2.0 out of 5 stars Short and a rip-off of Zelda
First off, this game is way too short. Plus, there's not much replayability involved in it.

Also, it seems more like a Zelda game than a Bomberman game. Yeah, there's Bomberman action, but let's see what it has in common with the Zelda games:
-Various dungeons with puzzles in it, where you find items to help you continue, and also a boss in each.
-At the end...

The adventure mode of Bomberman is fun to play on a boring day by yourself. The game is pretty short, but with the Karabon creatures, (which help you finish your adventure) the game has many puzzles that will leave you trying to get all the Karabons. But where the game really shines is its multiplayer mode. You get to bomb other players while collecting items to improve your bombs and trying to dogde other bombs. The stages are carefully planned out and all have their different features, like warps and pipes that hide bombs. It's not hard to get friends to play if there's a game link cable and a few extra GBAs, because of the single-pak multiplayer option. As you can see, this game is very fun for people who like adventures, collecting, and puzzles or if you just like a good multiplayer game. This game has a little something for everyone!

I played the first bomberman back in 1989 on the NES. What an addicting little puzzle game. Race around, bomb blocks, get powerups, hit enemies, make sure to stay out of the plus shape your bomb explodes into! 12 years later, Bomberman tournament graces the GBA. Beautiful graphics, music that won't drive you up a wall immediately, and a quest mode that's just like Zelda (kill enemies to open doors, get special items to move blocks or warp or shield) minus the sword, but ooh the bombs! With 6 different upgrades, you won't run out of ways to slaughter your enemies. The Karabon creature system used in the quest mode is just a way of giving your powerups something else to do. They are very easy to 'train' I found.. Bomb everything you can (plants, rocks, etc) along your way of the quest and you'll find enough powerups for your Karabons that you can (thankfully in my opinion) ignore most of this poke-ish part of the game. The tournament mode is a lot of fun also, bringing back the joy of original Bomberman style competition, and adding a lot of replay value to the game after you've beaten the quest. If only Zelda had a mode like this -- that would stick you in a room with 3 other Links and some random powerups. =) Heavily addicting, sometimes frustrating, but always enjoyable!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bomberman Meets Pokemon, August 1, 2001

This review is from: BOMBERMAN TOURNAMENT - GBA (Video Game)
Usually Bomberman games are based on blowing up your enemy (It still is) But you can also choose from Quest mode which lets you collect Karabon (Think of pokemon that you dont have to catch) and Battle other trainers! Then theres Battle Mode where you use battle up to for other bombermans and try to win. But dont get me wrong winning can be fun with new things that lets you kick, throw, and even Punch the bombs! But watch up for the skull boxes they can make you slower, faster, enable use of bombs, and even make you lay bombs everywhere you go! But the cool thing is with one game catridge you and 3 other buddys can link up and battle each other!

The multiplayer feature rocks. Picture this: Up to four people can play with one game pack, you can play in eight different levels, along with revenge and a fishing mini-game. Now, that would be worth the price of the game, right? Well, there's more! There's a Bomberman RPG-type game too! And it's very long! It took me two hours to get out of the first forest! Trust me, you'll have a blast(get it?) going through this game. You can collect Karaboms to battle and help through different obstacles. There's puzzles to solve, missions to complete, bosses to battle. There's even more stuff to do, but you just have to pick it up for yourself! This is a must-have for any Bomberman fan. And even if you're not a fan, just try this game!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Game!!!!!!!!!, December 12, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: BOMBERMAN TOURNAMENT - GBA (Video Game)
Bomberman Tournament is an awesome game. When I first got the game for my birthday, I didn't know what to expect. But after I started playing it and got the hang of it, it became really, really fun. It is a lot like the original bomberman, only this one is an adventure game. Another thing is that your bombs can be upgraded. Also, there are these creatures called Karabons that can be trained and they can be used in battles. It might be hard for you at first, but keep at it and it (if your like me) will probably get really fun. It is a rather hard game (but not too hard) so it will keep you busy for a while. The only thing is that the time in between bosses is a little short, but otherwise this is a really, really, really great game!!! Anyone who liked the orginal bomberman will loooove this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Origional Party Dude is back and badder than ever!!, April 18, 2002
This review is from: BOMBERMAN TOURNAMENT - GBA (Video Game)
Some may remember Bomberman back as a one player puzzle game. Than later he grew into a party game with an incredible multiplayer funfactor. From there he grew and blossomed until his last great game on the Sega Saturn under the name of Saturn Bomberman, where you had a total of ten players on one screen try and blow the hell out of eachother. Then there were a few sad attempts on PSX and N64. Now he is back.

