I have been riding street motorcycles for many years and recently also started doing some trail riding on the dirt bike.
After watching the Long Way Round TV Series me and some of my friends became convinced to go on a motorcycle riding trip where we needed to go on unpaved roads to be rewarded with great nature views.
This training video fit the bill very well.
I sometimes cannot believe BMW was ok releasing this to everyone. Essentially it is an excerpt of and a window into what their off road training academy does.
You get a introduction to common challenges to off road riding, adjustments to make on your bike before you begin, techniques to focus on as you begin, and a set of drills to help bring your skill level up.
Highly recommended!

The basic tips from day one of the BMW off road course. I would say its worth the $2 rental. You got what, 10k or twice that in your bike so this is nothing. I've been riding for over 40 years and started in the dirt. Haven't done dirt for years and got an adventure bike, big and heavy. It's nice to have someone show you what skills to practice and drills to do to help you in the rough stuff. He explains things in a way that lets you understand easily what he's getting at and may even give you that aha moment when he explains why you've been doing something that seems to come natural to you for years. Recommend.

It manages to combine well a nicely put advertisement with several actual training exercises. Perfect to wet one's appetite for attending some real dual sport training, then go out to explore. It is also a good refresher for reminding all the basic skills needed to tackle just about any roads. Having attended Rawhyde adventure training it was great to watch and remember.

After watching the video, I can't say I would pay for the actual class. I can say that if you pay attention to the video, and go practice what they teach, you will have a better time off the beaten track with your big adventure bike than before.

Rent on Amazon.
Watch, and take a few notes.
Then go out and practice what they have preached.

See you on the dirt!

This is a well-produced introduction to adventure riding with a big enduro. I found it to be full of handy tips that were well worthy of review - things like how to turn around on a hill if you don't make it up on the first pass, and similar useful nuggets of information.

The video itself is fun to watch, with nice scenery, and of course a bunch of new GS bikes is always fun to see. The materials covered are very similar to what I was taught in a different dirt bike course that I've taken, and definitely work. There is a whole universe of things to learn to be a proficient off road rider (I'm still working on that....) and this video shows a nice selection of things to get you started.

Pretty thin. Shows a few exercises, but I think the most useful part for me was the "how to pick up your dumped bike" part. I pretty much knew the rest of it, as anyone who has been riding for 50 years would.

It was worth the two bucks I paid to rent it.

I rented this for 24 hours and watched it twice - excellent info for riders new to big bike dual sport rides. And no, you don't have to have a BMW motorcycle - all the techniques work great on my V-Strom. :-)

This DVD was well prepared and includes the necessary information to learn and hone skills necessary for successful off-road riding. I found myself going back to the DVD several times, after I tried different methods of riding, as explained in the DVD. Being an accomplished on-road rider, and fairly decent off-road, I am of the opinion that the instructions presented hit the nail on the head, which should help novice and accomplished riders collectively. Although 95% of the world's road are not paved, enjoying those experiences hinges on riding safely and minimizing injury or damage, so that more and more roads can be ridden. I strongly encourage anyone who wants to brush up on off-road techniques, or for the novice who wants to learn how to do it right.
