"Ink populates the strips with the type of worldly observation that exists...in the tradition of the best alternative comics.  GRADE: A"  ~Justin Giampaoli, 13 Minutes --thirteenminutes.blogspot.com/2011/04/dont-or-youll-miss-it.html

More About the Author

Max Ink has been writing and drawing his own style of comic books for over three decades. He's created fantasy comics, science fiction comics and even a series featuring anthropomorphic super heroes. These days, Max's style of choice is a down-to-earth comic series called Blink, which is set in his adopted hometown of Columbus, Ohio. The series features a mix of 20-something friends who live, work and basically just hang out and talk, living their lives to the best of their ability and enjoying themselves. Blink has been described as "real life on the printed page," as well as "philosophical," "wildly entertaining" and "a wonderful slice-of-what-I-wish-my-life-was-like" kind of comic. In 2011, Max published his first Blink graphic novel, So Far, which was a finalist for the SPACE Prize twice, and is currently in the process of writing and drawing his second Blink graphic novel, So It Goes, which will be over 400 pages long when it's completed in 2016. Max enjoys live theatre, cats and root beer.

Blink So Far is a delightful graphic novel! The stories are sweet but not saccharine, the characters are multifaceted and believable, and they're people you'd like to spend time with and get to know better. Even if you're not familiar with Columbus, Ohio, where the story is set, the strikingly rendered drawings of the city that anchor the chapters give the reader an amazing sense of place. This book will get you to fall in love with graphic narratives, even if you think you don't like comics.

I can't recall the exact circumstances in which I came to meet Max Ink. I know I was working on the genesis of Cerebus TV at the time with Dave Sim, and it was either the 1st or second Comics Convention I had gone to with the intention of doing interviews with comic creators. This was at the Ohio Comic Con in 2009 I believe.

Max and I had corresponded before the event - I recall seeing his work in an issue of Glamourpuss and seeing a very funny photo series of him and Dave Sim. I think this is when I first got in touch with Max, knowing, somehow, probably through him telling me directly, that he would be at the Ohio Comic Con. I looked for his table; I'd already done a hand full of interviews and was still trying to find my footing as to how about I would go about and do these interviews, which, at the time was purely by the seat of my pants. It's sort of the same way today, I'm just more comfortable doing it now.
I found Max at his table and after the formal introductions and interview I bought all the Blink Books and the two prints he had available at the time. I also did a piece on a Jam comic that had something to do with a Zombie Gumby...

Max was friendly and amiable, and very humble. He sketched and signed each of my Blink books and did a wonderful full sketch of Sam ( Which unfortunately was destroyed during the great Mercury Spill of 2009; the worst in North Carolina's history) - We sat and spoke for a while about his comic and how I could assist in helping get Blink out there for the public - fans would come by the table and say they knew him from the local paper, or how one of his strips had inspired them and so on and so forth. That was the 1st and last time I met with Max Ink.

With a few brisk pages, Max Ink creates a memorable set of characters who live and breathe just like the rest of us. In between gorgeous settings and natural dialogue we get a crystal clear glimpse into the lives of Sam, Blink, and Hank. Max does something here that few sequential artists attempt to capture, the space between moments. We used to have an old saying about the size of our town, "You blink and you miss it". Max is deeply aware of all the beautiful moments that are around us.

The characters of 'Blink" exist in a world that is deeply familiar but simultaneously unattainable. It's a romantic world view from that of an esoteric college student. "Blink" represents that brief moment in time when you've left your parents house but before you start your own family. It's that time before careers mattered. And in that sense it becomes a fantasy of what life could be like if friendships, art, and music lasted forever.

"So Far" seems to capture that moment in time like a treasured photograph of three friends smiling in front of a coffee shop.

Everyone should buy his comic, Blink. Its a story about three friends living a contemporary life in today's society. Blink, Sam, and Hank express social commentary about important topics but with non-dogmatic yet thought provoking messages and lessons. It's a classic, classy comic book story that will be enjoyed by a 10 year old girl thinking about what it will be like for her as a grownup to a 55 year old man sitting in a cafe reading a cheerful book and drinking a warm cup o' Joe. This story gives us a breather that offers an escape from the harsh realities we see on the news everyday with a beautiful story and imagery to match. For those of us who are not used to reading graphic novels and instead have read classic works, like Atlas Shrugged, Siddhartha, The Master Key System and You Can Heal Your Life, the intricacies of the artwork seem too good for a comic book. The artist's museum quality depiction of Columbus, Ohio makes you want live, at least for a little while, in the world that is Blink.

From beginning to end the book is an absolute delight to read. From library humor, to appropriate quotation, and several challenges to "common thought" the book hearkens to comic writing not honored in a long time.

I had the honor and pleasure of meeting Max Ink (writer, artist) at HeroesCon 2011 in Charlotte, NC. His presentation folio complete with an endearing sketch homage to Bill Watterson (page 26 of the book) immediately captured my attention. His description of this labor of love had me opening my wallet and laying down some of the best $10 I think I've spent in a long time. I can safely say my comic collection has improved based on the inclusion of this book. And the love and care Max puts into this work really comes through in the art direction, and tight, concise, human dialogue.

Overall a fantastic read. Thank you Max for the work.