Bomberman Tournament reverts back to the over the top screen play for multiplayer as in the days of yore. 4 players competing consecutivly in the multiplayer aspect. There are 8 arenas to compete in each with a different stipulation. Whether it's pipes, landmines, conveyer belt and what not.

Now that is not the only aspect. There is also and incredible good, and fun story mode. A disturbance somewhere in the solar system has provoked Bomberman's buddy Max to investigate, a few weeks later when he doesn't respond to calls the Doc. sends in you, Bomberman to find out what the problem is and fix it. You land on a planet and in a Zelda like style try to save the planet from the Evil Bombers once again. Along the way you gather little critters on the planet which provide you with unique powerups. These include swimming, opening doors, remote bombs, or teleportation. You can also use these critters in a fun mini game, which is actually need to compete in at the end of the game.

Overall Bomberman has come a long way from the little demolition robot who wanted to be human. He has had many adventures and many cherished memories for gamers world wide. He is one of the few gaming icons that we will never forget. God bless you little Bomberman.

4.0 out of 5 stars What a Bomb~, August 28, 2001

This review is from: BOMBERMAN TOURNAMENT - GBA (Video Game)
I recently purchased Bomberman Tournament. I found the Quest game mode quite interesting. It has some mini adventure puzzles that you have to solve before advancing to the next area. You have to acquire these Karabons (almost like Pokemons). They all have certain skills or abilities to help you in different ways. You can also battle your Karabons for money. Although you cannot battle one on one with another GBA and the battle are quite limited. Nevertheless the adventure and quest to solve the plot is enough to keep you going. The graphic of the cartoon at the start up is quite good. There is also another cartoon concluding the end of the game. Yet if you want to see the ending cartoon again, you'd have to beat the last level and boss to get to it. Besides the very ending, you can save almost anywhere in the quest game mode...and I suggest that you do save whenever you can, especially after completing a difficult section or acquiring hard to find items. Then there's Battle mode. Simply, you can battle up to 4 players with one cartriage and 4 GBA. Alone you can battle the computer. Anyone that played the original bomberman would know this. The game has revenge and super-revenge, which allows you to return to play if you kill another player. The winner of the game gets to fish which allows them to acquire items for the next game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bomberman is back to his old roots in this great new game!, August 19, 2001

Bomberman Tournament stands out as one of the best Gameboy Advance games yet. The story begins as Bomberman Max (one of bomberman's friends) goes to check out a planet that needs help. Meteors have crashed on the planet and Max checks out a weird fortress there but sadly Max hasn't come back and Bomberman is sent out to find Max. And so you begin the game with our explosive hero Bomberman. The quest mode is a big adventure that includes puzzles, battles, and exploring new lands. Also you get to collect these pokemon type creatures called Kabarons. These Kabarons can be found throughout towns and dungeons and you can battle your kabarons in local towns too. No need to capture them like in pokemon games because they are all willing to be your friend. The kabarons are mainly there to help bomberman and be his sidekicks instead of battling and trying to collect more so people who don't like pokemon can enjoy this. Bomberman also collects items and has to explore new levels and do favors for townspeople and kabaron. The quest mode is sure to keep your busy until you find Bomberman Max and save Bomberman's world. But who says the fun stops there? The battle mode which is one of the best multiplayer modes for the Gameboy Advance is loads of fun. Link up four GBAs and have yourself a battle with four other Bombers and see who is the last standing bomber. There are different levels to battle on too so you'll never get bored. If your bored and want a good Gameboy Advance Adventure,Puzzle, and Action game your sure to love this!

This is an exeptional game for the equally admirable GBA system. Two different games in one cart is nice, but it's rare when both of them are able to entertain you for over ten minutes,as both battle and quest mode can in Bomberman. Quest mode is sort of like Pokemon in the respect that you collect and battle monsters. Personally, i kinda like games where you blow things up(hopefully that didn't make me sound like too much of an ignoramus), and by collecting different fusible items you can have different types of bombs made for you for different purposes. The Bosses, found in five Bases, are nicely challenging. Battle Mode lets you link up with up to three friends and duke it out over several landscapes(standard, Moon Warp, etc.)Using bombs to blow up panels in order to expose useful items and, of course, blow each other up. The fishing mini game is cute as well.
