DO NOT PURCHASE - routine charger failure!!,
By Gail Taylor "Interfaith Minister and Life Coach" (VA United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: BLDCHV9600 - Dustbuster Cyclonic Cordless Hand Vac (Kitchen)
I've now owned 2 of these. In both cases, the charger base stopped charging.
The first one worked great for a few months, then suddenly, when I put it in the charger, the red light wouldn't turn on. Not knowing what the problem was, I bought a 2nd one to test it. Sure enough, when I put the old dustbuster in the new charger, it worked fine. So I wound up with 2 dustbusters, and 1 charger. No problem. Now, less than a year later, the 2nd charger base is refusing to charge. Stupid thing. DO NOT buy this product, unless you want to just burn your money.

Great Suck; Works over 1 year later,

I bought this B&D Dust Buster in early 2008. Our son was 5 months old so we needed it in the kitchen. We mounted it on the side of a desk. It has never had a charging problem and it still sucks very strong today. My husband takes the vacuum apart and runs the filter and nose through the dishwasher to get all the baby's finger foods and RICE out. This vacuum picks up sticky white rice great! TIP: Let the rice dry out a little bit. I am buying # 2 for upstairs today 4/27/09. I recommend this product.

We have owned this for 3 years now and have never had a problem with it. Everyone is shocked at the amount of power it has. It holds the charge for a long time. I don't know what I would do without my dust buster. I absolutely love it! I was shopping for the filter and noticed the negative review and wanted to put in my two cents.

This Sucks (In A Bad Way) DO NOT BUY,

As others commented on this site, battery life decreases sharply and severely after only a few months. The suction was never really good either.
The instruction booklet shows a woman easily opening the battery compartment (adding insult to injury). Yeah, right -- I've been compared to the character Lisa, Joe Pesci's girlfriend in "My Cousin Vinny" because I am practical and smart about figuring out mechanical things even my guy friends (who don't exactly sing musical numbers but can build things) cannot. I took it to an experienced mechanical wizard (my father) and said "even I can't figure this out" and showed him how there were plastic barriers preventing one from moving the battery pack as shown in the instructions, which indicates it slides right out -- well you'd have to use a hammer and damage the DB at that. My father spent about 20 minutes trying to find a way around this and got so mad he picked up the DB and put it on his desk and said he would call Black and Decker the next day to ask them how they can sell such garbage -- my father is a busy man and does not have time for such things, so I know he was pretty mad. I then found out that to replace the battery would cost more than the unit itself and another reviewer said he could not even find a dealer to replace it. On another note, I am wonderfully pleased with the Bisell products I own -- I have an upright, the Pet SpotBot and the handheld Pet Hair Eraser or whatever their corded handheld is called. I own a dog and it is amazing how well these products pick up every hair (home, car) and the Pet SpotBot has removed all traces of the handful of accidents my dog has had. Due to my deep satisfaciton with Bisell, I will be looking into purchasing a new handheld from them.

Apparently hand vacs are like cars in a way...there are the occasional "lemons". The same product that works great for some, can be a "piece of junk" to others. This unit works great for me with no problems after 6 months, but the CHV1568 I bought a while back is indeed a "piece of junk"! For the money, this is the best "value" to me. I recommend this unit, but use it a lot right after receiving it to make sure it meets your requirements, and have plenty of time to return it if it IS a "lemon".

2+ YEARS AND STILL TERRIFIC: B&D deserves a reprieve,

Though this model is no longer available I wanted to give 2 thumbs up to B&D for this VERY, VERY MUCH IMPROVED dust buster: BLDCHV9600 - Dustbuster Cyclonic Cordless Hand Vac.
Not sure about these negative reviews. I bought 3 of these on an Amazon super deal over Xmas @ $10 each. My expectations were for a piece of junk, past B&D busters were garbage. I decided to give it a try for $10. Last saw it for $50 - well worth it! 2+ years later and all 3 are working perfectly. The 9+ volts is more than adequate for picking up kitchen spills, bathroom dust bunnies, re-potting spills - even spilled ash trays [including butts]. The crevice tool is perfect for picking up dust in hard-to-reach spots: between stove & cabinet, corners, behind my office monitor]. The brush attachment is great for tiled floors which I bust daily. Busting tiled floors in the past actually wore a hole in the plastic. The brush protects protects the plastic and it actually "sweeps" little spills as it goes. After 2 years the washable filters are all still working like charms, but I will be replacing soon [very affordable @ $7]. I love the on-board tools; saves time. Finally, all 3 still hold a good charge so they continue to work hard for me [I use at least one of these every day so I think of them as little workhorses]. I cannot say enough good things about this product; thrilled. If you hated the older DustBusters I suggest you give B&D a second try.

Still works well over a year!!,

I bought this hand vac on a fluke and I am glad I did. It does a really great job of picking up small messes made by my daughter. I also use it for a quick clean up in the foyer area. I am very satisfied with this purchase!

Flawed design,
This review is from: BLDCHV9600 - Dustbuster Cyclonic Cordless Hand Vac (Kitchen)
I have had a dust buster for over 10 years and loved it. I replaced my old one with this model. To say I am disapointed is an understatement! This design is flawed from the start. It is messy to empty and it a struggle to get the insides back in correctly and lock the handle on. Sad, sad, sad. It's a problem product not a solution!

great hand vac,
This review is from: BLDCHV9600 - Dustbuster Cyclonic Cordless Hand Vac (Kitchen)
We have owned this product for about 3 years now and we are very happy with it. Even now, the suction and battery life is very good. Like another reviewer, I was shopping for a filter and saw the negative reviews, so I wanted to share my experience. I guess the key to battery life (and indirectly suction) is NOT TO leave the unit at charge all times. We put it to charge only after the battery completely runs out and remove it from charge after it is fully charged. Having a toddler and a baby, we use it daily. It is indispensable for us.

I bought this product thinking that would last a couple years, but it broke after a couple uses when I was trying to empty, the plastic looks like it is cheap made. Also the charger base was not charging fully. I do not recommend this product.
