5.0 out of 5 stars BMW Z series service manual
This book was EXACTLY what I needed to do routine maintenance and certain select modifications. BMW wanted almost $200 for an oil change - one change and this manual paid for itself! Well written and complete - I couldn't be more pleased.

3.0 out of 5 stars BMW Z3 (E36/7)(E36/8) Service Manual: 1996-2002
Well written and a useful guide in most work applications. It does have a downfall when it comes to certain areas, such as the SRS system and codes. Another area is that of bodywork and dash layout... if fact most of the electrical is left out, unless you can read the schematics supplied in the back. No wire harness/current flow layout to mention. Precautionarys are laid...

Overall, a good book to have for the garage/home mech as far as a general reference, but not recommended for a detailed overview of the cars layout or specs, in essence... NOT a true service manual. No specs. IE: Try and find a section relating to clutch pedal hight adjustment. There isn't one.
Repair is a gloss over and takes the assumption that it used by one that knows the car and work procedures already. In otherwords... you have done this before in one fashion or another.
Again, a good book for the garage and quick reference, although lacking in info.

When I needed to replace the brakes on my 2001 BMW Z3 I was distressed to find that the only manual available for the 2001 BMW Z3 was a $75.00+ Bentley Shop Manual. I ordered the manual [[ASIN:B000AP64PK BMW Z3 Service Manual: 1996-2002] and went it arrived I turned to the section on brakes. The pictures were great but the descriptions left more than a little to be desired. While you could see a picture of it, the manual did not tell you you needed a 7mm allen wrench to remove the brake calipers. To add insult to injury when I laid the book flat, the binding was so cheap that the page that I was looking at just came loose! Not the sort of quality you might wish for in a $75.00 book!

Other drivers can tell you more in the forums, than this book does.
Although it is well illustrated en written.

This is one of the best service manuals in my auto repair library, great text and lots of illustrations make this manual easy to use, even for the mechanically challenged. If you want to service and repair your Z3, this is the one to buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars An enthusiast's bible..., July 6, 2007

This review is from: BMW Z3 (E36/7)(E36/8) Service Manual: 1996-2002 (Paperback)
This is a large( 60mm thick! ) book, aimed at people who have more of an interest in their Z3 than just driving it with the roof down.
It covers so much about the Z3 in great detail; it is probably more suited to mechanically minded people.

All areas of dismantling, trouble-shooting and repair are covered from head gaskets to air bag removal, from stripping door cards to cleaning break lines etc.

The downside:
I'm driving a 2.0L, 6 cylinder model which was only available in Europe (i think?)for a about 18 months and isn't included in this American publication. However, all topics covered appear to be the same (except, of course for the fact that my car is right hand drive!!)

Conclusion:
If the owners manual just doesn't cut it with the amount of information you need, then this book will answer all your Z3 queries with ease.
I'm satisfied with my purchase.

Any one who owns a BMW Z3 should have this book on their shelf. Whether you do your own work or not, this book is a wealth of information. Just knowing how to change some items (bulbs, fuses, etc.) in various locations on the car, will save you the cost of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bentley BMW Z3 Service Manual, September 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased the Bentley Z3 Manual to accompany my recent acquisition of a 2001 M Roadster. This manual covers everything from basic maintainance to complete rebuilding of the engine, transmission, etc. With the assistance of this manual, I have completed replacing the filters and checking out the various operating systems on my car. Although I doubt I'll ever take on a major project like an engine overhaul, at least I'll be able to discuss any issues intelligently with my mechanic by having read this manual.
