Works with 2006 MINI Cooper S, August 28, 2011
This review is from: BMW Genuine Auxiliary Audio Input Cable Adapter for E39 5 Series (09/2002 and on), X5 (10/2002 and on), All X3
I can confirm a previous reviewer's note: this product, although made for BMW, works just fine with my wife's 2006 MINI Cooper S.
Installation was a snap. You don't have to remove the head unit to plug in the cable. Just fold down the knee panel in front of the driver's seat and look for an opening along the back of the radio. there is a fairly large space where you can stick your finger in and touch the empty square-shaped socket where the plug snaps in. Be aware, those models with navigation system will have this socket already occupied. In that case this cable won't work. Otherwise, just snap in the plug.
I personally needed this AUX cable so that I can plug in a bluetooth adapter for an iPhone. I tried a BlueTrip from Griffin. It worked just fine. BlueTrip has a microphone built into the power outlet plug. It's far away from my mouth so I was afraid it won't be able to pick up my voice well. On the contrary, I made several test calls and the people on the other side said they hear me perfectly. The voice in the car was also excellent, although I had to turn up volume to hear well. There was no acoustic feedback at all. In fact, it sounded far better than the factory bluetooth in my 1996 Infiniti M. In the Infiniti the voice always sounds like a poor quality boombox in an empty bathroom. The MINI with the AUX and the BlueTrip sounds way better.
By the way, the installation took no longer than 5 minutes, literally. I did not touch any screwdrivers. I hid the cable above the knee panel. I needed a male-male 2.5 mm adapter jack to connect the AUX cable's female end to the BlueTrip's female socket, but the BlueTrip comes with that adapter.

works on Mini's, July 18, 2011

Hey. Just to let you all know.. this auxiliary input kit is the exact same as the one for mini's.. except for the instruction paperwork. I saves $20 buying this here vs. mini mania.
if your thinking about getting a new head unit or this.. go with this. its not an easy swap out for an aftermarket head unit and if you have an amp./ steering wheel controls you'll be thanking me when your listening to pandora or your favorite playlist 40 min. after you start your install.
o make sure you have 1/8 in and 10mm drill bit. google instructions or youtube it and you can get all your stuff setup while you wait for your package. Which didn't take long at all for me.

Great product!, January 9, 2012

I bought and installed this product in my 06 MINI Cooper S with relative ease. Using a helpful hint from one of the other reviews, all I had to do was pull down the dash cover under the steering wheel, feel around for the plug on the radio, and click it in place. I ran the cable down the center dash with ease and installed the Aux. input plate in the cubby area. iPod plugs in easily and enjoyment commences. Saved me at least $20 over other Mini accessory stores online.
