I got this shipped UPS, nice packaging. I opened the outside box and again, Blackhawk packaged this product in a nice box, well packed. It looked very pleasing to the eye. The instructions were short, easy to put this together. I realized then that this rifle rest was totally "take down" capable, like an AR. I currently have a Lead sled and its a great rest, but its heavy and bulky and I cant break it down for easy storage or transport. This is just as good on stability, with all the proper attributes that makes the lead sled wonderful. Dual frame, adjustable, and the front pad is made for a variety of rifles or pistols.

I had to make a few modifications, such as adding more padding to the back for my AR style stocks and a few straps to tie the rifle down, but I do that for any rifle rest.

The pros:

-This is a solid piece of machinery
-Kentucky windage and elevation is a hand touch away
-bottom spikes, wonderful
-its multiple pieces so you can break it down, take it to the range in a bag and reassemble at the range ..easily..Less than 2 minutes, again..wonderful
-large cap mags, no issues, wonderful
-designed like an AR, for ARs..any other rifles will be fine, wonderful
-take down weight tray...really convenient and what?..wonderful
-solid build
-Simple but sturdy design
-stable at half the cost, double wonderful
-Break it down, take the back off and its a front rifle rest, or a pistol rest, its a two for one sale! a true wonder!
-Works on a Kriss Vector Carbine..wow!
-Awesome price

Cons:

rear elevation for fine tuning may not be there...but honestly, you don't need it.

This is just a rifle rest made by AR tactical weapon specialists for tactical weapon enthusiasts. Wonderful!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

I took several guns to the range and brought this along for some initial sight-in for the scopes. It had enough adjustability to fit my long bolt action to my short AK47. I did not bring any extra weights for it which would have helped with my more powerful guns. For my needs it works great and was cheaper than a comparable Caldwell.

This rest is very well built and I am very happy with it. I won't bore you with the pluses because I would just be repeating what others have said. There is one issue, though: The rear can't be raised enough (or the front can't be lowered enough) to get on target with some rifles. That was an issue when I sighted in my M1 Garand the other day. I had to put a box of bullets beneath the rear adjustable leg to raise the rear of the rest enough to sight it in. I'll probably put a small block of wood in my range bag to deal with that in the future. I'm surprised that the designers of this otherwise very good rest didn't notice this issue. It may also be possible to put something in the rear rest to raise the butt of the gun in that case. If so, I'll make something to insert in the rear rest when necessary so that the original feet can be on the bench because then I could remove the rubber feet and use the spikes to help keep the rest from moving on the bench. I'm still very happy with the rest and would buy it again. It worked fine with my AR-15.

The frame is constructed from heavy wall tubing that makes the unit very solid . There are four length adjustment positions that require a little time to change. The wind-age adjustment is a nice feature but the for-end saddle tends to move from side to side. Pros; heavy, stable and solid which is what you want in a good bench rest. It seemed to fit all my long guns and was easy to set up for a comfortable shooting position. Cons; the elevation adjustment post was a little sloppy making a difficult to hold fine adjustments when locking it down. Good quality for the money

I first purchased an Allen model ($55 range) - the Allen unit was OK for the money, but there was an issue with the main adjustment threaded rod and ring (the ring would not move!). I was going to exchange it for another of the same, but decided to return it and do some homework.

Prior to purchasing this rest, I read MANY reviews, not only on Amazon but Gander Mountain, Cabelas, Bass Pro Shops, etc. I was close to purchasing one of the Caldwell Lead Sled models when I came across a drawback on them - the single frame tube running under the front rest (adjustable) to the rear rest (non-adjustable) interferes when using it for rifles having extended-round magazines (AR15s, AK47s). In order to use the Lead Sled with those rifles, you need to rotate the rifle to where the extended round magazine rests to the left or right side of the frame tube. Because I will use a rest for different rifles, including AR15s, and because I hold the rifle where the sights/scope is as vertical as possible, the Lead Sled was out.

I came across this rest, liked what I read, and ordered it. Even though I only shoot at ranges where I would use a rest 10-12 times a year, I appreciate quality and workmanship. This unit is definitely HIGH quality! It's design is such that it can be easily taken down for compact storage in a small duffle bag (not included). I have only used it once so far, but it worked flawlessly. I have no doubt that it will hold up to years of service, but me, my children, and grandchildren.
