, FOR ANOTHER OPINION...FOR WHAT IT IS WORTH.....,
This review is from: BJ Long Standard Pipe Cleaners - 10 Packs
I try my best to avoid controversy of any sort, being a rather meek and mild sort of fellow, but I find myself in the middle of a raging debate here as I try to write a review on these particular pipe cleaners.
It should be noted that these cleaners ARE NOT of the hard bristle sort...they are quite soft and quite absorbent. But for a good cleaning of your pipe, they might not do the job for you. I use these softer versions for daily (heck, who am I kidding...I use them almost hourly) cleaning of my pipes while smoking them (the pipes, not the cleaners) on the porch or anywhere else out of the house that my wife will allow. But that being said, ever few days I give each of my active pipes a really good scrub and for those heavy cleaning days I find I must use the hard bristle variety to get the job done, if I want it done correctly. The same hold true with cleaning either my guns, old clock pieces, fishing reels, and other such chores that come up; some require a stiff and heavy bristle, others do not. For each task there is a tool and you should always use the correct tool for the task at hand. It is like when I found out a few years ago that it is not a good thing to use a pipe wrench as a hammer when hanging pictures and it is not a good thing to use a screwdriver as a chisel when working with rock. (Don't snicker...I am tool challenged). Anyway, these cleaners are quite adequate and quite equal to the Dill's which I normally use. I am not overly excited about the packaging as I prefer the nice little cardboard envelopes the Dill's come in or the nice paper envelopes my most used Bryn Maur's are packaged in. A hand full of loose pipe cleaners tend to get spread all over the place...but on the other hand, I am a rather sloppy and disorganized person, so perhaps others will not be annoyed by this like I am. Again, a man must know his limitations, according to Dirty Harry, and I know mine. You on the other hand must seek and learn those that apply to you! As another reviewer has pointed out; there are differences in pipe cleaners and you simply must purchase the ones that will do the specific job you buy them for. Some are better for one thing, some are better for others. Personally, I use both, but not all for the same jobs. I will say though, that these cleaners are not your arts and crafts type you buy at Wally World...no, no, no! These are tools and very versatile tools too, I might add. The price here is not all that bad either...if soft is what you are looking for and need. Now I hope I did not offend anyone by stating my opinion here. I have gone through my entire life trying to avoid offending anyone at any cost. I would absolutely break my heart of I knew I cause anyone pain via my review here. Don Blankenship The Ozarks

What do you say about pipe cleaners, they clean my pipes just fine, they do have a raged cut on the end that catches on the pipe bit and must be trimmed sometimes. Other than that, I buy them in bulk and they get the job done.
