This is an updated edition of an earlier work. The additional information on the E39 (1997-2003) is very good, but it still a little thin compared to earlier models. They are also not covered very well in the last chapter on buying a used 5-er. The book is otherwise full of excellent information on the 5 series line. The author spends a great deal of print on the `Super' editions by aftermarket tuners which is great for those really looking for a collectable car. The book uses the King's English, but it isn't too distracting for Americans. The illustrations are mostly black and white, which could have been improved. I found two humorous typos - one place a word dropped an `a' and later another word has an extra one. I guess it slid during printing. Over all a very good book for the BMW 5-er enthusiast.

Informative book about the production span through the E39. Has a buyer's guide and a nice color photos section. Would have appreciated many more color photos, but this is not a pictorial. Would also like to have owner testimonials. Specific enough information to be valuable to a BMW 5 enthusiast, but too much info for a general enthusiast.
