This 2009 album reunites Maxwell with long-time collaborator Hod David, who serves as co-producer and co-writer of the album. Striving for an emotional authenticity and real world sound for the album, Maxwell and Hod recorded the entire album live in the studio with an A-list ensemble of elegantly sympathetic musicians.

Your new release is wonderful. Thanks for the commentary and I can say that you lived up to your promise. I cannot wait for your return to Los Angeles. This release is worth the price of admission. The music and the lyrics will stay with you. This release will take people back to the old school days of Marvin Gaye, L.T.D, The O'Jays, The Whispers, The Commodores with Lionel and Earth, Wind, and Fire from the 70's and I can also compare you to Stevie Wonder and Prince especially if you listen to the musicians and the heart they added to this release.
Thank you for pouring your blood, sweat, and tears into a CD that celebrates your God given talent.

This is Maxwell best work since Embrya. I am truly a fan and will always be. With it's live horns and well presented production and song writing, it is a 5 star album, no doubt! Even though with only 9 tracks, it is still a very nice album. Please purchase the vinyl edition, it makes me pleased to still have my record player, the sound is incredible!

Mawxell's new album, "BLACKsummers'night" is the new album everyone has been waiting for. He has been away for eight long years. The last time Maxwell released an album was "Now" in 2001. In his off time, he worked on a trilogy, the first of which I've heard now. He produced his new album (under his alias, Muzse) with longtime collaborator Hod David. The album is a worthwhile- albeit short- listen. There are only nine songs, but all of them are fantastic. Although this is his album, the real star of "BLACKsummers'night" is former Mint Condition touring drummer Chris "Daddy" Dave, who plays on every song on the album, with his signature playing. Still in all, buy this album, you will not be disappointed.
